Last years remake of Clash of the Titans was met with mediocre reactions, and many probably aren’t expecting much from the sequel Wrath of the Titans. However, Warner Bros. has released (via Apple) the first kick-ass trailer for the film.

A decade after his heroic defeat of the monstrous Kraken, Perseus (Worthington) –the demigod son of Zeus (Neeson)–is attempting to live a quieter life as a village fisherman and the sole parent to his 10-year old son, Helius. Meanwhile, a struggle for supremacy rages between the gods and the Titans. Dangerously weakened by humanity’s lack of devotion, the gods are losing control of the imprisoned Titans and their ferocious leader, Kronos, father of the long-ruling brothers Zeus, Hades (Fiennes) and Poseidon (Danny Huston). The triumvirate had overthrown their powerful father long ago, leaving him to rot in the gloomy abyss of Tartarus, a dungeon that lies deep within the cavernous underworld. Perseus cannot ignore his true calling when Hades, along with Zeus’ godly son, Ares (Edgar Ramirez), switch loyalties and make a deal with Kronos to capture Zeus. The Titans’ strength grows stronger as Zeus’ remaining godly powers are siphoned, and hell is unleashed on earth. Enlisting the help of the warrior Queen Andromeda (Rosamund Pike), Poseidon’s demigod son, Argenor (Toby Kebbell), and fallen god Hephaestus (Bill Nighy), Perseus bravely embarks on a treacherous quest into the underworld to rescue Zeus, overthrow the Titans and save mankind.

Killer Film was sent over the official press release for a new flick called Thunder Run, and it sounds awesome and it has an amazing cast.

LOS ANGELES – October 27, 2011 – Gerard Butler, Sam Worthington and Matthew McConaughey will star in Freedom Films’ upcoming action thriller “Thunder Run” with Simon West set to direct, announced Brian Presley, CEO of Freedom Films, who will produce alongside Carissa Buffel and Kevin Matusow of Freedom Films and Jib Polhemus of The Graphic Film Company. Additional casting will begin in the next week. Hyde Park International has signed on for international sales.

“Thunder Run,” is an all CG 3-D action thriller based on the novel “Thunder Run – The Armored Strike to Capture Baghdad,” by Pulitzer Prize-winning correspondent David Zucchino. Adapting the story for the screen are Academy Award-winner Robert Port and Ken Nolan, screenwriter of “Black Hawk Down.” The Graphic Film Company will utilize proprietary facial-capture technology they used on West’s upcoming “Night of the Living Dead: Origins 3-D” along with the motion capture technology used in “AVATAR.”

“We are very excited to have attracted this outstanding level of acting and writing talent. ‘Thunder Run’ will be the first ever conventional war film made to utilize this revolutionary facial and motion capture technology and state of the art CG and 3D. Simon and I have developed this project over the last five years so it will be nice to see it come alive,” commented Presley.

“Thunder Run” is the untold story of the dangerous and bloody capture of Baghdad by American Forces at the onset of the Iraq War. In April 2003, three battalions and fewer than a thousand men launched a violent thrust of tanks and Bradley Fighting Vehicles into the heart of a city of five million, igniting a three-day blitzkrieg, which military professionals often refer to as a lightning strike, or “thunder run.” In telling the story of the surprise assault on Baghdad- one of the most decisive battles in recent American combat history–this movie paints the harrowing picture of the soldiers on the front lines and the realities of modern warfare.

We haven’t heard much on the follow-up to James Cameron’s second billion dollar hit. But Sam Worthington recently talked about Avatar 2 to Coming Soon.

“I know he’s nutting out like a bible at the moment,” Worthington said, “[It’s] sort of like a precursor of Avatar 1, to just get himself back into the world and the mindset and the characters. Jim’s the person who will tell me when to show up,” he laughed. “I’ve talked to him, he’s told me what his plans for the story are, and it’s huge. It’s just monumental. But he’s not going to start until he raises the bar for himself, and he’s in no rush.”

Currently, the plan is to have Avatar 2 in theaters for December 2013, followed by Avatar 3 in December 2014. Worthington, who’s appearing in The Debt soon and Wrath of the Titans next year, can’t wait. He promises Cameron’s notoriously detailed behind-the-scenes approach will work wonders again.

“That’s how he works – it’s very detailed and very weighty,” he observed. “But the story arc is huge; I needed a break halfway through because I was exhausted. It was insane, but it’s amazing. It’s going to be amazing.”

The R-rated film has a great cast in Helen Mirren, Sam Worthington, Jessica Chastain, Marton Csokas, Jesper Christensen, Ciarán Hinds, and Tom Wilkinson and here’s the trailer:

The espionage thriller begins in 1997, as shocking news reaches retired Mossad secret agents Rachel (Academy Award winner Helen Mirren) and Stefan (two-time Academy Award nominee Tom Wilkinson) about their former colleague David (Ciarán Hinds of Focus’ Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day). All three have been venerated for decades by their country because of the mission that they undertook back in 1966, when the trio (portrayed, respectively, by Jessica Chastain [soon to be seen in The Tree of Life], Marton Csokas [Universal’s upcoming Dream House], and Sam Worthington [Avatar, Clash of the Titans]) tracked down Nazi war criminal Vogel (Jesper Christensen of Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace) in East Berlin. At great risk, and at considerable personal cost, the team’s mission was accomplished – or was it? The suspense builds in and across two different time periods, with startling action and surprising revelations.

