Robert Pattison, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner have spent more than three years in their roles as Edward Cullen, Bella Swan and Jacob Black in The Twilight Saga movies. Now that they have finished filming the series, it’s time to focus on what’s next.

For Kristen Stewart, the next role is playing Snow White in Snow White and the Huntsman. In fact, she can see some similarities between Bella and Snow White.

“They really both are, in different ways, matriarchs – very strong, strong matriarchs.”

Even though she’s moved on from the role, there are parts of Bella that will stay with her.

“If you’re the type of girl to identify with Bella, then you just kind of are her. You’re not playing yourself all the time, but, for her, somehow I could not disagree with her, ever. I think we’re pretty similar at times,” she said.

Her key to avoiding being typecast is simply choosing projects that she’s interested in doing.

“The movies that I’ve done in between the Twilight films – I’ve just been really lucky that they’ve been very different. Not because I’ve meant them to be, but literally because the things that I was drawn to happen to be different from the Twilight movies,” she said.

Robert Pattinson’s next film, Cosmopolis, is in post-production, and it was a completely different experience from working on a popular franchise.

“I just worked with David Cronenberg [on Cosmopolis], and just to see him … he’s left alone by everyone because, I mean, obviously he’s proved himself time and time again. It’s really strange; I’ve never really worked with someone with absolutely no pressure from anywhere else but from themselves and from the environment in which they’ve chosen to work in, and it’s kind of nice to know that the pressure is not caused by compromises or anything like that. They’ve taken the responsibility on themselves, and it’s really up to them to make it what they want,” he said.

Taylor Lautner may or may not be working with director Gus Van Sant on his next project.

“It’s very premature, so I really don’t have much to say now other than the fact that I really, really respect him and would love the opportunity to work with him,” he said.

In the meantime, Lautner says that there are parts of Jacob that will stick with him.

“After playing the same character for five movies and for years, you grow close to him. There are many things I look up to Jacob for. Jacob is one of the most loyal people, one of the most persistent people. He has amazing qualities to him that I hope I can learn from him and implement into my own life,” he said.

Not only that, but it seems that an offer has been made to Taylor Lautner (Twilight series) to portay David. That shouldn’t be too surprising as Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey also produced the Twilight films.

Could Lautner really take down The Rock with stones? Only in a movie.

Lionsgate is releasing the film on September 23rd, as Lautner tries to keep his shirt on and prove he’s more than a love-torn werewolf in this action thriller.

I still remember rushing home from high school to tune in to Carson Daly’s “TRL” (“Total Request Live,” in case you’ve forgotten). Don’t laugh; Backstreet Boys versus ‘NSYNC produced some epic battles. I still remember when videos premiered on MTV at one specific time rather than going viral on YouTube. I still remember when reality TV meant “The Real World: New York” – yes, the first one.

But there were two other evenings out of the year when MTV took time out from videos to show some live programming – the MTV Video Music Awards, honoring the best in music video that year, and the MTV Movie Awards, honoring the best in cinema that year.

I will admit that in my teens, I actually preferred the MTV Movie Awards to the Oscars. At 15, they seemed so much, well, cooler, than the stuffy, pompous, overly-important Oscars. The nominees were actors and actresses I actually cared about and movies I’d actually seen. They didn’t take themselves so seriously, and I think that’s what I liked about it.

Of course, in my 20s, I had a change of heart. I became one of those people who went to see the stuffy, pompous, overly-important movies nominated for Oscars and discussed them with equally pompous friends over red wine or cappuccinos. Suddenly the MTV Movie Awards seemed so … pedestrian.

Now that I’m in my 30s, I’ve come to the conclusion that I can love (and watch) both of them. I started watching the MTV Movie Awards again when the cast of my favorite vampire saga started dominating the list of nominees, and I remembered how fun that awards so was – and still is. The categories themselves are certainly unique – you’re not going to find categories like Best Villain or Best Kiss at the Oscars. The musical performances are always interesting, and the acceptance speeches are often entertaining. What’s not to like?!

Here’s a look at some of the highlights from this year’s MTV Movie Awards, held on June 5:

Best Win: Emma Stone for Best Comedic Performance. I think this win was well deserved. The movie is hilarious, and she is hilarious in it – in a completely endearing way. Any woman who can make Hester Prynne seem cool is a comedic genius.

