The film has gone through several production delayes ever since Darren Aronofsky left the project some time ago. However, Twentieth Century Fox has offically set the film to be released on July 26th, 2012. Many were curious as to why a follow up to X-men Origins: Wolverine was being made after the numerous negative reaction, but luckily, the only competition this film faces is the Dirty Dancing remake.

The Wolverine will see Hugh Jackman as Logan/Wolverine “beginning a forbidden romance with a Japanese woman whose hand in marriage is, unfortunately, promised to another man. Since Logan won’t take “no” for an answer, it puts him into battle with her father and her samurai-sword-wielding brothers and Silver Samurai.”.

An executive at Fox confirmed the film was still being developed, but there’s been no word of any movement. Well, Varitey is now reporting the studio has named Josh Trank as their frontrunner to helm the film. Trank has already met with the studio about the job, but Fox is waiting to see how Chronicle performs at the box-office before making a deal. But you shouldn’t worry as Chronicle cost very little to make, and probably won’t suffer from lack of marketing.

That person now seems to be Jesus Orellana, who has created his own short film titled Rosa that hit the web early-November (you can watch it here). That short film has gained the attention of Twentieth Century Fox, who according to The Hollywoo Reporter are in final negotiations to buy the film rights to bring it to the big screen. The intention is to have Orellana direct the feature film version.

Rosa is described as “an epic sci-fi short film that takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where all natural life has disappeared. From the destruction awakes Rosa, a cyborg deployed from the Kernel project, mankind’s last attempt to restore the earth’s ecosystem. Rosa will soon learn that she is not the only entity that has awakened and must fight for her survival.” Orellana was able to make the film on his home computer with a little to no budget. He’ll likely have a much bigger budget this time around, and it would be interesting to see what he can do with it.

While Fox is having trouble getting The Wolverine off the ground, they’re still moving forward with a sequel to their more successful X-Men film, X-Men: First Class. Fox has already hired Simon Kinberg to pen the script for the sequel, and Coming Soon has learned the studio is trying to get Matthew Vaughn to direct the sequel. However, Twentieth Century Fox Chairman and CEO of Filmed Entertainment Tom Rothman mentioned they’re more interested in getting the script for the film right first.

That’s probably the most important thing to think about, especially since the past few X-Men films have had rushed scripts. While X-Men: First Class was one of my favorite films this Summer, and probably my favorite X-Men film, you could really feel the script was rushed in many areas. Kinbergy, who wrote X-Men: The Last Stand, will be penning this script, and that somewhat of a bad sign for the film already. It would also be surprsing if Vaughn returned after he was put under soo much pressure the first time, and it wouldn’t seem likely that he would put himself through that again.

Sources are now telling Vulture that Director Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin are putting the final touches on the script, and is expected to hand them in to Fox in December. The films are planned to be shot back-to-back with both films featuring a single storyline.

The biggest question right now is whether or not Will Smith will reprise his role. Emmerich has never been one to make sequels to his own films, but Will Smith has been the one holding up development of these films, according to Vulture’s source. We all know what occured with Men In Black 3D recently, and Smith is the one getting the biggest paycheck out of that film. Smith is demanding to have another pay increase for these films, but Fox is willing to move forward with or without Smith.

The film will see Bruce Willis once again reprise his role as John McClane, but will introduce his son this time around. Variety is now reporting that Ben Foster, Paul Dano, Aaron Paul and Milo Ventimiglia will be testing for the role. Paul Walker is the studio’s candidate for the role, but there’s no word if he’ll be testing.

This is an important role as whoever gets it will be carrying the franchise after this film. What will be interesting is to see who can bring the same game to this franchise after Willis is done.

Twentieth Century Fox is filling up their schedule. We just heard that A Good Day To Die Hard will be released on Valentine’s Day in 2013, and now Coming Soon has more films set to be released. Taken 2 is set to be released on October 5th, 2012. The first film was a big hit with audiences and critics and saw Liam Neeson kicking some ass as he rescued his daughter from some kidnappers. The sequel will see “the father of one of the kidnappers swears revenge, and takes Bryan and his wife hostage during their family vacation in Istanbul, Bryan enlists Kim to help them escape, and uses the same advanced level of special forces tactics to get his family to safety and systematically take out the kidnappers one by one.”

Meanwhile, the long-awaited sequel to Percy Jackson and The Olympians has been set to be released on March 27th, 2013. The first film had a rather modest box-office performance, but fans’ call for a sequel seemed to have been heard. The Sea of Monsters will see “Percy Jackson, the son of Poseidon, continues his epic journey to fulfill his destiny, as he teams with his demigod friends to retrieve the Golden Fleece, which has the power to save their home and training ground, Camp Half-Blood.”

And last, but not least, Fox has moved up Walking With Dinosaurs 3D from its late-December 2013 release to October 11th, 2013. No reason was given for the change, but it likely has something to do with The Hobbit Part 2 coming out around that same time.

The perfect film to take your loved one to on for Valentine’s Day I suppose. Casting for the film is also underway for the son of John McClane, but no word on who’s auditioning for that role.
