The Show:

Along with the law, SAMCRO have enemies in their rival gangs, the Mayans, Calaveras, Devil’s Tribe, Grim Bastards, 1-9ers, Nords, the Galindo Cartel, the Lobo Sonora Cartel, the True IRA, the Aryan Brotherhood (ABs), and a white separatist group called the League of American Nationalists (LOAN). Over the first 2 seasons members of each of these gangs, including SAMCRO have been killed. The third season, along with those groups introduce the Irish leg of the Sons called SAMBEL (Sons of Anarchy Belfast).

Season 2 introduced a character by the name of Cameron who is a member of the IRA. SAMCRO is working no a plan to supply him guns, but along the way he feels he’s being betrayed. Because he feels this way, he goes to Jax and Tara’s home and kidnaps their son. Season 2 ends with SAMCRO getting to the docks that Cameron left from too late to catch him. Cameron is heading to Ireland.

Season 3 has the group looking for Cameron and they decide to head to Ireland. Gemma, who was in the hospital in season 2 after being raped and assaulted by a rival gang getting back at Clay and Jax and the rest of the gang. She leaves the hospital and visits her father who is is dying. She is also on the run from the police after assaulting a women who causes Jax to cheat on Tara. After coming back form her father’s, Gemma is arrested, but shortly after is able to flee with some of the members to Ireland to find Cameron and Jax’s son.

Tara is left behind so she doesn’t miss work. She and her boss are taken hostage by a member of a rival gang who was kicked out after trying to show up the head of his gang during a truce with the Sons. Hector Salazar is the member in question and he wants to humiliate Jax for calling him out. Only problem is that Jax, Clay, Gemma and others are over seas. The remaining members have to do what they can to get Tara and her boss out safe.

Over in Ireland SAMCRO meets up with SAMBEL to find Cameron and Jax’s son. There is so much that happens during this season and it really is worth checking out. The action is fast, the twists and turns are coming at a mile a minute, but don’t feel forced at all. There is so much going on but it’s easy to follow. You have the Tara story, the Ireland story, The FBI is looking for the Sons due to gun running. When all is said and done and the Sons are back home, the end of the season is one of the greatest endings that’s ever been put on TV. There is a huge twist as Jax has been planning to turn himself and the Sons in to save the group and his family. Gemma is falsely accused of murder and she is wanted as well. This season is considered by many Sons fans as being a weaker season, but when your first 2 seasons are almost flawless, that’s not saying much.

The DVD:

Season 3 to Season 4 Story-Bridge Scenes: There were about 6 scenes that helped to explain some of the things that happened after season 3 and before season 4. They were less than a minute each and nothing really important happens here. Not really a must see, but they are kind of cool.

Writers Roundtable: This was by far the coolest extra. Kurt Sutter, creator and Executive Producer, as well as an actor on the show, along with members of the writing staff, answer Twitter questions from fans.

Bike Customizer: Not really needed, but an interesting watch. Sutter has one bike shop he gets the bikes for the show from. He asks them to create, from the ground up, a bike for a charity event. This really has nothing to do with the show other than Kurt Sutter asked them to do this. It’s like watching an episode of American Choppers.

Directing the Finale with Kurt Sutter: An interview with Sutter about directing the season finale. This was cool and had a lot of information about the show and episode.

“NS” Table Read with Cast: A table read of the season finale. Unlike the table read on the Modern Family disc which was done in front of fans, this was the cast and crew. It was very boring.

Gag-Reel: These can be very hit or miss. Some stuff was funny, some wasn’t. Not a must see.

Deleted Scenes: Scenes are deleted for a reason. Don’t seek the DVD/Blu-Ray out just for these.

Cast and Crew Commentary: Various episodes had commentary from Sutter and some of the cast. Nothing great, but it had some insight and interesting stories.

Fox Movie Channel Presents World Premier – Sons of Anarchy Season 3: This was a red carpet event for the season debut. Nothing great. Had a few interviews, but you won’t lose sleep over missing it.

Verdict: This is one of the best written, best acted shows on TV. It keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire time and you never know what’s going to happen. It set is worth owning for the show, but not for the extras. Nothing really sticks out, extras wise, as something you need to see.

The new version will not only modernize and CW-up the love story but also add a procedural twist. Nice pedigree, too: Without a Trace vet Jennifer Levin and Brothers & Sisters‘ Sherri Cooper will pen the script and serve as executive producers.

The original show ran from 1987 to 1990. I guess with their popular Vampire Diaries and The Secret Circle, CW is getting back into the supernatural. Still no explaination as to why they canceled Angel.

