According to The Hollywood Reporter, Greg Berlanti, Michael Green and Marc Guggenheim have been hired to pen a treatment for a sequel to The Green Lantern. Also, the trio will be writing a treatment for a live-action adaptation of The Flash. The deal is that they would write a screenplay for one of the two projects, but which one has yet to be determined.

It’s rare to see the development of a sequel this far from the release date, but shows that Warner Bros. is confident in the success of the film. The Green Lantern is currently shooting in New Orleans and stars Ryan Reynolds as the title character.

The studio felt that with Batman 3 and the Superman reboot Man of Steel in development, The Flash was simply the next logical step. Development on a feature film about The Flash has been talked about for years, and it’s good to see that the movie is actually going to happen. The film is said to be taking inspiration from Geoff Johns’, now CCO of DC Entertainment Inc., most recent work.  The film is said to feature the Barry Allen version of The Flash.

The Green Lantern will open on June 17, 2011.

The story sees Bullock as a criminal suspect with Reynolds as an FBI agent who is supposed to be escorting her to court when the two are ambushed and forced to go on the run (THR). Universal Pictures has their hand on the upcoming action comedy, but no word yet on when filming will begin.

Ryan Reynolds is still in the middle of filming Martin Campbell’s The Green Lantern, DC Comics’ make it or break feature that can put them on the same movie crossover playing field like Marvel if executed properly. The Green Lantern is set to be released on June 17th, 2011.

The Green Lantern stars Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, a test pilot who’s given a green ring that grants him powers, as well as membership into an intergalactic squadron tasked with keeping peace within the universe. The Martin Campbell film comes out in theaters on June 17th, 2011 from Warner Bros.:

A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers,” read the movie’s premise. “But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan.”

The synopsis adds that Jordan must learn to wield his new powers in order to overcome the villain, suggesting that Mark Strong’s Sinestro may not be the Green Lantern’s archenemy until later in the series.

The big screen version of the popular comics stars Ryan Reynolds, Peter Sarsgaard, Blake Lively, Mark Strong, Temuera Morrison and Tim Robbins. That’s right. No suit. When I was first told this info, I didn’t believe it. I actually didn’t even consider it as a real possibility. But the information I’m about to reveal has since been backed up by two other independent sources. I stand by this information 150% — this is legit. I risk my reputation on it. Ready for it? Okay…

The suit that Ryan wears on set is a grey tracking motion/performance capture suit with led lights. That’s right — Green Lantern’s suit will be mostly CG!

I’ve heard that when the cg is complete, the suit will look like a manifestation of his power. And while I couldn’t confirm this, I’ve heard that DC’s Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns has seen the designs and given them his blessing.

The suit is lined with white LEDs, which I initially thought might be used to give a practical glow (kind of like how Billy Crudup wore blue LEDs to give the actors around Dr. Manhattan a blue glow in Watchmen), but I’ve since been told might just be for mo-cap tracking purposes.

Now that it’s confirmed that nobody will be able to see Reynolds in the actual Green Lantern outfit until the CG is done with it, what do you think of this different take on the science fiction superhero’s costume? The Green Lantern is currently in the middle of filming in New Orleans with the directional reigns being held on tight by Martin Campbell. The DC Entertainment and Warner Bros Pictures film is poised to come out in theaters on June 17th, 2011.

“‘The Closer’s’ letting me shoot off in June a little bit, and I’m doing a little picture called ‘Green Lantern,’ and that will be fun! Ryan Reynolds is the Green Lantern, and when he is a young boy, like 11, I’m his father. I’m Hal Jordan’s dad. I’m very excited – it’s incredible company,”

When asked if he could comment on the script Tenney had this to say, “Well, it’s under lockdown, that script. It’s very, very secretive. They’re only releasing sections of it, so they’re keeping everybody in the dark,” he said. “What I’ve read is amazing. And ‘Green Lantern’ was one of my favorite comic book characters as a kid.”

I have heard that the script wouldn’t be too silly or comical, which worried me when Ryan Reynolds was cast. I do like that we get to see Hal Jordan as a kid, but I hope it doesn’t spend too much time on that like Batman Begins did. It worked for that character, but I don’t think it would for the Green Lantern.

The Green Lantern is set to hit theaters on June 17, 2011.

He went on to say it’s going to be PG-13 and it’s a buddy action/comedy.  He said Reynolds would play the cop who just died and the other lead hasn’t been cast yet.

R.I.P.D. is his favorite project. It’s the thing he wants to do more than anything and we’ve scheduled that for January.

It is unclear if that group will pop up in “Lantern” or if that mythology is being set up (Heat Vision Blog).

Also part of the cast is the talents of Blake Lively, Temuera Morrison, Peter Sarsgaard, Tim Robbins and Mark Strong. The Green Lantern has been around in comics for years, originating from the minds of Bill Finger and Martin Nodell in 1940. The Green Lantern is expected to come out in theaters and in 3D on June 17th, 2011.

Rodrigo Cortes directs the suspenseful film from a script written by Chris Sparling who’s already in the middle of writing ATM. Buried premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, being scooped up rather quickly by Lionsgate and being known as one of the largest deals within the ten days of the showcase.

Ryan Reynolds is attached to a couple of other pictures at the moment, those being The Green Lantern and Change Up.

This story is a male-centric take on the genre, centering on a responsible family man (Bateman) who switches bodies with his best friend, a lazy man-child (Reynolds) (THR). The script was written by Scott Moore and Jon Lucas, who both collaborated together to write The Hangover.

Reynolds is totally the hot actor at the moment, already in the midst of production of Martin Campbell’s The Green Lantern and is expected to be back on the big screen later on this year in the Sundance Film Festival feature Buried. Bateman can next be seen co-starring alongside Jennifer Aniston, Patrick Wilson and Juliette Lewis in the romantic comedy The Switch this late August.

“Ridley’s doing the next Alien in 3D. Ridley told me some of his ideas when we were here in Toronto. He has a very clear understanding of where this should go. They kind of stopped dead one of the greatest horror franchises there’s ever been, and it had legs to go on. So I’m hoping he’ll revive another three. The world certainly wants it, and the fans want it – everybody. “

Back to The Green Lantern news, this is not as much of a decision from DC Comics as it is from Warner Bros Pictures. Not only are they going to convert the superhero to 3D, but the same goes for Zack Snyder’s latest live action feature Sucker Punch, says THR. Sure, we all know about his upcoming animated directed feature Legend of the Guardians, but let’s fill you back in on some more of Sucker Punch.

The story, set in the 1950s, centers on a little girl (Emily Browning) who is trying to hide from the pain caused by her evil stepfather and lobotomy. She ends up in mental institution and while there she starts to imagine alternative reality. She plans to escape from that imaginary world but to do that she needs to steal five objects before she is caught by a vile man.

Sucker Punch comes out on March 25th, 2011 while The Green Lantern is released on June 17th, 2011.
