The film has gone through some serious casting changes over the last year with Angeline Jolie wanted for the lead role of a woman trying to return home after a space-station is hit. Several Actresses were considered for the role, but Sandra Bullock was finally cast. Robert Downey, Jr. then bailed on the film due to the delays, but George Clooney came on board late-2010.

WB originally wanted Angelina Jolie for the job, but she has since decline the role twice. The studio is now looking at Natalie Portman for the job, but if she doesn’t accept, then there’s one more that’s strongly being considered.

According to Cinema Blend, Sandra Bullock is the studio’s next choice if Portman declines.

Cauron and the studio are at odds of who they want in the role. Cauron’s wants Portman, but WB wants a bigger name to carry the film. The plot will be similar to Cast Away, but set in Outer Space. It’s also reported that the film will be light on the action, but heavy on the special effects. Thus, Warner Bros. wants a big name to sell the film. The film also stars Robert Downey, Jr, but his role in the film won’t require a whole lot of screen-time. Production is scheduled to begin next year.

Of course this includes stars Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock who are re-teaming on the big screen once more. Anne Fletcher with writer Peter Chiarelli and producers Todd Liberman with David Hoberman are part of the this huge re-teaming production as they all combine their creative forces to make Most Wanted.

The story sees Bullock as a criminal suspect with Reynolds as an FBI agent who is supposed to be escorting her to court when the two are ambushed and forced to go on the run (THR). Universal Pictures has their hand on the upcoming action comedy, but no word yet on when filming will begin.

Ryan Reynolds is still in the middle of filming Martin Campbell’s The Green Lantern, DC Comics’ make it or break feature that can put them on the same movie crossover playing field like Marvel if executed properly. The Green Lantern is set to be released on June 17th, 2011.

When the Baltimore Ravens selected Michael Oher in the first round, pick number 23 of the 2009 NFL Draft a few months back, it on paper seemed like another college kid getting a shot in the pros. In recent years, it seems like so many college kids play to get that big NFL salary, as if it’s theirs already, instead of realizing that it is a privilege and not a right, to play professionally. Michael Oher’s story, based on the book The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game, is an impossible story to believe, yet it is a true story. It’s so powerful, and while true stories have been marginalized into “feel good movies” that Hollywood producers love, The Blind Side actually feels genuine from start to finish, even with the film’s flaws.

So much is made in the sports world when a star player commits a crime, that we immediately look at his background on where he came from and who he is. It’s unfair, and a stereotype. It’s so easy to say generalized things about them due to home life, their friends, and yes, because of their race. We’re still that country, whether it is wrong or right, and even in a post-elected Obama era, it is still just the way it is. Oher certainly came from a horrendous upbringing, but strangely this didn’t lead to a violent adolescent. Instead, he became very quite, sweet young man, even though he only had the shirt on his back and nowhere to go.

Newcomer Quinton Aaron perfectly captures Michael Oher, although at first it seems like his a “deer-caught-in-the-headlights” approach is just him being green. Throughout the film, layers start to peel back, revealing a sincere performance. Lots of early buzz has been on Sandra Bullock, and for a lot of people that seems odd. I wouldn’t say she was Oscar worthy (even though she won!), but she really is good, and hopefully, this performance will hopefully lead to more weightier roles, instead of a Miss Congeniality 3. Pairing these two performances together, makes the film shine, despite every attempt of director John Lee Hancock to go the glossy, manipulative route of that Hollywood “feel good movie” archetype. He does at times, and that’s where the film suffers. But for every moment like that, the film realigns due to the sincerity of the actors, and Oher’s real story.