Best Acceptance Speech: Reese Witherspoon accepting the generation award. She took her award seriously, speaking to the generation of actresses who came up after her, telling them that, in essence, being good is cool. She asked today’s female celebrities to act like the role models they are, saying that she’s not embarrassed by her squeaky clean image. And she did it all with style and grace while still slipping in an expletive. Now that takes talent!

Favorite Awkward Moment: Best Kiss. So, it should come as no surprise at this point that Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart won this award … again … and didn’t kiss onstage (as is the MTV tradition) … again. It was hands down one of the funniest moments of the night when Pattinson said that he thought there was someone who deserved it more – and then ran out into the audience and kissed Taylor Lautner. Which brings me to …

MTV Movie Awards MVP: Robert Pattinson. Maybe it’s just because The Twilight Saga: Eclipse seemed to dominate the entire show, but it seemed like Pattinson was everywhere – on stage accepting awards, presenting the trailer for Breaking Dawn, and attempting to speaking poetically about costar Reese Witherspoon. It was awkward. It was kind of strange. And it was really funny. I still haven’t figured out whether or not there was liquid courage involved or if he was just incredibly nervous, but it made for an entertaining evening and some memorable quotes.

So, you tell us – what were your favorite (or not-so-favorite) moments from the awards show?

When he stumbles upon an image of himself as a little boy on a missing persons website, all of Nathan’s darkest fears come true: he realizes his parents are not his own and his life is a lie, carefully fabricated to hide something more mysterious and dangerous than he could have ever imagined.

Just as he begins to piece together his true identity, Nathan is targeted by a team of trained killers, forcing him on the run with the only person he can trust, his neighbor, Karen (Lily Collins). Every second counts as Nathan and Karen race to evade an army of assassins and federal operatives. But as his opponents close in, Nathan realizes that the only way he’ll survive – and solve the mystery of his elusive biological father – is to stop running and take matters into his own hands.

It seems those who were happy to finally see the Twilight series end on November 16th, 2012 may be out of luck as Stephene Meyer has hinted to USA Today that another Twilight novel could happen. This new novel is said to revolve around Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner in the films) and Renesmee Cullen (Mackenzie Foy), the daughter of Bella (Kristen Stewart) and Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson). And yes, the novel seems to be intended to become a movie eventually.

Fans of the novel knows about the relationship between the two characters, and Meyer feels Bella and Edward’s story has “already been told”. However, it will be sometime before this happens as Meyer is currently on another series for Young Adults. Meyer may wait until Mackenzie Foy is old enough to act against Lautner in an on-screen relationship.

In actual fact he has scored the lead role in the up and coming film Incarceron. Earlier this year we brought you the news (here) that Fox 2000 had acquired the rights to Catherine Fisher’s novel. No director has been attached yet, the film is being written by Adam Cooper and Bill Collage.

Lautner is currently filming the Breaking Dawn two parter, and once that wraps he’ll move on to the thriller Abduction (directed by John Singleton). I would assume once that has wrapped this will start filming.

For those not in the know, here is the Plot Summary for the book Incarceron: Finn, a young prisoner born from Incarceron – a brutal prison sealed from the world – is a starseer, a person fated to escape from the dictatorial prison. After bargaining for a crystal key, an object that shares the image of the eagle on his wrist, he sets out with his companions to overcome Incarceron and break out. This includes journeying with an old Sapient bent on escape, an arrogant oathbrother who seeks power, and a dog-slave girl in disguise. He is Inside. Claudia, daughter to the Warden of Incarceron, is trapped in the Realm – a world constructed to look like a past era. She is confined, like everyone, to live in a timeless earth where advance science and technology has been prohibited. She knows nothing of Incarceron, except that it exists, but when she breaks into her father’s study and steals a crystal key, everything changes. She is Outside. Their lives, once twisted in the past, are to inevitable collide again. (Wiki)

This year, Twi-hards are heading to stores to buy DVDs rather than filling movie theaters. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, the third movie in the series based on Stephenie Meyer’s novels, which was released in June 2010, is now out on DVD and Blu-ray.

The Film

The tagline for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse is, “It all begins … with a choice.” And, in essence, that’s true. But I think it’s more about Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) coming to terms with the choices she’s already made. At the end of The Twilight Saga: New Moon, Bella asks best friend (and werewolf) Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner) not to make her choose between him and her vampire boyfriend Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) because “it’s always been him (Edward).” In the last scene, Edward makes a proposal of his own, and that’s where Eclipse picks up. Part of Bella’s choice is answering that proposal. She and Edward eventually come to a compromise. Bella and Jacob come to a compromise of their own, as well. He declares his love for her and forces her into admitting her own feelings for him. But, as she tells him, she knows it won’t change anything.