Does this really need to be redone?

Ryan Gosling stars as a Los Angeles wheelman for hire, stunt driving for movie productions by day and steering getaway vehicles for armed heists by night. Though a loner by nature, Driver can’t help falling in love with his beautiful neighbor Irene (Carey Mulligan), a vulnerable young mother dragged into a dangerous underworld by the return of her ex-convict husband Standard (Oscar Isaac).

After a heist intended to pay off Standard’s protection money spins unpredictably out of control, Driver finds himself driving defense for the girl he loves, tailgated by a syndicate of deadly serious criminals (Albert Brooks and Ron Perlman). But when he realizes that the gangsters are after more than the bag of cash in his trunk-that they’re coming straight for Irene and her son-Driver is forced to shift gears and go on offense.

Ron Perlman also stars. Drive in in theaters September 16th.

The story of a a young man who has spent his life searching for revenge only to find himself up against a bigger challenge than he originally bargained for.

Ha! How traditional. Early word coming from festival have not been to kind, but we all will find out soon on September 30th. Guy Moshe directs. Thoughts?

On his path of wanton adventure and women, Conan chances upon the warlord responsible for his tribe’s destruction. As he tracks Khalar Zym, Conan battles monsters, Zym’s henchmen, and Marique, a powerful witch.

Conan the Barbarian 3D opens August 19th, 2012.

However, Del Toro and Actor Ron Perlman spoke at Comic-con (via The Playlist), and did give fans some hope for the film. ”’Hellboy 2’ was tough. Both of us walked away from that a little bit, ‘Do I ever want to revisit this?’ But then with the luxury of time and looking at it in an objectified way… We were beat up at the end of it… He always looked at it as a trilogy and there were things that were unresolved. So for us to not make it would be letting down people who invested in the first two. It’s epic what he wants to do, but it would be cinematic and well worth doing,” Perlman said.

Everyone has been aware of how much Del Toro has loved the franchise, and after having At The Mountains of Madness fall apart (here), he may be more inclined to revisit this franchise.  “I only do things that I truly love. If I control the property, I hold onto it for decades. I carried ‘Hellboy’ for almost 8 years. ‘Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark’ was 13 years. I’ll hold onto it for as long as I can,” he said. However, Del Toro also notes that Hellboy 3 will be the most difficult of the three to make. “Each of those movies has been an incredible ordeal to make. The third one is the hardest one because it’s the darkest one… And if it’s not Ron, I don’t want to make it. The third one is epic, it’s gigantic,” he said. Hopefully, the film will get made. If not sooner, then maybe later.

I can roast a bad flick with the best of them, but when thirty-year old losers attack his personal appearance from their laptop in their mommy’s basement, it reeks of buffoons who have no life. To go after his hair extensions or wig, or whatever it is that he places on top of his head is absurd and childish. The man can wipe his ass with one hundred dollar bills the rest of his life, when most citizens are living from paycheck to paycheck. Not everyone looks good with a chrome dome like Bruce Willis and I. Sheesh, what the hell got into me? Time to get off my soapbox and review the flippin’ film already.

Genre vet Ron Perlman chats with Killer Film about the film, his role of Felson, Nic Cage, and of course, Guillermo del Toro. Read on!

Jon Peters: I assume the script came to you in late 2008, early 2009. What was it that got you excited to sign on to play Felson?

Ron Perlman: Well, before the script even was delivered to my door, it was referred to as the Nic Cage movie with Dominic Sena directing. It had to be really, really awful for me to say no to. There was no “no” to it, really, since you can’t say that to those two. Nic is such an original, with a body of work of masterpieces that are boundless. Dominic is a super filmmaker ever since he done Kalifornia, I was a fan. So I opened it up to read it, to see what they wanted me to do, which was to play [Felson] Nic Cage’s best pal shoulder-to-shoulder for the entire film. It seemed too good to be true, which is that it was. So I signed on with a huge amount of enthusiasm.

Jon: I read in a recent interview you did that you called Nic Cage “a generous actor”. Can you elaborate on that more?

Ron Perlman: I think that was said for my appreciation for him. I was a huge fan boy and then act next and share oxygen to him, was amazing. He has this unabashed innocence in his work, along with his dedication, that’s great. He really adores making movies, so there’s such an energy force that radiates from him that’s infectious. He’s just really positive; he’s the first one on the set, last one to leave. He’s amazingly generous to those working with and around him, and understands when it’s someone else’s moment, and makes sure they shine. It’s a pleasure to witness to love for the work. He engages you to take your game up a notch or two, you know?

