Nero explains to Box Office Magazine: “We have already been signed by a dozen people who will be part of project. Among the filmmakers involved include Quentin Tarantino, Keith Carradine, Treat Williams, fifteen people in all. Americans who want to do this movie and so we are trying to produce it outside of Italy.

“I said ‘Quentin, we are going to do a western. It would be an homage to Sergio Leone and John Huston, the director that discovered me, and would you be so kind to play a cameo?’ And he said, ‘Oh yeah! What do I have to do?’ I said, actually there are three bandits, and I have to kill them all, and he said, ‘oh, great, so I can come with Robert Rodriguez and my friends to play them.’ I said, yeah! That would be great! He said, ‘But how are you going to kill me?’ I said, I’ll tell you—with a shotgun, and inside, instead of having bullets, it will be gold coins. He said, ‘I love it!’”

This is the first we’ve heard on this, and it sounds pretty cool. If you haven’t checked out Django, the original 1966 film, do so on Blue Underground’s amazing Blu-ray for it. It’s worth your time.

Oddly, QT hasn’t come out and said hardly anything about the film, but it’s scheduled for a Christmas 2012 release. Thoughts?

Weinstein Co. is banking on the huge success of Tarantino’s last film, Inglourious Basterds, for this holiday push. It’s an interesting release date, but remember his Jackie Brown was release around this time a decade ago, too.

There’s a rumor floating around that QT has Leo DiCaprio as his villain, playing Calvin Candie, according to Jeff Goldsmith of Creative Screenwriting on his Twitter: “Casting Rumor: Leonardo DiCaprio WILL play villian Calvin Candie in Tarantino’s Django Unchained! QT wanted him for I.B. & now has him!”

Rumors are just that, as the one for Will Smith playing Django in the film (here). Until QT comes out and says something, these rumors are fun, even with a few grains of salt. Although QT wanted DiCaprio for Inglourious Basterds…

The first bit of casting seems to have placed Inglourious Basterds’ Christoph Waltz as Dr. King Schultz, and apparently QT is aiming for the Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Will Smith, according to Variety.

Good. Personally to me, Smith is slumming in crap like MIB 3 for next year. Can you imagine Parents Just Don’t Understand rewritten by QT? Soon…

Knowing Tarantino, this is his movie reference to the spaghetti western classic from 1966 called Django starring Franco Nero, who’s rumored to co-star along with Uma Thurman and Christoph Waltz. If you haven’t got around to watching that film, you should. It’s not as great as what Sergio Leone was doing at the time, but it’s pretty wicked. This is its plot: “A coffin-dragging gunslinger enters a town caught between two feuding factions, the KKK and a gang of Mexican Bandits, and is caught up in a struggle against them.”

Django went on to spawn a slew of in-title only sequels, so maybe Tarantino’s in a homage to that. We’ll find out soon, I’m sure. Fans should remember the fun sort of prequel that Takashi Miike directed a few years back called Sukiyaki Western Django, which featured a small role from…Quentin Tarantino.

Sounds sweet huh? Well Beaks over at AICN decided to do some research! He concluded that it does appear a Spaghetti Western looks to be his next film, which will likely shoot in Italy and Spain later this year. Christoph Waltz will apparently be in the film, however he couldn’t find any other news of Nero, Williams and Carradine being attached but it doesn’t mean it wont happen. And the title isn’t exactly what Nero said it was.

You can bet we’ll hear more about this! Tarantino will surely talk as he likes to do.

Russell Crowe has signed on to co-star with Wu-Tang founder, the RZA, is The Man With the Iron Fist.  RZA will play a weapons-making village blacksmith in feudal China—and as for Crowe, RZA doesn’t want to say too much. “I won’t spoil it for you, but Russell’s gonna be the baddest man alive,” he told reporters yesterday at the VMAs.

Although RZA has acted in films like  American Gangster this will be his directorial and writing debut.  He had help developing this project by Quentin Tarantino and Eli Roth, with Eli Roth now a co-writer and co-producer.

In an interview from 2008, Eli Roth stated, ” The martial arts movie will be heavily influenced by the work of Quentin Tarantino, and feature lots and lots of blood. RZA’s script is amazing. He has been studying directing with Tarantino for years, and he’s really ready to get behind the camera. His impact on rap music and hip hop culture cannot be measured, and he’s ready to add his own unique style and vision to the world of film.”
