The only real thing that any of us know about The Hangover 2 is that it’s set in Thailand and that the lead actors are all coming back to reprise their roles. Well, you can quickly scratch out the first “fact”, cause it’s anything but that. The Hangover and The Hangover 2 director Todd Phillips spoke with Collider and cleared up a couple of things for the rest of us.:

There’s a lot of talk that “The Hangover II” is going to Thailand.

I don’t know. There’s a lot of rumors. There was rumor also that it was going to Mexico or something and neither are true.

When are you starting to film “Hangover II”?

November.

Really?

1st. That’s what we’re trying, but you know a lot of it has to do with Ed Helm’s office schedule and Bradley Cooper’s other movies. Right now our goal is to start shooting November 1st.

There’s still no word as to what exactly the script is going to be about. Like previously stated, stars Zach Galifianakis, Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Justin Bartha and Heather Graham are all coming back to reprise their roles in the sequel. The Hangover 2 is currently set for a to-be-announced 2011 release date.

It looks like the sequel to the sleeper hit of this past summer will be getting a location change. The Hangover, which just hit DVD and Blu-Ray this past Tuesday, warranted itself a sequel once the numbers to the Todd Phillips film quickly started coming in. Collecting around $277 Million domestically only, it was only a matter of time before a sequel got greenlit. The sequel in question will more than likely at this point be set up in Thailand, reports Chud.

The Warner Bros Pictures film is set to already be released possibly sometime in 2011. The only problem about it all is the clear fact that the plot for the sequel has not been released. Since they are still heavily working on it, we can only guess what it’ll be about.

Welcome back to Killer Film’s New Release Tuesday for December 15th! Christmas is around the corner, and you can knock off some gifts by clicking on the cover ar and ordering from Amazon! Let’s get to what you might be buying today…

The Hangover

This R-rated comedy blew up the box office. Funniest and most profitable comedy of the year. (Formats: Blu-ray/DVD) Jon says: Buy Donny says: Buy

Inglourious Basterds

This film contains some of the best written scenes in Tarantino’s career, namely the opening scene. Great performances, too. I do wish the middle was edited better, well, let me just say ridding the film of Michael Myers, would have been wise. Still, a fun, rocking, WWII American what if film! (Formats: Blu-ray/DVD) Jon says: Buy Donny says: Buy

G-Force

Disney is the king of making live action films mixed with animation. Does it mean that this is good, no, but I’m sure the young ones will eat it up. (Formats: Blu-ray/DVD) Jon says: Rent Donny says: Rent

Taking Woodstock

The dramatic telling of how the famous concert came to be, with a great cast, and directed by Ang Lee, came and went without any fuss. Looks mediocre, in my opinion. (Formats: Blu-ray/DVD) Jon says: Skip Donny says: Rent

The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard

One of the few comedic summer bombs this year. Best bits are in the trailer. (Formats: Blu-ray/DVD) Jon says: Skip Donny says: Skip

New to Blu

Star Trek- The Original Series: Season 3

The Mel Brooks Collection

That does it for this week, so please keep coming back for more news, reviews, and other goodies only on Killer Film!

Welcome back to Killer Film’s New Release Tuesday for July 21st! They’re some exciting releases today, and remember you can click the cover art to buy these titles and more from Amazon!

Watchmen

I have a feeling this will be one of the most decisive, debatable, and much talked about superhero films made. Some love it as much as the famous graphic novel, others feel it’s “just okay”. If you remember my review (here) I liked it a lot, but felt it was a bit lifeless at times. You can buy just the theatrical cut on DVD, or the new Director’s Cut, making the film well over 3 hours. Or you can wait till end of the year, when Warners releases a big box set of the film. Or, even still, you can be like me and just own the Blu Ray. Jon says: Buy Donny says: Buy

Coraline

Probably one of the better films in 2009, not too many people talk about now, but this film is pure magic. Fantastical, dark, imaginative, what more can one want? I would be shocked if this isn’t Oscar nominated for Best Animated Film. We get both options for the 3-D or traditional. Also on Blu Ray. Jon says: Buy Donny says: Buy

The Great Buck Howard

I’m a sucker for anything John Malkovich does. Heard good things. Also on Blu Ray. Jon says: Rent Donny says: Rent

Visioneers

Here’s a little seen indie comedy starring Zack Galifianakis from The Hangover. Again, heard good things. Jon says: Rent Donny says: Buy

Super Capers

Danielle Harris in spandex. Nuff said. Jon says: Rent Donny says: Rent

New to Blu

300: The Complete Experience

I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry

Midnight Express

Echelon Conspiracy

As always, keep it here at Killer Film for the reviews of these discs and more!

