The True Blood star recently screen-tested for the lead role in Marvel’s Thor, which went to Chris Hemsworth. But according to The Heat Vision Blog, Skarsgard is signed to play opposite of Taylor Kitsch in Peter Berg’s Battleship.

Battleship will be the first studio film that Skarsgard has been attached to since joining HBO’s True Blood. The Swedish actor will portray Taylor Kitsch ”straight and narrow” naval officer brother. The film will be an adaptation of the popular Hasbro game, but with a sci-fi angle. The script is being written by Jon and Erich Hoeber, and will feature an international fleet doing battle with an alien armada.

Peter Berg will be directing and producing the film with Sarah Aubrey, along with Hasbro’s Brian Goldner, Bennett Schneir and Scott Stuber. Jeffrey Kirschenbaum and Anikah McLaren will be overseeing production for Universal studios.

Sorry, there still is not much going around of their being a True Lies 2 movie, for those who are strangely craving it. Movieline got the quick scoop straight from the actor’s mouth, making him the newest addition to the cast within the past couple of days for the Peter Berg directed explosion of a film.

Taylor Kitsch is already attached to play the lead in the script put together by Jon and Erich Hoeber. The film revolves around a fleet of ships is forced to do battle with an armada of unknown origins in order to discover and thwart their destructive goals. Scott Stuber, Brian Goldner, Sarah Aubrey, Bennett Schneir and Berg will all be producing the picture expected to be released on May 25th, 2012.

The story revolves around the young housesitter of a CIA-run safe house. The housesitter must help a criminal who’s being hidden there as they flee to another secure facility when the first house is destroyed by villains who want the witness dead (Variety). The picture will be produced by Scott Stuber, who’s attached to several other projects which include The Wolfman, Battleship, Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World and Repo Men.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past two weeks, this weekend Universal Pictures revitalizes their monster movie franchise with the Joe Johnston directed feature The Wolfman. Also coming out under their seemingly endless slate of films is Green Zone and Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood.

This feature, under Universal Pictures, tells the story of a band of samurai swordsmen who avenge the death of their master in 18th century Japan (Variety). The film will be produced by Pam Abdy and Scott Stuber under Stuber Pictures with Chris Morgan penning the script. Morgan’s previous written work includes Fast and Furious, the fourth film to the illegal race car driving franchise.

Rinsch, believe it or not, was previously in talks to direct the prequel to the Ridley Scott film Alien for awhile. No word yet on when exactly this particular picture is going to start up production.
