Robin Hood makes it count in new clip

That’s the thought that’s in my head with the new clip presented by Yahoo! Movies of Ridley Scott’s latest film Robin Hood. If Iron Man 2 is kick-starting the summer season of comic book movies, then Robin Hood in my opinion is doing the same for action films despite the time period.

Russell Crowe stars as “Robin Hood”, the film chronicling the life of the expert archer, previously interested only in self-preservation, from his service in King Richard’s army against the French. Upon Richard’s death, Robin travels to Nottingham, a town suffering from the corruption of a despotic sheriff and crippling taxation, where he falls for the spirited widow Lady Marion, a woman skeptical of the identity and motivations of this crusader from the forest. Hoping to earn the hand of Maid Marion and salvage the village, Robin assembles a gang whose lethal mercenary skills are matched only by its appetite for life. Together, they begin preying on the indulgent upper class to correct injustices under the sheriff.

Robin Hood includes the talents of Cate Blanchett, Matthew Macfadyen, Danny Huston, William Hurt, Mark Strong and Oscar Isaac. The picture under Scott Free Productions, Relativity Media and Imagine Entertainment is shooting out into theaters from Universal Pictures on May 14th.:

Potsdamer Platz wrangles in three

At least that’s what I’m sure director Tony Scott hopes will happen with his latest feature Potsdamer Platz as the likes of Mickey Rourke, Javier Bardem and Jason Statham circle around the flick. The drama, written by Buddy Giovinazzo, is about two soldiers in a New Jersey-based crime family who try to expand internationally (Deadline). Although Giovinazzo originally penned the script, it has gone through several revisions in the hands of Louis Mellis and David Scinto.

For those of you who do not remember, Tony Scott has directed several other films which include The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3, Man on Fire and Deja Vu. He also does his fair share of producing under his Scott Free banner, especially on upcoming films like Cyrus, Welcome to the Rileys and the upcoming summer picture The A-Team.

You can see all three of these actors appear on the big screen in their own separate films this summer. With Mickey Rourke, you can see him duke it out against Robert Downey Jr. in the Marvel Studios feature Iron Man 2. Jason Statham is blasting away in the new Sylvester Stallone action bonanza The Expendables and Javier Bardem is part of the cast for the upcoming drama Eat Pray Love.

Sony & Apparition want the Rileys

The Jake Scott directed film Welcome to the Rileys finally landed itself a domestic distribution deal as Apparition and Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group teamed up to scoop up the feature, says Variety. The film will be released sometime this fall with the help of Apparition. Welcome to the Rileys stars James Gandolfini as a damaged man, while making a business trip to New Orleans, who ends up seeking salvation by caring for a wayward young woman (Kristen Stewart). The feature also stars Melissa Leo from the script penned by Ken Hixon.

The picture is backed by Scott Free Productions, which includes Tony and Ridley Scott producing, with Argonaut Pictures. This is Scott’s latest feature length directed film, prying him away from his music video credits, next to his 1999 picture Plunkett & Macleane.

Fox takes Peony in Love

The Lisa See novel Peony in Love is getting the adaptation treatment as Fox 2000 throws Erin Cressida Wilson to pen a script for this novel to be put onto the big screen, reports Variety. The tragic tale is set in 17th century China and was published in 2007. Producing the picture is Michael Ellenberg and Michael Costigan under Scott Free Productions along with Giannina Facio.

Peony’s father, a wealthy, cultured man with important political contacts, is planning a performance of The Peony Pavilion on his estate. This is seen by many as controversial because the opera may influence young women into imitating Liniang, starving themselves to death in hopes of finding love. Unfortunately, this is just what happens to Peony. She is deeply moved by the text and performance of The Peony Pavilion, having extensively written about her feelings and reactions to love in her copy of the text. On the evening of the opera performance, Peony accidentally meets a handsome young man. After four nighttime meetings, Peony falls in love, but she also falls into deep despair, feeling doomed because of being trapped in an arranged marriage.

