The new trailer for Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-man is now online (via Coming Soon). The film that opens on July 3rd stars Andrew Garfield, Rhys Ifans, Emma Stone, and Dennis Leary.

With every upcoming movie, we always see some unique fan posters by fans. Some of them are good, some not soo much. However, Sony decided to do something different with Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, they let fans submit their fan-made posters. Justin P. of Islip, New York did just that, and was chosed out of other entries. Check out the awesome poster he came up with below:

Will Fincher be too busy for Dragon Tattoo sequels?

Anyone who knows me knows that I was excited to hear that Sony is moving forward with the sequels to David Fincher’s The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo remake (here). But the biggest question was whether or not Fincher would be returning to direct both The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet’s Nest. After all, it was Fincher’s style that was one of the many appealing aspects of the film, and it would be a shame for him not to return.

Well, Sony is wanting to shoot the sequel by the end of this year/beginning of next. However, sources have told The Playlist that Fincher is looking to begin production of his adaptation of Jules Verne’s 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea this Fall, or by the end of the year. Obviously that would interfer with Sony’s plan to have The Girl Who Played With Fire in theaters by Christmas 2013. Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig are contracted to return for both films, but Fincher isn’t. And there were also some reports that Fincher and Sony clashed over the running time of Dragon Tattoo. And since this film wasn’t a big success, Sony could want to make more demands that could sway Fincher to not return. Hopefully that doesn’t happen, but it’s a good possibility.

Official: Sony planning Dragon Tattoo sequels

We heard recently that Sony was adamant about adapting The Gilr Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet’s Nest despite Fincher’s remake underperforming (here). Well, Deadline is hearing that production on the second book is planned to begin around the end of this year/beginning of 2013. Steve Zaillian, who penned Dragon Tattoo, is also penning the second films, but it’s still unknown if Fincher will return. However, I think fans would agree that Fincher’s style added to the remake, and was one of the aspects that made the film soo great.

One thing that Zillian is also doing is making Lisbeth Salander (Rooney Mara) the center of the film. She’s fairly absent from the novel, but the sequel(s) will revolve around her more as did Fincher’s remake. Makes sense as Salander is obviously the most interesting character of them all, and Mara has already been confirmed to be attached for the second and third films.

Sony has released two more new images from Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-man opening on July 3rd. There’s nothing really exciting about these images, but it does give us another look at Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy and Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-man.

The Girl Who Played With Fire moving forward

David Finsher’s The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo remake may not have had a strong opening, but the film is still doing rather well at the box-office. But it was thought by many that Sony would be thinking twice about remaking The Girl Who Played With Fire, but fans shouldn’t worry. Sony told Entertainment Weekly that “[Dragon Tattoo] continues to do strong business and nothing has changed with respect to development of the next book.” It’s uknown if David Fincher will return for the sequel, but we can only hope he does. After all, his style was one of the reasons Dragon Tattoo was so amazing, in my opinion. However, that would mean that Sony would have to invest in both the second and third book (here).

Could Dragon Tattoo sequels shoot back to back?

David Fincher’s remake of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo will be released Tuesday night, and that can mean only one thing, sequel talk. We’ve already heard that Sony is pushing to adapt The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet’s Nest, but it’s uknown if Fincher will return. However, Fincher did mention in an interview (via Colider) that he would shoot both films back to back if he returned. “Yes, the second two books are very much one story and it doesn’t seem prudent to me to go to Sweden for a year. Come back for a year. Put out the second one. Go to Sweden for a year. Come back for a year. I don’t think Rooney wants to be doing this four years from now. So I think that would be crazy especially given the sense that it’s really one story that’s kind of bifurcated in the middle,” he said.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is likely to be a big hit for Sony, and they would want to move forward on the sequels quickly. However, Collider also spoke with Screenwriter Steve Zaillian, and has yet to begin writting the sequel. According to Zaillian, it would take him about six months to pen a draft, and that it would probably take them until late-2012 to start production.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo opens a day early

Those who are anticipating David Fincher’s remake of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo are in luck today as Columbia Pictures has announced (via Coming Soon) the film will open a day early on December 20th. With the film opening on Christmas weekend, the studio is hoping to earn as much money as possible by giving the film an extended weekend. This same thing was done for all three of Michael Bay’s Transformers films, and several other films.

Evil Dead set for April 2013

Everyday fans are reminded of the ugly truth: Fede Alvarez is remaking Evil Dead whether they like it or not. Filming is set to begin next March, and Shock Til You Drop is reporting that Sony has set the film for release on April 12, 2013. There has yet to be any casting announcements just yet, but we should expect to hear some within the four months.

Starship Troopers reboot in the works

Despite Shinji Aramaki making Starship Troopers: Invasion next year, it looks as though Starship Troopers will be the latest franchise to get the reboot treatment. Vulture has learned that Ashley Edward Miller and Zack Stentz (Thor, X-Men: First Class) have been hired to script a reboot of Starship Troopers. Nothing is known about the direction of the new film, but hopefully it can bring the franchise back from obscurity. Paul Verhoeven’s original film was science fiction fun at its best, but the sequels were less than thrilling.

Assassin’s Creed film announced

We’ve been hearing that a film adaptation of Assassin’s Creed was coming (here), and Variety is now reporting that Sony has acquired the film rights from Ubisoft. This puts Sony on top of the game when it comes to adaptating video-games to movies. They already have the Resident Evil franchise (well, that’s Screen Gems, which is a part of Columbia Pictures, which is part of Sony), Devil May Cry, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and Infamous in the works.

It’s unknown when the film will begin moving forward, but no director or writer has been hired just yet. However, with the high popularity of the games, Sony may want to move fast on this property.

Animated Starship Troopers film announced

We’ve heard rumors about another entry in the Starship Troopers franchise would be coming (here), and Sony Pictures has announced (via Anime New Network) that an all-new CG animated film is in the works, titled Starship Troopers Invasion. The film will be directed by Shinji Aramaki (Appleseed, Halo: Legends), and is set to be released next summer. There’s no word if the film will take place in the same universe as the live-action films, but Edward Neumeier and Casper Van Dien will be executive producers of the film.

Here’s details on the plot: “A distant Federation outpost Fort Casey comes under attack by bugs. The team on the fast attack ship Alesia is assigned to help the Starship John A. Warden stationed in Fort Casey evacuate along with the survivors and bring military intelligence safely back to Earth. Carl Jenkins, now ministry of Paranormal Warfare, takes the starship on a clandestine mission before its rendezvous with the Alesia and goes missing in the nebula. Now, the battle-hardened troopers are charged with a rescue mission that may lead to a much more sinister consequence than they ever could have imagined….”

Sony wanting to cash-in on the death of Steve Jobs

The death of Steve Jobs was one that hit many hard as he’s revolutionized the computer, mobile phone, and music industry. And with his death still in the minds of people right now, Sony is wanting to cash-in on this moment by optioning a film adaptation of the novel Steve Jobs, according to Deadline. The book’s release date has even been pushed up a whole month. It’s rather sad studios feel the need to cash-in on a celebrity’s death, but Sony already has a track record of making good adaptations with The Social Network and most recently with Moneyball.

Sony moving forward with their own Zorro reboot

While Twentieth Century Fox is developing a post-apocalyptic version of Zorro (here), Sony is also trying to cash-in on the character. Deadline is reporting that Matthew Federman & Stephen Scaia have been hired to reboot the franchise. It’s not intended to be a remake of Martin Campbell’s take on the character, which starred Antonio Baderas and Catherine Zeta Jones. This new film will be an origin tale based upon Isabel Allende’s 2005 novel.
