Reaction towards Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel has been divided ever since Snyder was named directer, and many are anxious to get their first look at the film. But with the film still over a year away, it will be sometime before we see any footage at all. However, a poster for the film has apparently leaked (via Movieweb).

This is by no means an official poster, but it’s at least real that’s for sure.

In this distant shot of what looks like Michael Shannon on set of director Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, could we see the comic book outfit of General Zod, instead of the all black suit as worn by Terence Stamp in Superman II? This question is raised since Shannon is seen in a mo-cap outfit. Take a look (via /Film):

The only question is if that’s a stunt double, but that odd shaped head really can only be Shannon. Warner Bros. has done a decent, if not pioneering job, with mo-cap suits, just look at Hal Jordan’s in Green Lantern, and if it’s the popular Zod outfit below, then maybe this could be pretty damn cool.

Thoughts?

Filming is about ready to roll on director Zack Snyder (Watchmen, 300) and producer Christopher Nolan on Superman: The Man of Steel. We’ve heard guesses on the story, but all we know is that the production is in Plano, ILL right now building these sets.

While they look incomplete, they possibly could be purposely built that way for green-screens. Could something epic happen in Smallville, which is surely what Plano, ILL is standing in for?

Whatcha think? The film is scheduled for a December 2012 release.

Quite frankly, Sucker Punch isn’t that good. At times, we feel like Alex from A Clockwork Orange when he was getting rehabilitated and the doctors kept his eyes open by mechanical force so that he could be subjected to a slew of images for endless minutes or hours. Alex comes out a little dazed, a little bland, but is somewhat chipper, until he goes back to his old ways. We’re Alex. No matter what Zack Snyder throws at us, it’s all in a vacuum and none of it really registers. Who would have thought a film with school-girl outfit wearing chicks who battle robotic samurais, Nazi zombies, and dragons, would be such a digital lobotomy?

Personally, I’m beyond the whole argument of what is entertainment. Sucker Punch is entertaining, it’s just not memorable or exciting. To each their own, because it’s kind of crazy how Zack Snyder (Watchmen) inserted a couple cans of Rockstar Energy and the caffeine, ginseng, and taurine infused the CG to create some of the wackiest effects-laden spectacle in quite some time. If 300 was his attempt at “war porn”, then Sucker Punch is an exercise in making CG some sort of fetishistic porn sub-category. Just watch existing the theater, as some 15-year old World of Warcraft junkies might have messed themselves a few times during this.

So why is Sucker Punch a hollow experience? It boils down to story – you know, that old beast. As Snyder co-wrote the screenplay, he tries to “sucker punch” us in a slight of hand, but once the curtain is removed, instead of being sucker punched into a “wow”, we really were just M. Night Shyamalan’d. While there’s a tease of a couple of layers that the story could have went or followed or explored, we’re really just witnesses to one heck of a music video. Jena Malone and Emily Browning are great. The music is inspired and unique. The CG is top-notch. Sucker Punch is completely original (as original as mainstream cinema can get), yet its quaint to see brainless movie-making at its pinnacle.

All Sucker Punch ever was in the end, was a clever magician who marketed himself as something special, yet when he reached into his hat to grab the white rabbit, the rabbit wasn’t there.

The Blu-ray:

Audio/Video: It should come to no surprise that Warner Bros. HD presentation is absolutely topnotch. It is, in every regard. The film lends itself to the finest details in the extra clear video; bold colors are breath-taking. The DTS track is a room destroyer. Loud, deep bass, an aggressive surround mix, you know the things that irritate your neighbors. Superb all around.

We get two-discs; one has the theatrical cut, for which my above review was for, and the other has the newly R-rated extended cut, which doesn’t really help the film either. The footage is just deleted bits that the MPAA felt gave the film a R-rating, which WB ordered to be cut for a more accessible PG-13 cut. Really, this much-touted version is a victim of being over-hyped. Imagine that.

Maximum Movie Mode: Just like the Watchmen Blu-ray, Snyder is here detailing every little facet of the film’s production along side the extended cut. It’s everything you ever wanted to know about the film, and then some. To say this is better than the movie would be cliched, but it is. It’s a pretty astonishing extra.

Sucker Punch: Animated Shorts: These are quick, motion comics that prelude the dream sequences.

Behind the Soundtrack: A quick look at the score and music offerings that Tyler Bates composed for the film, EPK-style.