Cooper and Carnahan looking at Grey

Bradley Cooper and Joe Carnahan are possibly re-teaming for the upcoming flick The Grey. The two recently worked together as Carnahan directed Cooper around in the big screen version of the popular 80s television show The A-Team. The script, penned by Carnahan along with Ian Jeffers, is about survivors of a plane crash who are then hunted by a pack of wolves (Variety). The picture is being produced by Scott Free Productions in addition to Bill Johnson under Inferno Entertainment and Jules Daly.

The A-Team also stars Liam Neeson, Quinton Jackson, Jessica Biel and Sharlto Copley. The story centers on a group of Iraq War veterans looks to clear their name with the U.S. military, who suspect the four men of committing a crime for which they were framed. The A-Team comes blasting out into theaters on June 11th.

First Trailer pops up for Cyrus

When were talking about Cyrus, were not talking about the Disney Channel princess, but rather the upcoming Sundance Film Festival movie Cyrus. From the creative minds of Jay and Mark Duplass comes the story of John (John C. Reily), a guy down on his luck with love until he meets the woman of his dreams in Molly (Marisa Tomei). Everything seems perfectly fine until he discovers that she has a full grown son named Cyrus (Jonah Hill) who seems to not be completely there.

Cyrus also stars Catherine Keener in the picture set under Scott Free Productions and Fox Searchlight. No word yet on when the comedy will be released in theaters, but after watching the trailer from /Film I hope it’s soon.:

Six new images of The A-Team blast in

The A-Team is already shaping up to be one of the most action packed and overall fun popcorn flicks on the summer of 2010. I was just as skeptical as the rest of you, but once I saw that ending scene in the trailer it was hard not to hide my newfound excitement for the feature. Starring the likes of Jessica Biel, Bradley Cooper, Liam Neeson, Sharlto Copley and Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson, the television show turned big screen film is bound to draw in some crowds.

A group of Iraq War veterans looks to clear their name with the U.S. military, who suspect the four men of committing a crime for which they were framed. The feature is directed by Smokin Aces helmer Joe Carnahan and was penned by Michael Brandt.

This is the part where I take back what I said in the previous post about it still being awhile until the trailer is released from /Film for Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood. The film stars Russell Crowe in what seems to be a more bad ass account of Robin Hood and his Merry Men. Do not forget, Robin Hood comes out on May 14th, 2010.:

Scott grabs onto Banerjee

Tony Scott and Scott Free Productions latched onto a biopic on the rise and fall of Chippendales creator Steve Banerjee. Lisa Schrager will be penning the script with Tony Scott, David Permut and Firoz Nadiadwala. Variety has more on the story:

With a tone similar to the Scott-directed “True Romance,” pic will follow the improbable rise and fall of Banerjee, who went from pumping gas in Culver City to running a high-end nightclub that evolved into Chippendales. After hiring a New York choreographer to polish the all-male dance troupe, Banerjee became wildly rich, as well as unreasonably competitive and paranoid. Banerjee hired a hitman to murder the choreographer when negotiations went sour. After being arrested, Banerjee died in jail awaiting trial.

Tony Scott is in the middle of production with the Chris Pine starring feature “Unstoppable” and is in pre-production on the remake of “The Warriors”.

Jolie might Gucci it up

Angelina Jolie is in the middle of negotiations to star in the new Ridley Scott picture “Gucci”. Jolie could possibly play Patrizia Reggiano, who was sentenced to 29 years in jail for plotting the murder of her ex-husband, Maurizio Gucci (Variety). Currently Fox 2000 is in the middle of finding someone to write the script. Fox 2000 and Scott Free Productions are attached to the project. Carla Hacken and Elizabeth Gabler are producing underneath Fox 2000 and Giannina Facio is doing the same under Scott Free.

Jolie just recently wrapped up filming on the action thriller film “Salt” and has been attached to the Spyglass feature “The Tourist”. Ridley Scott is in the middle of post production for the Russell Crowe starring “Robin Hood” and is acting as producer for the feature version of the 1980s television show “The A-Team”.
