The series, created by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, is set in a contemporary world very much similar to the real one, with one notable exception: a number of people have some form of superpower. The series follows a superpowered CIA squad, known informally as “The Boys”, whose job it is to keep watch on superheroes and, if necessary, intimidate or kill them.

Here’s a bit of an excerpt from an interview where Samuel Bayer expresses his interest in having McKay take the reigns on the latest comic book film.:

“It’s so funny, I would die to do that comic book. From what I’ve heard from the producers on the movie is that Adam McKay is doing it. He did Anchorman, I guess. The studio is really hot on him and…” After Bayer paused for a second, he did drop the fact that if Nightmare performs well, maybe he could be the one to helm this fantastic series, “Let’s have the movie come out this weekend and do really well. Then we’ll see how my stock is in Hollywood.”

It looks like McKay isn’t the only one eyeing the property, and it would make a little bit of sense for them to hand the piece over to Bayer especially if the horror remake A Nightmare on Elm Street does great this upcoming weekend. Then again, we can’t exactly peer into the producer’s brains and see who they really want to take this to the big screen.

This espionage thriller is not a typical run-of-the-mill story since it’s source material stems from a three issue comic book series that started with Wildstorm, a sub division of DC Comics. The story follows a former black-ops CIA agent who lives a quiet life in retirement until the day a high-tech assassin shows up intent on killing him (Variety).

Already on board the project is actors Bruce Willis and Morgan Freeman. The script was written up by Erich and Jon Hoeber and is being directed by Robert Schwentke. The director’s most previous work includes the pilot to the Fox show “Lie to Me” and the feature “The Time Traveler’s Wife”. The newest film Mirren is appearing in, “The Last Station”, just made an appearance at this year’s AFI Film Festival.