You can’t fake genuine. It’s either there or it isn’t, and despite The Blind Side’s glossy, mainstream approach, Oher’s story will bring anyone to a tear. It’s a real success story, something that should be championed, especially with the recent bits of boneheaded play from coaches and players off-field in the NFL. The Blind Side does fly over some potential to spotlight some of the nastier elements within the story like stereotypes and underlining racism the Tuohy family, as well as, Michael faced. It doesn’t get into the nature of how being an offensive lineman has changed, which was the thesis of the book. These elements undermine a few scenes, namely the opening monologue. Showcasing when Lawrence Taylor broke Joe Theimann’s leg, and then saying how that one play changed the nature of blocking and pass protection in the NFL, we never get a real why. Michael Oher’s story is one we should keep in mind, the next time we want to judge someone. Just because your past was rough and bad, doesn’t automatically condemn a person. A good person, is a good person, where they’re lending a helping hand, or needing a helping hand. If you can get passed the parts of the film that pander to the mainstream, for the sake of accessibility, then you’ll find a solid film.

The Blu-ray:

Audio/Video: Majority of the transfer looks great. There’s some issues in dimly lit scenes and some instances of softness here and there, but the details and colors are the transfer strong points. Warner’s DTS track is really good, even if the film’s sound design isn’t all that creative. Dialogue is clear, sound is appropriate, and enough bass to have a welcoming audio presentation. All in all, WB delivers a solid high-def release for this Oscar nominated film.

The Real Michael Oher: I would have admired this piece more if it was longer and more detailed. Everything here is glossed over in its 10 minutes, and while it’s nice to hear from the mouths of those from the film, it’s borderline EPK. In HD.

Sideline Conversations: More substantial is this, a thorough talk running 33 minutes with Sandra, the real Leigh Anne Tuohy, the director, and the book’s author. Fans of the film will enjoy this, as it’s the disc’s best extra. In HD.

The Story of Big Quinton: This covers the actor playing Michael Oher and his life. Decent and in HD.

Acting Coaches focuses on the SEC coaches who made cameos in the film-all fairly EPK and Additional Scenes that were wisely cut.

Conclusion: Oscar worthy? Not really, but a decent film nonetheless. WB’s Blu is a decent release as well.

The Film: Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

The Blu-ray: Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

The announcement of the 82nd Annual Academy Awards is taking place at 5 AM PST this coming Tuesday, and what better way to get us all into the jovial mood of awards with the recently released nominees for the 2009 Razzies. Giving credit to the best of the worst within this past year, here’s the official statement below from the website.:

Leading the pack among this year’s RAZZIE® contenders are one of the year’s biggest money-makers and the year’s biggest money-loser, each with seven nods. RAZZIE® Repeat Offender Michael Bay helped lead the over-loud, over-long, uber-stupid TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN to a huge box office take…and to a huge haul of RAZZIE® nominations as well. In addition to Worst Director and Worst Picture, the film is up for Worst Remake, Rip-Off or Sequel, Worst Screenplay, Worst Supporting Actress (Julie White as the stoned, screaming mother of Shia Le Bouf), Worst Screen Couple (Le Bouf and EITHER Megan Fox OR Any Transformer) and Worst Actress (Fox again, dually nominated for this film and JENNIFER’S BODY). Keeping up with TRANNIES, TOO in the RAZZIE® race (but decidedly not at the box office) is Last Summer’s Biggest B.O. bomb, LAND OF THE LOST, also with 7 shots at taking home spray-painted gold. LOST star Will Ferrell is listed in both Worst Actor and Worst Screen Couple (Ferrell & Any Co-Star, Creature or “Comic Riff”) and the film itself is also nominated for Worst Picture, Worst Director, Worst Screenplay, Worst Remake, Rip-Off or Sequel and Worst Supporting Actor (the screaching Jorma Taccone as the monkeylike Cha-Ka). Rounding out the Worst Picture list are the Disney dud OLD DOGS, the awful “action-figures-come-to-life” 9-Year-Old-Boy-Movie G.I. JOE: THE RISE OF COBRAand the So-Good-It-Was-Held-Back-from-Release-for-2-Years “comedy” ALL ABOUT STEVE (whose star, Worst Actress nominee Sandra Bullock, could pull off the unprecedented feat of “winning” a RAZZIE® one day before winning an Oscar®).