Time flies when you are watching movies-a lot of movies, and 2009 has already reached its halfway point. Here at Killer Film, we try to catch as much of the films being released as possible, and we would like to present our 2009 Mid Year Report. Keep it mind, this is only what we have seen, and we can safely say we wish we’ve seen more, but we do still have the second half of the year to catch up. Without further ado, here’s our take of 2009 so far.

Quick Thoughts on the Year so far…

Donny: While I love horror, drama, documentary, and every other genre of film out there, my favorite by far is comedy. In my opinion there is nothing better than watching good joke unfold on screen, but on the other hand if said joke doesn’t work (Year One) then my beloved genre falls flat on its face. Luckily, this year we’ve had some amazing comedies grace us with their undeniable funny. So far my favorites include; The Hangover, Adventureland, I Love You, Man, and the awesome direct to DVD 18 Year Old Virgin. I’m also looking forward to Funny People and I want to see mega-hottie Megan Fox in Jennifer’s Body. Lets hope the rest of the year offers up the good to make this year more than mediocre.

Jon: I think so far, it’s been a decent year as of July 1st. A few select films are really worth seeing, others are okay. I suspect the rest of the year will have great documentaries, as I haven’t seen much so far released this year. I have enjoyed seeing studios taking chances on unique films like Watchmen, Observe and Report, and The Hangover, and that’s refreshing. 3-D films have been big and constantly pushed, a trend we will see more of. For the most part, 2009 started off slow, for me, and is just now picking up. See you all at the end of the year!

Serena: Being a huge horror aficionada, I was disappointed by the initial lackluster horror films slashing their way to the big screen, but I was quite surprised by how exceptionally well done the mainstream horror fare was this year. I also was blown away by some hidden gems like Pontypool, Dead Snow and The Children (my fave film of 2009 so far) that all reminded us why foreign films are owning the horror genre these days. However, most of the big budget anticipated action films of 2009 have all left a bad taste in this reviewer’s mouth. So far 2009’s films are a far cry from last year’s jam-packed list, but I’m looking forward to being entertained by Jake West’s Doghouse, Diablo Cody’s anticipated horror follow-up, Jennifer’s Body and to see how Juno is going to react to being left for dead in a cave in The Descent 2.

Now, to the good stuff….

With this weekends number 1 film, The Hangover, still ringing in most people heads, one may wonder how plausible it is for something like that to actually happen. It now appears the film was actually taken in part by real events that occurred with one of the film’s producers to which the story was then fleshed out into a screen play.

Nikki Finke : It all started with Chris Bender who heard the story of how his Hollywood friend went mysteriously missing from his bachelor party in Las Vegas. The pal was film producer Tripp Vinson (The Guardian, The Number 23, and now the Red Dawn remake) who in 2002 was engaged to marry Endeavor motion picture lit agent Adriana Alberghetti. Like always happens, the real facts don’t quite match up with the movie. There was no wedding scheduled that same weekend. Instead, the bachelor party was held months earlier. It consisted of 30 guys booked into the Hard Rock Hotel for a wild night of partying at a succession of Vegas restaurants, clubs and strip joints.

“I remember being a drunken fool, as you’re supposed to do at your bachelor party, and having a really good time with all my friends,” Vinson told me. “But then I remember being a mess. And when people are fucked up, crazy shit happens.” That’s when Tripp went missing from his bash. Even now, all Vinson knows is, “I got separated from my friends, and I blacked out. And when I was revived, I was in a strip club being threatened with a very, very large bill I was supposed to pay. It was not a fun experience at the time, but it made for a funny story.”

….No word yet if there was a real life fat Jesus among his friends.

The film begins with a bride preparing for the most important day of her life, when she receives a phone call that could change her life forever. Her soon-to-be-husband Doug (Justin Bartha) was misplaced by his best friends during his Vegas bachelor party. The last thing his friends; Stu (Ed Helms), Phil (Bradley Cooper), and Alan (Zach Galifianakis) remember is sharing shots on the roof of Caesars Palace. They wake up in their hotel room with a tiger, a chicken, a missing baby, a missing tooth, terrible hangovers, and a missing Doug.

