Production on Barry Sonnenfeld’s Men In Black 3D is scheduled to begin production today in New York, but not for long. According to the LA Times, production on the film is also scheduled to shoot through the week of Christmas, but be delayed until mid-February next year. No reason is being given to the delay, but unknown sources claim that Jeff Nathanson (Catch Me If You Can, Rush Hour 2) is rewriting parts of the script, specifically the time-travel element.

The plot see Agent J (Will Smith) traveling back in time to save Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones in present day, Josh Brolin in the past) from Yaz (Jermaine Clement). The scenes being shot this week will feature those set during the present day, and will pick back up with the scenes set in the past in February. Featuring time-travel in a film’s plot tends to create plot holes, and is rather tricky to get right. The delay isn’t likely to affect the film’s scheduled release in May of 2012.

It has been a while since any big news on Men In Black 3-D has been heard, but here’s what we know so far. Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are back. Josh Brolin will portray a younger Agent K. and Jermaine Clement will be the villain, who will be aiming to destroy the world. Now, the folks at Joblo got their hands on some new details for the film.

The villain that Clement will portray will be a “nightmare biker who looks like Dennis Hopper and Satan”, named Yaz. The character isn’t meant to be funny, and is described as “oozing badassery and violence”.Brolin will portray a twenty-six year old Agent K, but will probably use CG to make him look younger. The film will include time travel, but the Joblo writer states “there’s no real need for it to make perfect sense since the tone of the series is so goofy.”

Jimi Hendrix, Castro, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Andy Warhol will be revealed as aliens. The film will also involve the use of an iPhone as a means of time-travel. Etan Cohen wrote the script, with David Koepp re-writing. Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald will serve as producers, with Steven Spielberg as executive producer. The film will see Barry Sonnenfeld return as director, and will be presented in 3-D. Shooting is tentatively set for this fall.

Men In Black 3-D will open on May 25, 2012.

Here’s a bit more information on who exactly this character is for you all from the Marvel Comics Database.:

Abraham Erskine was a scientist from the 1940s who first developed the Super-Soldier Serum, as well as the Vita-Rays designed to create an army of enhanced human beings whose physical defects and limitations would be eliminated for the USA World War II efforts.

Long story short, he’s our scientist that makes Steve Rogers, played by Chris Evans, into our overly patriotic Captain America. He’s the latest addition to a cast that includes Evans, Hayley Atwell, Hugo Weaving, Samuel L. Jackson, Tommy Lee Jones and Sebastian Stan. Joe Johnston is directing the Paramount Pictures film from the script written by Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus. Captain America: The First Avenger flies into theaters on July 22nd, 2011.

You can see Tucci share the big screen with Emma Stone in the Will Gluck comedy Easy A, set for release on September 17th.

In the film Clements will play the role of a villain in the third installment who is known as “charming but creepy”, says Heat Vision Blog. Then again, the plot in general has yet to be revealed, other than the fact that a majority of the film is taking place during 1969.

Barry Sonnenfeld is directing once more with Will Smith back on board reprising his role as Jay and Josh Brolin attached to play a younger version of Kay (Tommy Lee Jones). There’s no word on when principal photography will start, but since Columbia Pictures is settling the release date for this picture to be within 2012, don’t expect for them to start filming anytime soon.

Jemaine Clement will be doing the voice of Tim in the voice star-studded animated film Despicable Me, releasing in theaters on July 9th.

They originally had the release date set for Memorial Day of 2011, but instead it’s now on May 25th, 2012. At least they have a bit more time to go and put together the neat-o visual effects that you know this comic book adapted feature will have.

Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith are reprising their roles once more, but along with that there’s also rumor that Josh Brolin is being eyed by Columbia to play a younger version of Jones’ Agent K, says Collider. Set to direct the picture is Barry Sonnenfeld from the script written by Etan Cohen. Read on to see what the head of Sony’s marketing says on the interesting new announcement.:

Commenting on the announcement, Jeff Blake, Chairman of Sony Pictures Worldwide Marketing and Distribution said, “Sony’s summer of 2012 will get off to a red hot start with an incredible new 3D adventure for the Men in Black. We couldn’t be more excited that the original filmmaking team responsible for the first two worldwide hits is reuniting for this third installment. We love where the story is taking Agents Jay and Kay and know this new chapter will deliver a fresh fun twist for fans of the franchise while also introducing the Men in Black to a whole new generation of moviegoers.”

What exactly is he rumored to be in that film right now? Not really sure, but you all are more than welcome to chime in and give us your two cents on what you think Mr. Jones could be.

Joe Johnston is attached to direct the Marvel Studios picture written by Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus. Chris Evans stars as Steve Rogers/Captain America with a cast that includes Hayley Atwell, Hugo Weaving and Sebastian Stan. The feature centers on the origin on the World War II fighter who gets recruited into a top secret defense program that turns him into a “super soldier”.

Filming for The First Avenger: Captain America is starting up this June with a July 22nd, 2011 release date to be reached.

No word on when the script will be completed, but they are eagerly awaiting it, hoping to wrap up the entire production for a Memorial Day 2011 release. Men in Black has always been a big success box office wise, especially with the sequel which managed to make an estimated $190 Million domestically alone.

The one part that nobody really likes to read anymore is the fact that the film will be released not only in regular 2D but 3D as well. Love or hate it, the third dimension presentation of filmmaking is here to stay for some time, especially with the increased ticket prices that the movie theaters coughed up in order to completely capitalize on the sudden revitalized popularity.

Jones will next appear on the big screen in the John Wells written and directed film The Company Men.

It looks like actor Josh Brolin is being eyeballed to possibly join up on the cast on the mainly unknown pre-production on Men in Black 3. What starts really boggling the mind about the production of this particular project is what was released from Sony Pictures from Latino Review:

His exact part is a matter of discussion, but in recent days there’s been chatter in Hollywood development circles of a few possibilities: He could play a new single-monikered government agent, with Tommy Lee Jones’ Agent K passing the baton to Brolin’s character. Or he could play Agent K as a young man. Or something else entirely.

Whatever the part, Brolin could be playing against some star power: Will Smith is expected to return in the new “MIB” as Agent J. Sony is currently contemplating a production start for the picture in 2010 (though it has yet to be greenlit).

Is this possibly a recipe for something good to actually make the third one, if it ever gets greenlit, worth watching? Or is this just one huge failed attempt because of the plain fact that Will Smith is not even on board? Mind you, Men in Black 2 came out in the summer of 2002, so plenty of time has passed for the I Am Legend star to loose interest.

Jones has been set to direct and co-star with Matthew McConaughey in the Lakeshore Entertainment adaptation of the Michael Connelly novel (Variety). That means that Lakeshore is already fast on the hunt for another director and actor despite this pretty big setback.

Jones’ latest movie is in the middle of post-production on a film called The Company Men. The story centers on a year in the life of three men trying to survive a round of corporate downsizing at a major company – and how that affects them, their families, and their communities. The John Wells directed film has a to be announced 2010 release date.