A more pressing concern for all three – and their respective families – is the army of newborn vampires who are coming after Bella. Victoria (Bryce Dallas Howard) created and organized the army with the help of Riley (Xavier Samuel) and is using them for revenge against Edward for killing her mate, James. They’re causing chaos in Seattle, and the Cullens and the werewolves band together to protect Bella and stop the newborns.

As a fan of this series, I appreciate the way director David Slade translated this book to film. He kept all of the important aspects of the novel while mixing it up enough to keep those who’ve read it several times guessing. But what I like most about Slade’s version is that he made it his own, giving it his own look and feel, but also made it a perfect combination of the first two movies. There are several nods to the previous films fans will pick up on, from the large cross and display of graduation caps in the Cullen house from the first movie to the look of the Volturi and the menacing, screeching sound of Jane’s (Dakota Fanning) power from the second one. Even the coloring references the first two movies. Scenes with the Cullens are bathed in the blue tones of Twilight, and scenes with Jacob and the wolves have the same rich, warm, earthy neutral browns and greens of The Twilight Saga: New Moon. The cinematography is excellent.

The DVD

Audio/Video: The audio and video are comparable to the theatrical release. The colors and visuals are crisp and clear, as is the sound.

Commentaries: There are two commentary tracks on the two-disc DVD version and the DVD/Blu-ray combo – one with Pattinson and Stewart and one with Meyer and producer Wyck Godrey. If you’re a fan of Stewart or Pattinson, their commentary is a must-watch. It is a hilarious insight into the two actors and their take on the movie. The track with Meyer and Godfrey provides an interesting look into not only how the movie was made from Godfrey, but also how Meyer perceives her characters.

Special Features: The special features include the commentaries as well as deleted and extended scenes, a six-part “making of” documentary, a photo gallery and music videos from Metric and Muse. The deleted and extended scenes are fantastic. There are a couple of them taken out of the movie that fans of the book will appreciate. The documentary is also worth watching. It fuses together behind-the-scenes footage from all three movies into an interesting look at some of the characters and goes through the pre- and post-production of Eclipse.

But my favorite of the special features are the “jump to …” options, otherwise known as the Edward Fast Forward and Jacob Fast Forward. Basically, these allow you to watch the entire movie – but only the scenes Pattinson or Lautner, respectively, are in. That way, Team Edward doesn’t have to put up with Jacob scenes … or vice versa, depending on your loyalties. (That leaves Team Switzerland to watch the whole thing!)

The DVD release of The Twilight Saga: New Moon had fans in a bit of a frenzy because different retailers offered different special features. With the Eclipse DVD, there are fewer options – the single-disc DVD, the single-disc Blu-ray, the two-disc special edition DVD and the Blue-ray/DVD combo. Some retailers are offering special packaging, but the special features will be the same on all the editions that offer them.

Conclusion: For me, this is the best of the Twilight series. Give it a try. You might be surprised by what you find.

The Flick: Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars

The DVD: Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars

And translating those words onto the big screen took a great deal of work by director David Slade, producer Wyck Godfrey and screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg to bring it together.

“It’s the most mature book, and I think we went for the most mature film. Certainly there’s a great deal of romance in the film, but there’s also other themes. Vengeance is a very big theme in the film. Our action sequences all are built out of character, so they’re not just effects. They’re actually built out of a need to get to a place. I think it’s a film for everyone, this one,” Slade said at a press conference for the film.

Of course, Slade had a ready-made cast with Kristen Stewart as Bella, Robert Pattinson as Edward Cullen and Taylor Lautner as Jacob Black in the lead. In an effort to respect what had been established by the actors in previous movies, Slade met with each of them individually several times to discuss their thoughts on their characters, the script for Eclipse and then his ideas for the movie. Then, the actors came together for ensemble rehearsals. With the characterizations established through the individual meetings, Slade said when they came together for group rehearsals, they were able to focus on content.

“That was, I think, the most respectful way, and that’s how I chose to go about it,” he said.

As far as that content is concerned, Rosenberg says it was the most challenging of the books, so far, to translate into a screenplay.

