The story revolves around Mikael Blomkvist, a once-respected financial journalist, who watches his professional life rapidly crumble around him. Prospects appear bleak until an unexpected (and unsettling) offer to resurrect his name is extended by an old-school titan of Swedish industry. The catch–and there’s always a catch–is that Blomkvist must first spend a year researching a mysterious disappearance that has remained unsolved for nearly four decades. With few other options, he accepts and enlists the help of investigator Lisbeth Salander, a misunderstood genius with a cache of authority issues.

The script is currently being written by Steve Zaillian, who’s previous credits include Schnidler’s List and American Gangster. The previously mentioned Swedish film of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo premiered in the States at this year’s South By SouthWest Film Festival to good reviews.

Fincher wrapped up filming for his latest project The Social Network, a story written by Aaron Sorkin on Mark Zuckerberg and his creation of the online website Facebook. The Social Network is expected to be released on October 15th of this year.

A prodigy who captured the world’s imagination when he won the World Chess Championship over Russian Boris Spassky in a Cold War-era match that drew international media attention, Fischer had a rougher time after that. He faded from view, living abroad and surfacing to make anti-American and anti-Semitic statements. He lived in exile in Iceland until he died (Deadline New York).

Principal photography is expected to start up in the fall with a script penned by Eastern Promises scribe Steven Knight. Maguire is producing with Gail Katz and Jenno Topping all under his production company Maguire Entertainment. Maguire can next be seen in the Jacob Aaron Estes written and directed comedy called The Details.

So, all of you LOTR fans, what do you think of this new development? Do you think that the baby blue eyed Maguire can play it up as another person of the Shire? Or should he just bury his head in his Spider-Man costume and go back to NYC?

Carpenter was recently seen on the latest season finale of the hit Showtime Networks show Dexter. Cage can be seen in Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans in theaters now and Jones can still be seen in the some-what newly released film Pirate Radio.

In the flick Capt. Sam Cahill (Tobey Maguire) is called on to do another tour of duty in Afghanistan, leaving his wife Grace (Natalie Portman) and his two daughters home to fend for themselves. Not long after he arrives in Afghanistan, Sam is involved in an accident and presumed dead. His criminal brother Tommy (Jake Gyllenhaal) decides to try to straighten up his life and works hard at being there for his brother’s wife and daughters during this difficult time in their lives. Only, Sam isn’t dead at all, he is being held as a prisoner of war and enduring a multitude of torturous acts at the hands of his captors. Miraculously Sam makes it home, but he’s not the same man he was when he left.

The marketing of the flick made it seem like a love triangle movie, but it’s actually about the emotional trauma brought on by war. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I connected with this movie. Like I said, I don’t usually dig flicks involving Afghanistan or Iraq and I really don’t identify with remakes either. This particular flick had both strikes against it. I haven’t seen the original flick, Brødre by writer/director Susanne Bier, but after seeing Brothers I’m going to check it out as soon as I can.

Director Jim Sheridan did a fine job with this story and he picked a fine cast as well. All of the actors dialed in solid performances, but for this reviewer it was Tobey Maguire that stood out. He lost a lot of weight for this flick, he played a character that I’ve never seen him play before, a character that demanded your attention every time he was on screen. Brothers is a solid picture and a welcome break from all the drivel I’ve been seeing lately.

Once again Tobey Maguire is attached to produce along with Jenno Topping. The script is penned up and is being directed by Shana Feste. The film will be not only under Screen Gems for distribution but will also be under Maguire Entertainment.

Story’s centered on a high school chemistry teacher, played by Cage, whose wife is the victim of a brutal crime which leads him to align himself with an underground vigilante organization. Perrineau will play Cage’s friend and boss, an ex-cop turned high school principal whose loyalties are tested.

Hungry Rabbit Jumps includes Nicolas Cage and January Jones and is being directed by Roger Donaldson. The script is penned by Robert Tannen and is being produced by Ram Bergman, James D. Stern and Tobey Maguire. Donaldson’s previous work includes The Recruit and The Bank Job. Harold Perrineau just finished wrapping up on the horror sequel 30 Days of Night: Dark Days which is based off of the IDW Publishing comic book series 30 Days of Night.
