Friends with Benefits starts production in May

Production Weekly reveals to us that the new Ivan Reitman feature Friends with Benefits will be filming a lot sooner than expected, starting up this May in Los Angeles. The story revolves around a guy and girl who try to keep their relationship strictly physical, but it’s not long before they learn that they want something more. Elizabeth Meriwether wrote the script for this feature, already starring Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher. Ivan Reitman will be producing with Tom Pollock and Joe Medjuck for Montecito Picture Company.

This can pose as a delightful distraction for the folks at Columbia Pictures, who already were hoping that Reitman would become too busy to handle directing Ghostbusters 3. There’s a bit of a tussle going on between the two, mainly due to the fact that Columbia Pictures wants a young director to tackle the third installment. Reitman refuses to budge, mainly due to the fact that he not only has a great hand of creative control over the property but because he directed the previous two features.

Ivan Reitman might be entangled with the development of Ghostbusters 3 with Columbia Pictures, but he’s still putting together other projects for the time being. One of those is the previously titled Fuckbuddies which is now under the new working title Friends with Benefits in which Reitman is going to latch on as director. Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman co-star in the script from newcomer Elizabeth Meriwether.

The logline is being kept under tight wraps, although storyline generally revolves around the ease with which men and women become sexually involved, but have a far more difficult time establishing emotional bonds (Variety). Reitman is also serving as producer along with Joe Medjuck and Tom Pollock who are both working under Montecito Picture Company. Paramount Pictures is handling the distribution for this project.

Martini has a Family Secret

“The Proposal” and “Lymelife” director Derick Martini is ready to shake things up again with Paramount Pictures in “I Am My Family’s Secret”. The script picked up from Paramount was penned by Martini himself, one of several within his career that he’s already contributed literary-wise. Story revolves around two very different brothers who discover their parents have been hiding a life-changing secret for more than two decades (Variety). Martini did not only write the script but also will direct.

Ivan Reitman and Tom Pollock will be producing with Pollock under Montecito Picture Company. Pollock is attached as executive producer to several films including the Jason Reitman directed “Up in the Air” and the Amanda Seyfried starring “Chloe”.
