It’s time to fight off the undead for the fourth time as the video game turned feature film franchise Resident Evil: Afterlife bursts back out on the scene with three new photos. Now we’ll finally get a better look at Claire (Ali Larter) and Chris Redfield (Wentworth Miller) along with the typical gun-welding shot of Alice (Milla Jovovich), who for the billionth time does not exist in the video game version of this universe.

In a world ravaged by a virus infection, turning its victims into the Undead, Alice (Jovovich), continues on her journey to find survivors and lead them to safety. Her deadly battle with the Umbrella Corporation reaches new heights, but Alice gets some unexpected help from an old friend. A new lead that promises a safe haven from the Undead takes them to Los Angeles, but when they arrive the city is overrun by thousands of Undead – and Alice and her comrades are about to step into a deadly trap.

The Paul W.S. Anderson directed film, Resident Evil: Afterlife, comes out in theaters and in 3D on September 10th from Screen Gems. Unique Features is extending their reach hoping to go and grab the property in order to make it into a live action film, says Deadline.

Heavy Rain‘s story is a dramatic thriller modeled after film noir, centred around four protagonists involved with the mystery of the Origami Killer, a serial killer who uses extended periods of rainfall to drown his victims. Ethan Mars is a father who is trying to save his son from being the next victim, while investigative journalist Madison Paige, FBI profiler Norman Jayden, and private detective Scott Shelby are each trying to track down clues to the Origami Killer’s identity.

Once the deal has been set, we’ll be able to find out more on who else will be on board for this feature.

“We’re going to make a movie when the time is right,” he said. “We own the IP. If we want to make a movie, the scale of all the other stuff that we do changes dramatically. We make tens and tens of millions of dollars on ancillary stuff, toys, apparel, music and publishing. If we do a movie all of that will grow exponentially. We have some numbers if we do a movie, but it changes everything. It also changes our target and age demographic.”

A Halo film came close when District 9 director Neil Blomkamp was attached temporarily, but the project has been dead ever since. I think Halo could be the film that turns the video game adaptations around, creating something the fans will be pleased with while staying true to the source material.

That’s what the folks at New Line Cinema are doing right now, throwing the video game adapted feature Gears of War into the bowels of development hell. At least that’s how it appears to be, since the project has been back and forth between going full steam ahead and stopping itself in it’s tracks. Then again, with problems like budget and story issues, it’s no real surprise that this project is having a hard time getting out of limbo.

Director Len Wiseman is now turning his attention to “Nocturne,” an apocalyptic thriller based on an idea from “Red Dawn” writers Andre Fabrizio and Jeremy Passmore, says the LA Times. There is no good track record when it comes to video game adapted films, unless you want to bring up the ongoing but critically panned Resident Evil series.

The company is already tinkering greatly with the story, making it smaller in scale in order to make a more affordable budget for their liking. Because of that, the epic story of troops from the Delta Squad as they fight to save the human inhabitants of the fictional planet Sera from a relentless subterranean enemy known as the Locust Horde. In the video game, the player assumes the role of Marcus Fenix, a former prisoner and war-hardened soldier. Sounds pretty cool, right? Well, if you’ve played the video game, you know how thick in action the sucker is. Imagine that being cut down quite a bit. Then again, I hope your imagination is not the same as mine, because when I think of the smaller version I think of Egoraptor’s Gears of Awesome.

A big screen adaptation of Spy Hunter by Midway games has been planned for years, but hasn’t gone anywhere. Warner Bros. was able to gain the rights to Spy Hunter and other Midway titles in a bankruptcy court last year, and it seems is moving forward with the film.

According to a post on Variety, Dan Lin and Roy Lee will be producing with Chad St. John penning the screenplay:

“The studio is developing a feature version of the vidgame with Dan Lin (“Sherlock Holmes”) and Roy Lee of Vertigo producing. The story follows a highly trained spy hunter whose job it is to eliminate rogue spies when they become liabilities to their governments.”

“Chad St. John has been tapped to pen the screenplay. His scripting credits for Warner Bros. include “Days Before,” “Sgt. Rock” and “Motor City.” Doug Davison is exec producing and Stephen Gilchrist is co-producer. Jon Berg is overseeing for Warners.”

