Hallstrom takes on Tom’s Dad

Dear John director Lasse Hallström is getting wrangled in by Point Blank Productions to direct the upcoming feature entitled Tom’s Dad. The film already includes Patrick Dempsey headlining the cast with the script penned by Martin Casella.

Set in 1962 Las Vegas with a successful character film actor and a comedy vaudevillian nightclub performer at a crossroads because the changing styles of comedy is making him obsolete. His situation’s complicated by the arrival of his long-estranged young son (Variety).

Producing the film is Keith Clarke and Joni Levin under Point Blank with Infinitum Nihil attached to the production. No word yet on when principal photography will commence. Hallström is attached to direct the novel adaptation The Danish Girl, the script currently being written by Lucinda Coxon.

Kidman is The Wedding Doctor

Nicole Kidman is taking it upon herself to be the expert of relationships as she signs on to star in the upcoming romantic comedy The Wedding Doctor. The picture has yet to sign on a director for the script penned by Jonathan Abrams. Relativity Media is backing the production and is still on the hunt for a distributor for the upcoming flick.

Kidman would play a relationship analyst who advises couples on their interpersonal dynamics before they marry. But after she meets her latest clients, the doc decides she’d actually be a better match for the groom-to-be, triggering a showdown with his fiancée (Vulture). Kidman can next be seen in a couple of other films this year which include John Cameron Mitchell’s Rabbit Hole and is in the middle of pre-production on the Lasse Hallstrom directed The Danish Girl and the new Adam Sandler comedy Just Go with It.

Gwyneth Paltrow joins The Danish Girl

Having been a passion project for Oscar winner Nicole Kidman for years now, Gwyneth Paltrow is signed on to be in “The Danish Girl”. This is a new film directed by Thomas Alfredson of “Let The Right One In” fame. It tells the story of Einar Wegener and his loyal wife Greta who works as an accomplished painter. One day, when a woman is unable to sit in for a portrait that Greta asks her husband to play the role. Thus he dons a woman’s dress, shoes and so forth, until something clicks in his mind and begins a metamorphosis into what Einar would soon call Lili. It brings the man happiness while causing a rift in the pair’s marriage and what would become the story of the first post operative transsexual.