The Film: Rating: 2.5 out of 5 stars

The Blu-ray: Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

One of the more talked about aspects of the film, was this longer cut Snyder had to trim for a more appropriate 2 hour running time, but coming June 28th to Blu-ray will be a “Director’s Cut” that Snyder seemed high on. Whether it’ll help the film out or not, will remain to be seen (it doesn’t), but WB has released one of the extended bits online.

Remember, this is taking out of context.

Was that cool enough to take a second plunge back into Snyder’s imaginary world?

Said role has not been revealed as yet, but since it is being called a ‘major’ one you can take your pick. This comes off from the news of Julia Ormond’s casting (as the Man of Steel’s Kryptionian mother), they will join Russell Crowe, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Michael Shannon with Henry Cavill as Superman and Amy Adams as Lois Lane.

It was recently announced that Michael Shannon would be taking on the Man of Steel (Henry Cavill) in Zack Snyder’s reboot as General Zod (here). However, we’ve been hearing the film is looking for a female to portray a villain as well (here), and it seems that character may have just been revealed. Latino Review was told by a “reliable source” that Faora would be featured in the film as Zod’s “right hand b*tch.” There’s word on how truthful this is, but it would make a lot of sense. The character Ursa in Superman II was based upon Faora, both of which are accomplices of General Zod in the comics.

The description of her character, according to the source, also suggests that we’ll Zod and Faora have the same fate as shown in Richard Donner’s film. “Faora Hu-Ul was a serial killer born on the planet Krypton. A self-professed “man-hater”, she targeted only male Kryptonians and ran a concentration camp where she kept other Kryptonians as slaves. Faora Hu-Ul claimed over twenty-three lives before she was arrested. Faora was sentenced to over three-hundred years of incarceration inside the Phantom Zone – the longest sentence ever handed to a female prisoner, and the second-longest sentence over all. As Faora was trapped inside the Phantom Zone, she, along with many others, survived the destruction of Krypton,” according to the source. More evidence to this is the film will also be showing another version of Superman’s home planet of Krypton, and that’s supported by earlier reports of the film portraying Superman’s origins once again (here).

Are we basically in for a remake of Superman II?

If there’s one thing many are tired of seeing in the superhero genre, then it’s the character’s origins. And as many may have guess already, Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel is now officially going to be covering Superman’s origin. “I read the script under lock and key… I was locked in a room with the script and was only allowed three hours with it. I nailed it into my memory. I’m really excited. I’m really not allowed to talk much about it, I think, but it does cover the entire range of years, from infancy on,” Diane Lane (Martha Kent) told E! Online.

Showing a superhero’s origin isn’t necessarily a bad thing, and Nolan did a masterful job at showing how Bruce Wayne became Batman in Batman Begins. However, Richard Donner already did an amazing and accurate way of showing Superman’s origin, and there’s really nothing much you can add to that. Then again, Batman Begins did a great job at providing an identity crisis for Bruce Wayne, and that same team (David Goyer and Christopher Nolan) have provided the basic story outline for Snyder’s reboot. And word is the film will be based upon the Secret Origin storyline (here), which was a well-received telling of Superman’s origins. Perhaps a retelling may not be such a bad thing after all.

The rumor about Harris auditioning for the role of Lex Luthor has apparently been confirmed (here), but what about Lindsay Lohan? Rumor is now getting around that role could be for Luthor’s sidekick Miss Teschmacher. Where did this rumor come from? None other than Howard Stern (via Eltorlatino’s Twitter).

This is still a rumor, and it would be smart to wait from either Zack Snyder or Warner Bros. regarding anything about this film. Having said that, we have heard word the film was to cast two females in the film: the love interest and a villain (here). Amy Adams was recently announced as Lois Lane (here), and that leaves only the villainess left. It was rumored to be Ursa, an accomplice of General Zod, but those rumors have turned to other characters (here). Whether or not Lohan has auditioned for the role remains unknown, but if she does go to jail due to her recent grand-theft charge, then we won’t be seeing her in the film. The character appeared in Richard Donner’s Superman: The Movie and in Superman II played by Valerie Perrine. Then in Superman Returns by Parker Posey. Both incarnations were used as comic relief, but we can hopefully see something different this time around. If this rumor is true.

Many were hoping to not see Lex Luthor in Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot, but I think Luthor needs to be in the film. However, not as the primary villain. As for those rumors about Lindsay Lohan, that’s still yet to be confirmed or denied.
