Point Break getting a remake

While you could argue that The Fast and The Furious was pretty much a remake of Point Break, it looks as though Alcon Entertainment will be remaking the film anyway (via Coming Soon). The remake will be set in the ”world of international extreme sports, and like the original involves an undercover FBI agent infiltrating a criminal ring, but plot points beyond that have not been revealed by the filmmakers.” The project is being fast tracked, and is looking to go out to directors soon.

Point Break remake from Equilibrium’s director?

Consider this a rumor that will probably be debunk sooner than later, but Twitch is reporting that they heard from a source that Kurt Wimmer, who directed Christian Bale in Equilibrium and wrote the screenplay for Salt, has written the remake script for Point Break.

The film has been on the remake block for a while, but nothing conclusive has come from the idea. A Keanu Reeves-less sequel was planned with Patrick Swayze until his death. There’s little to this so far so there’s no announced star or director, and if true, would be interesting to see how they’d approach this camp classic today.

Cheech and Chong Meet Tron!

As promised, Mean Magazine’s Cinemash delivered on Cheech and Chong’s Tron Cinemash today. Unlike the Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s Sid and Nancy Cinemash last week, this one takes the notorious Cheech and Chong and is merely a look at what seems to be a normal conversation between the two about something near and dear to them.

Ok, maybe it’s not a normal conversation, and it’s definitely not expected of the two – Well, unless you’re Kevin Smith – but it’s got Tron in it! Next week promises Reno 911! and Human Giant give the Cinemash treatment to Point Break.

This little project has gotten pretty neat. Hopefully the cats at Mean Magazine can keep this going for a little bit.

Amazing new trailer for Kathryn Bigelows The Hurt Locker!!

With a release date not yet announced a new trailer has been surfaced for Kathryn Bigelows The Hurt Locker and it is by far its best yet! The film has been receiving wide acclaim and accolades for months now in the festival circuit as well as top acting award nominations at this past years independent spirit awards. The film is a rough and harrowing film on the Iraq war which is said by many to be the best Iraq film yet, and one of the better action films in recent years.

With Kathryn Bigelow at the helm though the reviews are hardly surprising as she is an under rated director of such jems as Near Dark, Strange Days and Point Break. Bigelow, is one of the better action directors around and you can view the latest trailer to The Hurt Locker HERE in Hi-Res.