Other well-known names shamed as being last year’s worst include 2010 Oscar® co-host Steve Martin (Worst Actor for PINK PANTHER 2), Beyonce (Worst Actress for OBSESSED), Worst Actor of the Decade contenders Eddie Murphy (up for Worst Actor of 2009 in IMAGINE THAT) and John Travolta (Worst Actor of 2009 for OLD DOGS) as well as the twitty Dizz-Knee ’tween idols Miley Cyrus (Worst Actress for HANNAH MONTANA: THE MOVIE) and any two or more of the Jonas Brothers, nominated jointly for Worst Actor and Worst Screen Couple — for their documentaryJONAS BROS. A 3-D CONCERT EXPERIENCE. A complete list of nominees is included with this press release.

The Razzies will take place at the Barnsdall Gallery Theatre on Saturday, March 6th at 7:30 PM PST. To check out the full list of nominees, click on the website link above and check them out on the left side scroll.

I wouldn’t say she’s “slumming for an Oscar”, but she really is good, and hopefully, this performance will lead to more weightier roles, instead of a Miss Congeniality 3.

It’s either there or it isn’t, and despite The Blind Side‘s glossy, mainstream approach, Oher’s story will bring anyone to a tear. If you can get passed the parts of the film that pander to the mainstream, for the sake of accessibility, then you’ll find a solid holiday film.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

Sandra Bullock is fine. She has this everywoman sex appeal that’s topped off with a whole lot of hot. I don’t usually enjoy her movies, but I watch them just because I enjoy looking at her. She keeps making romantic comedies, even though I keep wishing she’d decide to make Wild Things 4: Cougars. In The Proposal she looks better than ever, showing off her curves, and finally getting matched up with a leading man worthy of her hotness…Ryan Reynolds.

Bullock plays publishing bigwig, Margaret Tate, a real witch of a woman that jumps at any chance she gets to mistreat her assistant, Andrew Paxton (Ryan Reynolds). Not a single person in her office likes her, she’s a vile human being that cares only for herself. Then one day she is forced to bribe Andrew into marrying her so that she can keep her citizenship and not be sent back to Canada henceforth loosing her job. She follows Andrew home for a weekend getaway in Alaska, where of course the two complete opposites fall madly in love.

CUT TO: cliché after cliché.

I’m not gonna harp on the flick’s problems because even with all the romantic comedy clichés I actually enjoyed the The Proposal. Reynolds and Bullock have a strong chemistry that works in both of their favors, and like I said in the above paragraph, Sandra looks smoking hot in this flick (even in the hideous wedding dress). There are plenty of leading men in Hollywood, but I’m really starting to dig Ryan Reynolds. He takes takes on different types of roles and even when the flicks aren’t so good, he’s good in them.

Overall, The Proposal doesn’t really offer up anything new to the romantic comedy genre, but it wasn’t a complete bust either. I don’t know if I’d call it a killer film, but I’d definitely recommend renting it on date night.

The Blu-ray:

Audio/Video

The 5.1 DTS audio mix is solid. It sounded great on my home theatre and the video, while nothing special is still nice to look it. The landscape footage looks fantastic, but the interior scenes seem a little warm.

Special Features

Commentary: This is a pretty standard commentary track that I found myself wanting to fast forward through only moments after it started.

Deleted Scenes: Nothing special here. Just scenes that were cut because they didn’t really add anything to the finished film.

Set Antics: Outtakes and Other Absurdities From the Proposal: This is a simi-enjoyable mix of footage and excerpts from the set. This was almost cool.

Alternate Ending: A terrible ending that wasn’t used for good reason.

Theatrical Trailer: The prerequisite trailer is on here and for the first time since I started Killer Film, it’s the best thing about the special features.

The Flick: Rating: 2.5 out of 5 stars

The Blu-ray: Rating: 2 out of 5 stars