The three hungover miscreants set out to retrace their steps in hopes of finding Doug and solving the many mysteries of their Vegas adventure. As the events of the night before slowly reveal themselves they find out that they did things that they could never have imagined.

I wasn’t waiting for this flick to kick as much ass as it did. I was sure that Zach was gonna rock, but when everyone in the flick rocked I was pleasantly surprised. Even Mike Tyson was solid! But the real star of this flick is the script. All of the jokes work, and the flick has a story and isn’t just a bunch of set pieces and setups for skits that fall short. These characters are flawed, real, and lovable. They do and say things that middle-aged men would say and do, and none of the performances ever seem forced.

The Hangover is a laugh-out-loud tour de force of funny and most positively a killer film.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

With this week’s theatrical release of the much anticipated buddy flick The Hangover; I started to think about how films have illuminated Las Vegas and why people are constantly attracted to the world’s most infamous city. Over the decades, films have shown us the glamorous side of Vegas by showcasing the lights, the attractions, the guaranteed hook ups, and the thrills of hearing “winner winner, chicken dinner.” However, films have also shown us the ugly side of Vegas which sometimes results in outrageous gambling debts, rushed annulments and itchy genitals only a pharmaceutical cream could alleviate. It is a city so sinful that it even turned Screech Powers and Zack Morris into male escorts in a TV movie. (Not the Saved by the Bell reference you were expecting from this article, was it?)

With that in mind, it is imperative to know the history of Las Vegas before going on that getaway trip you and your friends have been planning since first finding out how that money was not just used as currency but was also used as a synonym for “cool” and movies have proven to be useful to guide one in the right direction. So like Randy Meeks would say, (if he wasn’t a geek, into just horror movies and if he didn’t die in Scream 2) there are certain rules one must abide to successfully survive a Las Vegas trip:

Rule 1: Ladies… DON’T date Casino Owners

Although it may sound tempting to date a man in power that can afford to get you whatever your heart desires, it may not be the wisest idea. Besides the obvious mob connections tied to many Vegas casino owners, there’s also a lot to be said about having everything at your fingertips. Everything comes to you both good and bad and before you know it, you’ll end up coked up and performing oral sex on Joe Pesci like Sharon Stone in Casino, and NO woman should ever be subjected to that punishment.

Rule 2: DON’T eat the shrimp at an all you can eat buffet

Besides teaching viewers about the longevity of orgasms from tantric sex, Taye Digg’s character in Doug Liman’s Go also reveals how shrimp is full of iodine while his onscreen buddies (played by Breckin Meyer and James Duval) are pigging out on them on their way to Vegas. Unfortunately, those two spend the rest of the evening following Kim Kardashian’s diet plan, (a.k.a “sh*tting the night away) proving that the only game of “Craps” you will play after eating a large quantity of shrimp will involve a constant flushing toilet and a cheap and gigantic roll of air-thin toilet paper.

Rule 3: Be Aware of your Surroundings if you see an Elvis Impersonator

If you see an Elvis impersonator, calmly take a minute and ask yourself these questions: How drunk am I? Who is this person beside me? Why are we in a drive-thru that doesn’t serve food? Are those wedding bells I hear? If the series of questions leads you to hearing “Here comes the bride” in the background…RUN. Do not walk…just run and get the hell out of there

Rule 4: DON’T sleep with a hooker in the washroom

Well..really..don’t sleep with a hooker period. Although, if you must play a game of Russian sex roulette with an overpriced call girl, make sure to not get hot and heavy in the washroom. If Very Bad Things taught us anything, towel racks can be deadly.

Rule 5: DON’T Pay it Forward

If a bright and enthusiastic child offers to help you out in Las Vergas, say thank you. However, if he asks you to “pay it forward” tell him to go f*ck himself. Harsh I know, but you might be saving him from getting stabbed to death by intervening in a schoolyard fight. (The worst ending ever by the way!)

Rule 6: DO run through the kitchen if being chased

Sometimes Vegas can be a dangerous journey and sometimes you may find yourself being chased by a couple of generic thugs. If you find yourself in this situation, never take the stairs. The stairs just lead to you being stranded on a rooftop and nowhere to go. When being chased, always go through a restaurant kitchen…it will most definitely buy you some time when the thugs trip over the kitchen staff. (Trust me…they will always trip)

Rule 7: DON’T recite lines from Swingers

Men everywhere can probably recite the rules and key lines from Swingers in their sleep, but although if you’re a man on a Vegas vacation, please refrain reciting them. Unless of course the idea of ending your night with Keri Lotion and a box of tissues seems thrilling to you.

