Rob Marshall could still direct Pirates 5

While Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides was big success for Disney earning over $1 billion at the box-office, reaction from fans and critics wasn’t good at all. Since then, Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has been busy getting the fifth instalment in the franchise right, and even hired Terry Rossio to rewrite the film (here). Director Rob Marshal told The Hollywood Reporter that he’s also waiting for whether or not he’ll get a call to direct the film again:

“Terry [Rossio] is writing it and he’s working incredibly hard and he did a draft and rethought it all and started working on it again. You want to make sure you are asking the audience to come back to see an exciting adventure and it has to reach that caliber, and if not there’s no reason to do it. I know Johnny feels the same way: He needs to see a script, but he would be happy — if it’s the right script — to put that hat and sword back on.”

It seems the studio wants to get this one done right. I have yet to see On Stranger Tides, but the second and third instalments were enough for me to keep me from getting interested in continuing the franchise.

The first clip from Rob Marshall’s Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides has come online (via Yahoo Movies). The clip features Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) fighting off soldiers of the Royal Navy and Admiral Hector Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush).

Jerry Bruckheimer talks Pirates 4

While the first Pirates of the Caribbean was a surprise hit for Disney, the sequels were panned by fans and critics. One of the reasons for that was because many didn’t like how the story for Dead Man’s Chest was continued in At World’s End. With Pirates 5 already being written (here) and rumor that Pirates 5 and 6 will be shot simultaneously (here), many feared the new trilogy would go that same route. However, Producer Jerry Bruckheimer spoke with USA Today, and put those fears to rest. But it still remains to be seen if a fifth film will ever get moving, but it’s a safe bet given the popularity of this series.

Walt Disney Pictures has released (via Movie Web) three more images from Rob Marshall’s Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides. The images give us another look at Geoffrey Rush as Admiral Barbossa, and Ian McShane as Blackbeard.

With the release date for Rob Marshall’s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides getting closer, we’ve been seeing a number of images from the upcoming film (here). Hero Complex has yet another new image from the film that gives us a better look at Ian McShane as the notorious Blackbeard. The character is just one obstacle standing between Jack Sparrow’s (Johnny Depp) quest to find the Fountain of Youth. The film will be released in 3D, and this new image really shows the studio wants us to see that effect.

Terry Rossio sets sail with Pirates 5

It seems that Disney isn’t waiting to see how Rob Marshall’s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides performs at the box-office to green-light another sequel. Deadline Hollywood reports that Terry Rossio, who co-wrote Pirates 1-4, will once again script the fifth installment in the franchise. However, he’ll be sailing alone this time as his accomplice, Ted Elliot, won’t return. Disney is also looking to get Rob Marshall back to direct the film, with a Johnny Depp keen on returning (here).

Disney has released (via Yahoo Movies) the first trailer for Rob Marshall’s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. The film stars Johnny Depp, Ian McShane, Penelope Cruz, and Geoffry Rush.

Pirates 4 trailer to come sooner than expected

Filming on Rob Marshall’s Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides is officially wrapped(here), and now it’s only a matter of time before we see a trailer. We’ve already heard a teaser will be attached to Tron: Legacy on December 17, but it will find it’s way online a few days before that. Walt Disney Pictures has announced (via Coming Soon) the trailer will come online on December 13, less than 2 weeks from now.

The film sees the return of Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp), Hector Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), with new comers Penelope Cruze and Ian McShane as Blackbeard. The film continues where the At World’s End left off with Sparrow and Barbossa in search of The Fountain of Youth. The film is loosely based of novel On Stranger Tides.

Argghhh! Pirates 4 wraps up filming

On his Twitter, producer Jerry Bruckheimer has revealed that filming on Rob Marshall’s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tideshas officially wrapped. Production began in late-June, and continued for a total of five months. That could give us clear indication about how much CG the film will require. Bruckheimer also confirms that a teaser trailer will be shown in front of Tron: Legacy on December 17.

The film sees the return of Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp), Hector Barbossa (Geoffry Rush), and Joshamee Gibbs (Kevin Mcnally) as they search for the Fountain of Youth. They’re pursued on their journey by Blackbeard (Ian McShane) and his daughter Angelica (Penelope Cruz). The film takes the name of Tim Power’s novel, but is loosely based off it.

First look at Blackbeard in Pirates 4

Production on Rob Marshall’s Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides is currently underway. The crew has moved on from Hawaii and is now back in Los Angeles where Johnny Depp (Jack Sparrow) and Penelope Cruz were spotted. One other cast member was also spotted on set, Ian McShane. The actor will be portraying the film’s new villain, Blackbeard, and will be captain of the Queen Anne’s Revenge (via Pop Sugar).

This film will see Captain Jack Sparrow and Captain Barbossa in search of the Fountain of Youth. It’s uncertain what role Blackbeard will have in their search.

Early contenders to direct Wicked

It seems Maleficent isn’t the only villain getting her own movie. Universal Studios is planning adapt the Broadway musical spin-off to The Wizard of Oz. The pieces are finally starting to come together on the project. So much that Producer Marc Platt, the musical’s book writer Winnie Holzman and songwriter Stephen Schwartz have been meeting and seeing interest from potential directors.

According to The Playlist, James Mangold, J.J. Abrams, Rob Marshall, and Ryan Murphy have shown early interest in directing the film. Wicked was a Broadway musical based on the novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire. The book re-imagines the Wicked Witch of the West in high school as she’s demonized by Glinda, the Good Witch.

The musical was a big hit and jump started Idina Menzel and Kristen Chenoweth into film. There’s no word if either of them will star in the movie version. This is one of three projects based on The Wizard of Oz. Walt Disney currently has Oz, The Great and Powerful in development as well as a re-telling of the original film.