Jon: Well, with both of your long careers is an exact opposite of newcomer Claire Foy, who plays the Girl/the Witch. You two are use to greenscreens and the harsh weather and working conditions, and it must have been hard for her to carry the film, due to her role. How was it working with Claire?

Ron Perlman: Claire brings a lot to the party. She doesn’t give off that she’s new to this. She’s an old soul, even though she’s early 20s, with real wisdom, sharp intellect, sophistication. She has an amazing ability to be in deep focus on what she’s doing, which trumps the difficulties with the weather or locations. She’s just gifted.

Jon: Well, with those environments in which you filmed in, I believe in Croatia and the Austrian Alps, you’ve worked in films that call for harsh conditions. Even later this year with Conan the Barbarian and Scorpion King 3, does it get any easier film after film, or is it still a bitch working in harsh weather conditions?

Ron Perlman: It seems like we’re always shooting these movies in the the dead of winter. (laughs) I think that’s probably how the remote quality of the location with the actor’s breathe in the cold. You can’t replace that. Or when you’re fighting on real mud, in snow or rain as your filming, that makes for a reality that can’t be created otherwise. It never gets easier. I don’t bring baggage from the set conditions of other gigs. I keep it fresh, from film to film, like the first time, every time. There’s experience, sure, but leave it in the trailer.

Jon: I’m always looking in genre films for a film to offer me something more than the their conventions and thrills, and a film about the Black Plague comes at an interesting, maybe curious time since a few days ago (here) in Arkansas, birds and fish have mysteriously died…

Ron Perlman: Yeah, I’ve been watching that and they still don’t know why.

Jon: That’s what is fun about the Season of the Witch and its timing for a January release. As a genre vet, what keeps you excited to constantly be working in genre films like fantasy and horror?

Ron Perlman: I’m not ever going to be in a movie, like a genre film, that doesn’t have some sort of gravitas. I felt like the backdrop to Season of the Witch in the Crusades, isn’t one of the brightest times for the Catholic Church, and there’s things being done that are being built as one thing, but are something else. So there’s a possibility of all Hell breaking loose and we have modern day equivalence to that. This story you mentioned about the birds dying, they still haven’t came up with anything conclusive to why it was caused, and here it is the 21st Century.

Mysterious happenings are universal. Take tsunamis for example: where the f*ck those come from? For me, the supernatural elements that are unleashed spring out of something that’s corrupting the Earth at that time and it allows for a reality for when something fantastical happens. I’ll never do a straight up scary movie that doesn’t have some basis in reality to juxtaposed it against.

Jon: A lot of fans are getting excited for your umpteenth collaboration with Guillermo del Toro in At the Mountains of Madness, especially since Hellboy 3 isn’t really going to happen anytime soon (here). What’s the attraction for your guys’ continued work together, making you guys a genre equivalent to Scorsese/De Niro?

Ron Perlman: I never thought I’d be mentioned in the same sentence as Scorsese and De Niro, so I thank you for that. It’s a thrill. We became fast friends on Cronos (out now on Criterion Collection Blu-ray/DVD; here), that has superseded our work. We truly enjoy each other’s company and he truly understands me as an actor, my heart and how I move through the universal, unlike any other director. It’s allowed for my resurgence in this last decade of my career, that’s indescribable and humbling. I thank God that I met Guillermo del Toro, since these last 10 years has been my best years as an actor.

We have a great time on-set together, that allows for me to be creative and offer ideas. The shorthand has allowed him to focus on other stuff and to make his movie. I don’t throw around genius, but Guillermo is. It’s an honor to work with him.

Season of the Witch opens January 7th.

He continues: “And also, we have to find out about the Hellboy destiny. It’s written in stone that he’s going to destroy mankind. That’s what he’s been brought to Earth to do. So the whole dialogue between nurture and nature gets to live itself out in the third Hellboy movie. But if there’s no third one, then the audience doesn’t get to see any of that.”

Ron Perlman can be seen Friday in Season of the Witch, followed by Conan the Barbarian. Guillermo is involved with too many projects to be named. Thoughts?

A 14th century Crusader returns to a homeland devastated by the Black Plague. It’s unknown why they decided to go with the same title of the 1982 classic starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Although, one could assume that it was done as to not alienate the fans of the original film. Jason Momoa (Stargate Atlantis) will be filling in the role of Conan, with Stephen Lang, Rose McGowan, and Ron Perlman c0-starring.