Rule 8: DON’T rely on ASD to help you win big

Unlike Dustin Hoffman’s character in Rain Man, people with Autism Spectrum disorders don’t always have special ‘savant’ skills. Yup, I just realized I will go too far if I say what’s on my brain right now. Basically….don’t expect to win 80,000 dollars on blackjack with ASD. (*Biting tongue.)

Rule 9: DO accept the Indecent Proposal!

Seriously, we’re going through an economic crisis. If you need to get out of your financial cul-de-sac by jumping in the sack with an old rich stranger, why not? Sure, you’re putting a price on your soul and your relationship, but that million dollar price tag could surely help ease the guilt and pain away don’t you think?

Rule 10: If you see a leprechaun…get the f*ck out!

Unless of course you have just taken numerous mind altering drugs with your lawyer, in which case enjoy the trip and the many hallucinogenic cameo appearances sure to appear from it.

So if you’re going to Vegas, keep this tried and true list by your side at all times. Although if the closest you’ll ever come to Vegas is watching The Hangover and experiencing one at the same time, have fun, stay past the credits and pop two advils and have a Red Bull promptly after the show is done.

Regardless of anything you do during these warm months; swimming, vacationing, picnicking, you’ll be in a cold theater for the summer movies. It never fails, year after year, each summer promises big hype, big action, and big laughs. But what to see? There’s a lot of flicks aiming for you and your (important) dollar this summer. Everything from cartoons, to 3-D spectacles, to franchise pictures, so let us, Killer Film, in our attempt at infinite wisdom shuffle through each of the four summer months to see what you should and shouldn’t see. To keep it all simple, we’ll state our reasonings on whether you should see it theatrically or not with a brief opinion and a See It or Skip It. Of course, we’ll be seeing everything so check back with our reviews to see if we we’re spot on, but now onto Summer Preview: June.

(June 5th)

Land of the Lost

Jon: The trailer has done nothing to interest me in this film. While the great Gene Siskel said never judge a movie based on the trailer, I can’t help it. I know the original source material (anyone remember the 70s TV series?) was campy, but it looks like this is a spoof. If so, I’m sick of spoofs. I’m getting over Will Ferrell as well-he’s not funny to me anymore. The only redeeming factor for me is Danny McBride. The CG looks awful too. Skip It.

Donny: I’m a comedy fan, so I don’t need to say that even if it blows goats I’m gonna check it out in the theatre. I love both Danny McBride and Will Ferrel, and the fact that it does look like a spoof doesn’t bother me in the least. I watched the original show when I was a kid, but for some reason this remake doesn’t bother me. See it.

The Hangover

Jon: Everyone is talking about this film. It looks hilarious. A wild night in Vegas leads to a missing friend and other odd occurrences like a Phil Collins solo by Mike Tyson. Could be the sleeper hit of the summer. The scene where the baby gets whacked by a car door is movie moment gold to me. I’m mean, this looks like nothing more than an average Saturday night if you hang with me, but I guess people think this is wild! Just kidding, just See It.

Donny: Zach Galifianakis baby! That is reason enough for me to check this bad boy out, and the Mike Tyson scene looks classic as well. See it.

Away We Go

Jon: Mendes does a summer comedy? After such heavy drama filled material like Jarhead and Revolutionary Road, this looks like a bit of fresh air in his filmography. It looks funny, too. People forget how comical American Beauty was in parts. I’m also liking that fact that this film isn’t anchored by huge stars, just Maya Rudolph and John Krasinski. I’m expecting this to be a good film. See It

Donny: I enjoy Mendes’s work, and the trailer definitely makes the film look like fun. I’m curious to see Mendes tackle comedy so I’ll be there as soon as it hits a theatre near me. See it.

