DC Entertainment is finally making some moves to bring their superheroes to life. Green Lantern will be making his big screen debut this June, with The Flash and Wonder Woman (albeit in a television series only) on the way. A film about Oliver Queen/Green Arrow was in the works titled Super Max with David Goyer penning a script in 2008, but nothing has been heard about the film in a long time. Well, The Hollywood Reporter was able to interview comic book author Brad Meltzer about adapting a superhero film.

“I would do a superhero movie in a heartbeat. Everyone is going to say Batman. Everyone is going to say the big ones. Anyone who reads Identity Crisis sees I love them all. You give me the smallest character those characters have lived with me since I was eight years old. I would do Green Arrow in a heartbeat”, he said. It doesn’t tell us much of anything, and it’s uncertain if a film would ever get off the ground. Green Arrow isn’t one of DC’s well-known properties like Batman or Superman, and that’s one reason the studio probably won’t be racing to get a film out soon. However, with the right actor and director, a film could work. Although, many will likely be asking for Justin Hartley, who portrays the character on CW’s Smallville, for the role.

“Joan Parker (the gorgeous Georgia Emerald) is a British librarian who stumbles by accident on an ancient book that contains the forbidden secrets of the Chinese Kama Sutra. She digs deeps into the pages of the mysterious book and starts having wild fantasies about her own sexuality, which has always been very tame. Nevertheless, she does not accept the advances of her fellow Chinese librarian. Unaware that every night she’s being watched from the windows of an ancient haunted house, she finds herself little by little caught in the clutches of the Kama Sutra cult she’s been reading about.”

I have never seen this one, so I might have to pick it up on January 11, 2011.

“Somewhere deep in the jungle a chemical corporation dumps tons of toxic waste in a still active volcano. Two environmentalists try to expose these illegal ways of getting rid of hugely dangerous waste, but they get caught by the vigilantes working for the company. One of them, the super-hot Maria Giulia Cavalli, manages to escape and she is saved by a snake farmer who lives alone in the jungle. Together they try to bring down the company, but it’s too late. Years of chemical poisoning have spawned a deadly monster that is set out to exact revenge on the humans that have unknowingly brought him to life.”

We already know the principal cast of Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Chris Evans (Captain America), Scarlet Johansson (Black Widow), and Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), but it’s now time to fill in the rest of roles. Radar Online has that Demi Lovato (Camp Rock, Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam) is up for role in the film. Although it’s uncertain which role at this time.

We could probably assume this to be a minor role in the film, possibly as Janet van Dyne AKA Wasp. It was revealed at Comic Con (here) that Ant-man wouldn’t be featured in the film, and many assumed the same for Wasp. However, nothing was said about their alter-egos, and seeing as how Marvel has been setting up their films, we can likely assume Wasp would be a possibility. Although, this is merely speculation and Lovato could be up for the role of a villainess.

Other than the principal cast, nothing is known about the film. Given the anticipation for The Avengers, it’s likely to stay secret for sometime. With filming set to begin next year, we should get news on the cast soon.

Update:Lovato’s represenatives have dismissed her involvement in the film via The Playlist.

However, many were hoping with The Dark Knight Rises that Nolan would film the entire movie in IMAX, but that has unfortunately been dismissed (here). Although, we can expect to see more scenes this time around.

In an interview with Collider, executive vice-president of IMAX David Keighley revealed that Nolan will be shooting more scenes for his final Batman film (here). “There were be more IMAX in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES than was in THE DARK KNIGHT,” he said. It’s uncertain how much will be shot, but a new, smaller camera is being developed that would allow Nolan to shoot more of the film. Keighley also mentions the film could be released along with The Dark Knight in select IMAX theaters. However, that’s also uncertain at this point.

But then, the delays started to happen (here, here, and here).

Luke Lieberman, the writer of the series, gave an interview to comicbookresources on what’s going on with Red Sonja, plus a possible spin-off with Thulsa Doom:

“It sounds like they are lining up a new director for ‘Sonja.’ I think ‘Conan’ is hitting theaters soon, and if that proves itself in the market, it will bode well for both ‘Sonja’ and ‘Thulsa.’ On ‘Thulsa,’ we just finished the script and are looking for financing partners. Hollywood is always ‘hurry up and wait.’ Using ‘Conan’ as an example, this new incarnation took more than 10 years to hit screens. Warners had it, put it through countless rewrites and directors, Warners lost it, now Lionsgate is finally releasing it.”

Djimon Hounsou stated he owns the film rights to Thulsa Doom and a script. Thulsa Doom was memorably played by James Earle Jones in the Arnold classic.