The film will see Sam Worthington, Liam Neeson, Gemma Arterton, and Ralph Fiennes reprise their roles from the original 2010 remake. The film will also be presented in 3D, but will be post-converted rather than shot in 3D (here).

The official synopsis: “A decade after his heroic defeat of the monstrous Kraken, Perseus—the demigod son of Zeus—is attempting to live a quieter life as a village fisherman and the sole parent to his 10-year old son, Helius.opens on March 30, 2012.

Meanwhile, a struggle for supremacy rages between the gods and the Titans. Dangerously weakened by humanity’s lack of devotion, the gods are losing control of the imprisoned Titans and their ferocious leader, Kronos, father of the long-ruling brothers Zeus, Hades and Poseidon. The triumvirate had overthrown their powerful father long ago, leaving him to rot in the gloomy abyss of Tartarus, a dungeon that lies deep within the cavernous underworld.

Perseus cannot ignore his true calling when Hades, along with Zeus’ godly son, Ares (Edgar Ramírez), switch loyalty and make a deal with Kronos to capture Zeus. The Titans’ strength grows stronger as Zeus’ remaining godly powers are siphoned, and hell is unleashed on earth.

Enlisting the help of the warrior Queen Andromeda (Rosamund Pike), Poseidon’s demigod son, Argenor (Toby Kebbell), and fallen god Hephaestus (Bill Nighy), Perseus bravely embarks on a treacherous quest into the underworld to rescue Zeus, overthrow the Titans and save mankind.”

Wrath of the Titans opens on March 30, 2012.

It was originally scheduled to be released on March 30 of 2012, but was moved forward a week to March 23 (here). Deadline Hollywood is now reporting the release date has been moved back to March 30, 2012. The film was slated to do battle against The Hunger Games, but it seems that WB backed out. Perhaps it was because of the poor reception for Liebesman’s Battle: Los Angeles? Or maybe to give them another week to work on the post-conversion 3D (here)? Now, he chats with AOL about what could be in store for Avatar 2:

“At the moment, [James Cameron]’s still writing what he calls ‘The Bible’ and detailing the world,” said Worthington in an interview. “Once he’s detailed the world – more so than it’s already detailed in his big brain, anyway – then he said he can write the script and we can go explore the world – things like going underwater…going in the floating mountains.”

Then he talks about his character and Neyriti: “I always joked and said that they were married and Jake Sully got lazy and Neytiri kicked his butt,” he said. “What’s the new dilemma? Is it just humans coming back, or is something even bigger that can threaten them, can threaten the world? We can look at our world again and see that we know we’re hurting the environment, and we know we can do things about it. But what else are we doing that’s wrong so it can reflect on our own life.”

More soon, especially when Cameron finishes the script. Thoughts?

It seems Sam Worthington has some regrets about the film, and makes sure to put the point across the sequel will be much better. He spoke to MovieFone recently and he had the following to say.

“I just think we can improve on it, I think the first one, we kind of let down some people. And yeah, I totally agree. The only point of doing a sequel is either the audience demands it or you believe you can better the first one. What we’re setting out to do with this one (the writers and the director and myself) is improve. I think I can act fucking better, to be honest … Just take all the notes from people that I have been reading about on the ‘net and give them a movie they fucking want. This one I want to kind of try to satisfy a lot more people. I’ve always said you make movies for an audience, that’s who you make movies for. If the audience is speaking, it’s like the old gladiator thing, they give us the thumbs up/thumbs down, you want to stay alive in that coliseum as long as you can.”

The sequel begins filming in March next year, with Sam reprising his role as Perseus.

The sequel, now titled Wrath of the Titans, will be filming soon. Speaking with the Belfast Telegraph, actor Liam Neeson (Zues) revealed that filming is expected to begin next Spring. “We will start next March. I’m very much looking forward to it. It’s a whole revamping, you know,” he said. This would hopefully give them enough time to secure Sam Worthington before he begins work on James Cameron’s Avatar 2, which is expected to begin production late next year.

While many aren’t keen on the idea of a sequel, Neeson promises it will be an improvement over the first film. Although, he does mention that a script has yet to be completed. “I’ve only read half of the script and there is still some work being done – they’re on script 10 – but I think it’s going to be some kick-a** stuff and a very human story to it,” he said. One thing that will definitely be improved over the previous film is that it will be shot in 3D rather than post-converted at the last minute.

Wrath of the Titans is looking to be released in Spring of 2012.
