Trailer for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 next month

Whichever way you view The Twilight Saga, there’s only one more film left to go until the series is finished. Lionsgate has now announced the frist trailer for Bill Condon’s The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 will be released next month in front of The Hunger Games on March 23rd. Surprised? You really shouldn’t be as it seems like an obvious move after Summit Entertainment and Lionsgate merged. “We’re very excited about the opportunities created by our recent acquisition of Summit Entertainment. The February 11 home entertainment release of ‘Twilight Saga Breaking Dawn 1,’ the March 23 theatrical release of ‘Hunger Games’ and the November 16 theatrical release of ‘Twilight Saga Breaking Dawn 2′ lead a strong combined slate that we believe will enable us to deliver increased consistency, profitability and value to our shareholders,” Lionsgate Chief Executive Officer Jon Feltheimer said.

RED 2 has a release date; Step Up 4 gets a new date

After the success of RED, Summit began work on a sequel. Collider is now reporting that Summit Entertainment has set RED 2 for release on August 2nd, 2013. Jon and Erich Hoeber are penning the script to the film, “which reunites our team of retired CIA operatives as they use their old-school style to take on a new set of enemies all across Europe.” No word yet on what cast members will be returning.

Meanwhile, Summit Entertainment has moved up Step Up 4 from its August 2012 release date to July 27th, 2012. That puts the film a week after Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, which could spell doom for the film.

Justin Lin not directing Highlander remake

Fans likely already created a mob against Summit Entertainment for pitching the idea of remaking the cult-classic Highlander, and fans can now rejoice as the film is without a director. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Justin Lin (Fast Five) has dropped out of the director’s chair. Lin has become busy as of late after the success of Fast Five, and Paramount wants to speed (pun intended) towards another entry in the The Fast And The Furious franchise. Lin has also attached himself to direct Terminator 5, and that could be his follow-up film.

While that may put a small dint in Summit’s plans to remake the 1986 film, the studio is still moving forward quickly on the project. In fact, Summit is wanting the remake to create a new franchise to replace The Twilight Saga after it ends next year. So, you can expect the studio to be looking all over to find Lin’s replacement, but there’s no word yet on who they have in mind.

Darren Aronofsky trying to get Noah’s Ark of the ground

Ever since Aronofsky left The Wolverine for Twentieth Century Fox (here), many have been wondering what the director would be doing next.

We’ve heard rumors that he could be tackling another project for Fox based upon The Book of Exodus (here), but it looks like Aronofsky is trying to get another Biblical tale off the ground. Deadline is reporting that Aronofsky is shopping around his take on Noah’s Ark to several studios including Paramount, Twentieth Century Fox, and Summit Entertainement. We’ve known this is a passion project for Aronofsky (here), and after the disappointment of his leaving The Wolverine, he maybe eager to finally make a big-budget film.

A script for the film already exits, but is being rewritten by John Logan. The film is looking to be a dark re-telling of the book.

Scott Speer will Step Up for his first film

While Jon Chu is busy getting G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes ready for it’s August 2012 release (here), Summit Entertainment has set Scott Speer (The LXD: The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers) to direct Step Up 4Ever, the fourth installment in the Dance series (via Deadline). Wade Robson was originally going to direct the film, but had to drop due to “personal reasons”, and wouldn’t be able to meet the Summer start date. Like Step Up 3D, this film will be released in 3D. The film will be set “in the backdrop of Miami”, but there’s no other details on the script written by Jenny Mayer.

Step Up 4Ever is slated for a 2012 release.

Our first look at Bella’s wedding dress?

Author Stephenie Meyer will release The Twilight Saga: The Official Illustrated Guide on Tuesday April 12th, and it will feature a look at Bella Swan’s (Kristen Stewart in the films) wedding dress for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn (via Movieweb). But what’s uncertain is whether or not this look will be used to create the same dress for the movie version of the film due out on November 18th.

Hop is #1 at the box-office

Easter may still be twenty days away, but that didn’t stop Universal’s Hop from taking the number 1 spot at the box-office. The Easter-themed film starring James Marden, Kaley Cuoco, and the voice of Russel Brand took in $38,118,000 during it’s first weekend. Summit Entertainment’s Source Code debuted in second with $15,053,000. The other film that opened this weekend was Film District’s Insidious, which came in third place with $13,496,000.

While at Cinemacon, Collider was able to get a photo for a promo poster for Bill Condon’s The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part I. The film stars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, Anna Kendrick, Ashley Greene, Michael Sheen, and Dakota Fanning.

Breaking Dawn resumes production next month

It seems that snowstorms and tsunamis were to only things keeping Bella (Kristen Stewart) and Edward (Robert Pattinson) from tying the knot. Production on Bill Condon’s The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 was postponed due to extreme weather conditions, but Movie Web is hearing that production will continue the first week of April. There’s only four weeks left of production, and Condon will be shooting the wedding of Bella and Edward when it resumes. The delay has not changed released dates for either film.

Part I of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn is scheduled for November 18th. Part II, on November 16, 2012.

Yep, a movie on the BP Oil Spill

The oil spill that occurred for three months in the Gulf of Mexico on April 20, 2010 was one of the worst disasters that occurred in our environment. The explosion killed 11 workers, injured 17 others, and released 205.8 million gallons of oil into the Gulf of Mexico. And that makes for a great movie in Hollywood.

Deadline Hollywood is reporting that Summit Entertainment, Participant Media ,and Imagenation Studios are planning to make a film on the BP Oil Spill. They will be using an article written by The New York Times’ David Barstow, David Rohde and Stephanie Saul, called Deepwater Horizon’s Final Hour, as the bases for their film. Matthew Sand (Ninja Assassin) will pen the script, with Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Transformers trilogy) producing. No other details on the film are known at this moment.

Today is Valentine’s Day, and Summit Entertainment has released (via Coming Soon) another official image from Bill Condon’s The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn. The image gives fans there first look at Isle Esme. For those how haven’t read the books, Isle Esme is where Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) and Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) spend their honeymoon.

Bella gets a new step-father in Breaking Dawn

While the principal cast for Bill Condon’s The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn will remain the same, Bella’s step-father will be different. Many of the Twihards may remember Bella’s step-father in Twilight, who was briefly seen when Bella (Kristen Stewart) was leaving her mother’s house, and was played by Matt Bushell. He will be returning for the final entry in the film series, but played by a new actor.

Ecranlarge (via Cinema Blend) has been told by Summit Entertainment that Ty Olsson has been offered the role in Breaking Dawn. Olsson has made appearances in a few films such as X2: X-men United, The Chronicles of Riddick, and Clash of the Titans (2010), but fans of Eureka will recognize him as the robot Sheriff Deputy Andy. Olsson has yet to land the role, and you most likely won’t be seeing much of him. Bella’s step-father only appears in the final book during the wedding between Edward (Robert Pattinson) and Bella.