I’ve never played the game, but from what I’ve seen it looked like it would be a very cool action film. The problem with this, as with most video games adaptations, is that I don’t remember a whole lot of dialogue in the game to carry a film. Originally it was Dwayne Johnson who was going to star in the film, but there’s no word on if he still is.

What are your thoughts?

Jamie Foxx is signing up to be one of the leads in the adaptation of the third person shooter crime/thriller game Kane & Lynch: Dead Men from IO Interactive. Foxx is taking on the role of Lynch from the Simon Crane directed feature, written by Kyle Ward.

The story centers on Adam “Kane” Marcus, a mercenary who makes an unlikely alliance with the schizophrenic killer named James Lynch. The duo is forced on a mission to retrieve a stolen microchip (CS!). Despite previous reports, Bruce Willis is not attached to co-star in the picture due to reasons unknown.

Crane is best known for his stunt coordinating work in dozens of features, including Salt and Hancock, but Kane & Lynch will serve as his directorial debut. Producing the picture is Stephen J. Eads, Daniel Alter and Adrian Askarieh with a to-be-announce 2011 release date from Lionsgate.

Now were finally getting a look at what it’s all about as the latest video game adaptation as the teaser trailer finally sees the light of day.

Directed by Dwight H. Little, the story is about a young man who seeks revenge of his mothers death. He finds his grand-father, Heihachi Mishima (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa), and pleads to be trained when the Mishima leader announces a “King of Iron Fist” tournament. He finds out that his mother’s killer will be participating in the tournament, so then he becomes determined to fight against the world’s top competitors to gain vengeance.

Tekken includes the talents of Luke Goss, Cung Le, Gary Daniels and many others. The film is under Namco, GAGA and Crystal Sky Pictures with no word yet of it’s release. Check out the teaser trailer below, thanks to Gordon and the Whale for scooping it up.:

The never ending battle to throw Solid Snake onto the big screen is no more. Producer Mike De Luca spilled the beans on the fate of the latest video game adaptation and if it would ever see the light of day past it’s development stages. Here’s more on what he had to say in an interview he had with Collider.:

“I don’t think it’s going to move forward because I got the sense that there may not be enough of a coordinated will at this point on the side of certain parties to see a movie get made.”

“[T]he video game companies are very protective of their property and there are certain things a studio requires freedom-wise to market and distribute a movie effectively in a global marketplace and sometimes getting those two things to match up is really hard. And in the case of Metal Gear Solid, the agendas just….not because the parties weren’t amicable, it was just kind of impossible to get the agendas to match up.”

Hideo Kojima was better known for wanting to take a bigger role in the project, making such bold statements earlier on about not having particular directors such as Uwe Boll taking the reigns of the popular property. With the series’ rich story lines of espionage and drama mixed in with heavy duty action, it appeared as quite a feat in itself in order to at least get the feature off the ground.

Now that it’s buried, do you believe that’ll be the case for good? Or do you believe that Sony will try to find a way sometime soon, in order to capitalize on the series, by bringing this project back from the dead?

Paul W.S. Anderson’s fourth installment of the video game adapted series is getting two weeks pushed forward in it’s release month of September for this year. The reasoning behind this is MGM’s own collision with itself on the big screen. If Resident Evil: Afterlife were to be released on September 24th of this year, it would have coincided with the release of Cabin in the Woods, another MGM horror property.

Another reason why Resident Evil: Afterlife is going to be shown on September 10th as well is due to the 3D that’s coming into play with the latest feature. If the two were to be released on the same weekend, that would be forcing them to split digital 3D screens, reports ShockTillYouDrop. Milla Jovovich comes back in the fourth film reprising her role as Alice along with talent such as Ali Larter, Wentworth Miller and others.

Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer are both highly likely candidates for the job. The two writers normally collaborate on whatever big screen project they have which includes Sahara and the remake of Conan. Here’s more of the story from Latino Review below.:

Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune follows fortune hunter Nathan Drake, who is a descendant of explorer Sir Francis Drake. Believing he has learned the whereabouts of El Dorado, the fabled South American golden city, from a cursed golden statue, he embarks on a journey to find it. The search becomes competitive and dangerous when a rival hunter joins the fray and mutated creatures begin attacking those hoping to learn the treasure’s true secrets.

The project is obviously under Sony since the video game itself is only playable on Playstation 3 game consoles. The film has a to be announced 2011 projected release date.
