The story isn’t anything new. Noah is a slacker that got himself kicked out of college, he doesn’t know how to hold down a job, and he gets stuck babysitting a group of miscreant children, so that his mother can go on a double date with their parents. The children turn out to be horrible little maniacs, and Noah decides to take said maniacs out with him to a party so he can bring his fake girlfriend some cocaine. Unexpected things happen and Noah and the kids end up running for their lives from an odd homosexual psychopathic drug dealer.

It was surprising that David Gordon Green took such a mainstream approach with this film. Even with Hill’s filthy mouth and a few dark tonal shifts, the film follows a path every film fan has seen more times than he or she can count. Everyone learns their lesson, and life will never be the same for any of them. However, even with the predictable storyline The Sitter still delivers the funny.

Jonah Hill isn’t my favorite comedian. He isn’t even in my top five, but his brand of sardonic humor fit perfectly next to his young cast-mates. The supporting cast was pretty fantastic as well, especially Max Records (Where the Wild Things Are) and Sam Rockwell, who killed it as an eccentric drug dealer that surrounds himself with oily muscle men. Add to that; extremely competent direction and engaging visuals and you’ve got a decent comedy on your hands.

I’ve been a fan of Green’s work for a long time, and The Sitter is another solid entry in his arsenal of killer films.

The official synopsis: “1873. Arizona Territory. A stranger (Craig) with no memory of his past stumbles into the hard desert town of Absolution. The only hint to his history is a mysterious shackle that encircles one wrist. What he discovers is that the people of Absolution don’t welcome strangers, and nobody makes a move on its streets unless ordered to do so by the iron-fisted Colonel Dolarhyde (Ford). It’s a town that lives in fear.

But Absolution is about to experience fear it can scarcely comprehend as the desolate city is attacked by marauders from the sky. Screaming down with breathtaking velocity and blinding lights to abduct the helpless one by one, these monsters challenge everything the residents have ever known.

Now, the stranger they rejected is their only hope for salvation. As this gunslinger slowly starts to remember who he is and where he’s been, he realizes he holds a secret that could give the town a fighting chance against the alien force. With the help of the elusive traveler Ella (Olivia Wilde), he pulls together a posse comprised of former opponents—townsfolk, Dolarhyde and his boys, outlaws and Apache warriors—all in danger of annihilation. The film centers on an extraterrestrial species lands in Arizona in the mid-1800s. The aliens plan to squash the Wild West and enslave humanity, but thecowboys and native Apache have other plans. Those already part of the cast include Daniel Craig, Olivia Wilde, Harrison Ford, Sam Rockwell, Paul Dano and Noah Ringer.

Principal photography is beginning this summer in time to make their July 29th, 2011 release date from Universal Pictures and DreamWorks SKG. Recently Beach was seen in the lastest season for the hit HBO series Big Love and wrapped up filming his role in Michael F. Sears’ Warrior.

The story, based off the comic created by Scott Mitchell Rosenberg, is set in Silver City, Arizona, where Apache Indians and Western settlers must lay their differences aside when an alien spaceship crash lands in their city. Rockwell will play a bar owner named Doc who joins in the pursuit of the aliens (Heat Vision Blog). Daniel Craig heads the cast that includes Noah Ringer, Olivia Wilde and Harrison Ford.

Cowboys and Aliens is set to begin principal photography this June with a July 29th, 2011 release date from DreamWorks SKG and Universal Pictures. Check out Sam Rockwell as Justin Hammer in the Marvel Studios sequel Iron Man 2 coming out in theaters and IMAX this Friday.

The Jon Farveau directed sequel stars Robert Downey Jr. with other talent that includes Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Mickey Rourke, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson and Sam Rockwell. Enough of that, check out the pictures below.:

Set in 1956, the movie is described as a dark and surprising mystery about an escaped ax-murderer. Kubrick’s son-in-law remembers “Stanley talking about ‘Lunatic.’ He was always saying he wished he knew where it was, because it was such a great idea.”

As always, I’m interested in anything Kubrick has touched. That being said, I’m sure no one wants a repeat of A.I. The plot sounds perfect for Sam Rockwell (‘Wild Bill’ in The Green Mile), and though I’m not a big fan of Johansson (Really? Who doesn’t know who she is), but what the heck. Who knows, if this proves fruitful, maybe Aryan Papers is next.

“You want to be sure you don’t suffer from multi-villainitis,” Favreau said. “That’s been the downfall of many other superhero franchises.”

“I was more concerned about the interpersonal dynamic and how the presence of Natasha [a.k.a. the Black Widow, played by Johansson] would affect Tony and Pepper, because what I didn’t want to do is make this film episodic, like just another episode of a TV series. So one way to approach that is shift the dynamic with the introduction of new characters. So you have Justin Hammer [Rockwell] inserted into the Tony-Rhodey relationship, and you have Natasha Romanoff inserted into the Tony-Pepper relationship. When done right, a superhero movie has the character’s personal life mirroring what’s happening in their superhero world, and sometimes you have to force things to do it. In this case, I’d say, we found an organic way to do it. We wanted both A-story and B-story to be affected by these new characters.”

Favreau didn’t name which franchises he was referring to, but it’s safe to assume he was thinking of Raimi’s Spider-Man 3 and Joel Schumacher’s Batman films. It’s comments like these that show me Jon Favreau knows how to make a good film.