“It took me by surprise; I actually thought this would be the easiest because there’s so much conflict in it and you have this huge battle that you’re building toward. But once I got into it and actually breaking the story, I realized all that happened in the third act. So, then it was looking at what’s going on in the first two acts … what I found was that a lot of the threat that is in the third act, that’s building the conflict, pulling that forward,” she said. “It ended up being … fun to write in the end, after I got over the incredible disappointment that it wasn’t going to be easy. As if anything ever is!”

Despite having a different director for each of the first three films, Slade said that continuity among the movies was important.

“I was given a great deal of freedom in terms of the aesthetics,” he said. “I was given freedom only just to respect what had come before, really. There were no mandates.”

Godfrey added, “One of the chief reasons we hired David was for his visual style and that it was different from the first two films. Something we’ve always wanted is each director to bring his own visual style to the film.”

Those elements the cast and crew filmed that didn’t make it into the final cut of the film might have a second life on the DVD.

“I think, with any film, you go through the process of kind of editing it down to its fighting weight and ultimately you’re going to end up with some scenes that didn’t end up in the movie,” Godfrey said. “I think there’s going to be a lot of the kind of classic, behind-the-scenes stuff. You’ll get to see how we did most of the action and the stunts in the movie and a lot of the CG process. All of that stuff I think will flesh out the experience for audiences that do like to go behind the camera and see how it’s all done.”

For many, actress Kristen Stewart has become synonymous with Bella Swan, the main character in Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight saga and the movies that have been made of the books. It’s a role that has thrust her under an intense spotlight, not only bringing attention from countless fans, but also from the media, and it’s one that she takes seriously.

“This is a unique situation. I get to play her for a really long time, and that also is a serious indulgence and something that’s really lucky because I feel really sad when I lose a character at the end of a short shoot, which typically is six weeks on a small movie, which is what I’m used to,” she said at a press conference for Eclipse. “It definitely is obviously the one role that has put me in this sort of epic position, but it’s just another movie, and I think it doesn’t matter if you’re doing a studio movie or if you’re doing an independent movie, when you get to the set and you’re doing a scene, it’s always going to be the same job. I really don’t think about my career in terms of planning it out and what this does for me. This was a part I really wanted to play, and luckily I got to do it for a long time.”

At this point, after playing her for three films, few people know the character of Bella Swan better than Kristen Stewart. She seems to understand Bella’s faults and applauds her ability to recognize her mistakes.

“All of the things that sort of annoy me about her are things that I like about her because she always sort of comes around and realizes that she can be a little selfish. She’s definitely not naggy, but because she tries so hard not to be, sometimes I feel like, ‘Why don’t you just let yourself be.’ Sometimes she picks on herself too much. But I completely relate to that,” Stewart said. “I always say my favorite thing about her is that she screws up a lot and doesn’t care. It’s just like, ‘This is the way life is, and I’m young, and I’m growing up.’”

In Eclipse, in particular, Bella makes important decisions about her life, and Stewart gladly took on that challenge.

“She’s pushed to the point where the decision needs to be made in this one, but she does that in each movie. And what’s cool is that things change, and as certain as she is sometimes and as absolutely gung-ho and young and courageous and brave, she’s also willing to take a step back and go, ‘OK, I’m going to reconsider my options and reconsider how I’m treating everybody’ because she acknowledges that she’s being a little bit selfish. She makes the choice, but I feel like the choice has been made as soon as she sees him in the first one. It’s done. But it’s hard for her to get to the point where everyone is going to accept that, and this the one that it sort of happens in.”

Fans of Meyer’s books want to see every aspect of the stories on the big screen. But that’s difficult with books that are, in the case of Eclipse, 600-plus pages. Aspects of the plot are cut out or shifted for the sake of telling the story in movie form. Like those fans, there are things in the books Stewart wishes had made it to the screen.

“There are a million things,” she said. “Every single time we watch one the movies, especially if some of the cast watches it together, it’s always an incredibly frustrating experience. That’s why I’m glad Breaking Dawn is going to be two movies. So there’s going to be less of that. There’s going to be less of having to lose stuff.”

Now that Eclipse is in theaters, Stewart is looking forward to what’s next for her character in the upcoming films of Breaking Dawn.

“I can’t wait to see Renesmee. I can’t wait to have a kid and get married. All of it. It’s going to be crazy,” she said. “She’s going to be the coolest vampire out of all of them. I mean, she’s got the greatest power. Nothing can touch her, and she can literally protect the whole clan. I think it will be awesome to see how much she’s changed from Twilight. She’s a 17-year-old kid who really doesn’t care about a whole lot other than herself and to see her become this sort of matriarch will just be really cool.”
