It seems fans’ hope for an Evil Dead 4 will never come to pass as Sam Raimi revealed plans to remake the film seven years ago. Nothing has been heard about the film since then, and many were hoping the idea was scrapped. However, Producer Robert Tapert has told Freep that plans for a remake are still underway. “It’s possible; we’re looking at a script this month. What’s interesting about ‘Evil Dead’ is very few people saw it in the format we made it for, which is for the theater. … I think Sam wants to embrace the ultimate experience in grueling terror and see it remade for a proper theatrical experience,” he said. Unfortunately, this means that Bruce Campbell will never again get to play Ash on the big screen once more.

Sam Raimi became quite the topic of conversation last week when the plug was pulled on the upcoming Sony Pictures feature Spider-Man 4. Since he was part of the comic book franchise boat anymore, plenty of fans were hoping that he’d finally get cracking on making Evil Dead IV.

Raimi has been giving out updates on how production is coming along with the impending World of Warcraft movie for awhile, reports Coming Soon. He’s already dished out that writer Robert Rodat, who’s works include Saving Private Ryan, would be penning the script for the popular role playing series.

Now the entire project might be in limbo, especially due to what’s happened with Spider-Man 4. Producer Robert Tapert dished out the latest on the project.:

“It’s in development,” Tapert said. “We’re in the outline/story/script phase.”

“I don’t want to speak on Sam’s behalf, because the ‘Spider-Man’ thing happened so recently,” added Tapert. “I think he’s getting his feet under him and trying to decide. He might want to do a teeny, tiny small film, but I don’t know what he wants to do. I know he had a great time doing ‘Drag Me to Hell.’”

A small film? Could the whole debacle of Spider-Man 4 finally kick-start Raimi into finally going back to his beloved Evil Dead series? What do you think, and even more so do you think Raimi should go crazy and finally make Evil Dead IV?

Horror fans now have something more to look forward to with news that Sam Raimi’s classic horror film “The Evil Dead” will be making its way back to theaters. The film premiered back in 1981 to rave reviews including from such famed horror celebrities as Stephen King and Tom Savini. Now it’s being re-released for a special run by Grindhouse Releasing, though no official dates have been given. Below is the press release received through BloodyDisgusting:

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. – Grindhouse Releasing is bringing Sam Raimi’s original horror classic THE EVIL DEAD back to the big screen as a midnight movie.

Raimi and producers Robert Tapert and Bruce Campbell gave the go-ahead for a series of EVIL DEAD revival screenings to Grindhouse Releasing partner Bob Murawski, the film editor of Raimi’s SPIDER MAN 1, 2 & 3, DRAG ME TO HELL and the EVIL DEAD sequel ARMY OF DARKNESS. The tour will take place across North America in 2010.

Stephen King hailed THE EVIL DEAD as “the most ferociously original film of the year” when the film premiered in 1981. Shot in Michigan and Tennessee, Raimi’s low-budget debut was released independently with a self-imposed ‘No One Under 17′ rating for its graphic violence and gore.

THE EVIL DEAD launched Raimi and Tapert’s careers and made star Bruce Campbell a cult movie icon, spawning two hit sequels: EVIL DEAD 2: DEAD BY DAWN and ARMY OF DARKNESS. The EVIL DEAD trilogy has become a fan phenomenon, ranked among the most popular and acclaimed cult horror movies of all time.

A special screening of the EVIL DEAD trilogy sold out L.A.’s New Beverly Cinema this summer.

With a remake reportedly in the works, this theatrical release gives fans a chance to experience the original as it was intended to be seen.

“Nothing can prepare an audience for what they are about to see, because nothing punishes an audience like EVIL DEAD – especially on the big screen,” says Bruce Campbell. “I’m really glad it’s back. People are gonna be hurt.”

Formed by actor/director Sage Stallone and Murawski, Grindhouse Releasing restores and distributes classic horror and exploitation films. The company teamed with Quentin Tarantino in the ’90s to revive Lucio Fulci’s Italian horror classic THE BEYOND.

A similar theatrical break is planned for THE EVIL DEAD, with midnight screenings in select theaters in the U.S. and Canada. According to David Szulkin, head of theatrical distribution for Grindhouse Releasing, the Landmark Theaters chain will play the movie in several cities.

Dates and venues will be announced at GrindhouseReleasing.com. For bookings, contact David Szulkin at info@grindhousereleasing.com.