(June 12th)

Taking of Pelham 1 2 3

Jon: For me, Tony Scott is hit or miss. He injects Red Bull into his film’s editing, sometimes to dizzying effects. John Travolta is in a desperate need of a comeback film (isn’t he always?), and we have Denzel. The trailer looks good. The cast is solid. I suspect this might be winner, but there seems something stale about it. I’ve never seen the original film, but I’m going on a leap of faith here and am saying See It

Donny: I’m so tired of Travolta. I really dig the guys early films, but I’m tired of his newer work, and for some reason I don’t care for him as a bad guy. When he plays the villain he always seem to over act. It’s times like this I’m glad I’m the boss, because I can let Jon take this one and I can avoid it like the plague. Skip it.

Imagine That

Jon: I can’t stand the fact that Eddie Murphy still makes crap. I can’t stand the fact that he actually thought he was going to win the Oscar instead of Alan Arkin a few year’s ago, and stormed off after he lost. After a ton of duds, this doesn’t look bad, really. Should be what it seems: a family film with some laughs and drama. I don’t think it needs to be seen theatrically though. Skip It

Donny: I have no desire to see this one either. Skip it.

Moon

Jon: I expect many of you won’t be able to see this when it’s first released. It’s an art house sci-fi film starring Sam Rockwell. I’m sold. I heard it’s a bit 2001 or Solaris but really good. With sci-fi back this summer, it’s nice to know outside all of the explosions and special effects, someone can tell an intelligent sci-fi story. See It

Donny: I’m totally down for this one! I love Sam Rockwell and I love science fiction even more, so this one is a no brainer for me. See it.

(June 19th)

Year One

Jon: At first, I thought it looked horrible. Then, after seeing the trailer a gazillion times, I’m swinging over to the “it looks decent” camp. I feel as if Michael Cera’s form of speech and comedy is getting dangerously old, but the apparent laughs that could come from this scenario, are winning me over. There hasn’t been a good caveman movie in a while…scratch that, any caveman movie in a long while. See It

Donny: Like Jon I’m getting tired of Cera’s acting but I’m still gonna check this one out in the theatre. I’m not excited about it, but Jack Black is usually pretty funny. See it.

The Proposal

Jon: You know, this is squarely aimed at the female demographic, as they don’t have much this year for themselves, but it looks decent. Bullock is bland, but maybe with the right co-star like Ryan Reynolds, she might be good. The whole thing seems like “been there, done that”, but this could be a good date movie. I might get flack for this, but if you’re woman is sick of “man” movies, then See It.

Donny: I’m married to a women that loves this type of flick. What does that mean you ask? It means that I’m gonna have to see this one whether I like it or not. So if I have to see it I’m going to recommend everyone else suffer through it as well. Bullock does look hot in the poster though, so that’s a plus. See it.

Dead Snow

Jon: Airing on In Demand the same date as this very limited theatrical release, perhaps no film was talked about more from this year’s Sundance than this. Why? Two words: Nazi zombies. Suddenly the stars aligned and all is right with the world. Nazi zombies, ladies and gentlemen, Nazi zombies. See It.

Donny: For once I totally agree with Jon. Nazi zombies Mother F***er! See it.

(June 26th)

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

Jon: As much as I could care less about the first film since it was overly long, poorly edited action, and too jokey, this looks pretty kick ass. Ugh, I hate myself for admitting that to the world. Michael Bay? Ugh. Shia? Ugh. John Turturro? Ugh. Megan Fox and what looks to be insane action? Okay, I’m there midnight showing. Damn it. Now Donny will never let me live this down, that I’m recommending a Bay film. See It.

Donny: Hell to the yes baby! Michael Bay is A-W-E-S-O-M-E awesome! Also Megan Fox leaning over a motorcycle in really short jean shorts, giant robots, explosions, Shia, and Megan Fox leaning over a motorcycle in really short jean shorts! You bet your ass I’m gonna be there at midnight for this one. See it.

My Sister’s Keeper

Jon: I wanted to cry after seeing this trailer. Geez, talk about a tear jerker. Great counter-programming this week. Fathers and sons are off seeing robots fight and Megan Fox’s ass, and mothers and daughters are crying about dying cancer kids. Truth be told, if this film skimps on the manipulation of the idea, it could be a good film. See It.

Donny: I’m gonna let Jon see this while I see Megan Fox’s ass. Skip it.

And that’s June! Keep it here at Killer Film for reviews of these films and more! I’m sure Donny and I will be battling over Transformers, so that should be comical. Also, feel free to always leave comments and you can email us at jon@killerfilm and donny@killerfilm as we love hearing from you! See you at the movies!
