Two more join Resident Evil: Retribution

While all we’ve been hearing about the cast of Paul WS. Anderson’s Resident Evil: Retribution was that several old characters would be returning (here, here, here, here, and here). Well, Deadline is reporting that Johann Urb and Kevin Durand have joined the cast as the first newcomers. The only details on the roles is that Urb will be playing “leader of the Resistance, who teams with Jovovich’s Alice character as she battles the Umbrella Corporation and the swarm of undead.” Not much, but it may hint that he’s been cast as Leon Kennedy.

Resident Evil: Retribution will open in September of 2012.

The first trailer for Paul W.S. Anderson’s sequel didn’t do much for me, but the newest retina flashfire preview has me all giddy with excitement. Arrow in the Head has the trailer courtesy of G4′s Attack of the Show.

Don’t take my word for it, look for yourself and you’ll see what I mean. Nothing says “Look at how cool we’ll be in 3D” than by gun blasting and foot swinging in the first official poster for Paul W.S. Anderson’s Resident Evil: Afterlife. The film, written by Anderson is produced by him along with Jeremy Bolt, Don Carmody, Robert Kulzer, Bernd Eichinger.

Milla Jovovich reprises her role as Alice in the creepy and bloody video game adapted franchise. This time she continues on her journey to find survivors and lead them to safety. Her deadly battle with the Umbrella Corporation reaches new heights, but Alice gets some unexpected help from an old friend. A new lead that promises a safe haven from the Undead takes them to Los Angeles, but when they arrive the city is overrun by thousands of Undead – and Alice and her comrades are about to step into a deadly trap.

The cast also includes the talents of Ali Larter, Wentworth Miller and Sienna Guillory. Resident Evil: Afterlife blasts into theaters, and is presented in 3D, everywhere on September 10th from Screen Gems. It’s time to fight off the undead for the fourth time as the video game turned feature film franchise Resident Evil: Afterlife bursts back out on the scene with three new photos. Now we’ll finally get a better look at Claire (Ali Larter) and Chris Redfield (Wentworth Miller) along with the typical gun-welding shot of Alice (Milla Jovovich), who for the billionth time does not exist in the video game version of this universe.

Bloom and Corden swing into The Three Musketeers

James Corden and Orlando Bloom add onto the cast of Paul W.S. Anderson’s The Three Musketeers. They are the latest additions of a cast that includes Ray Stevenson, Matthew Macfadyen, Luke Evans, Mads Mikkelsen, Logan Lerman, Milla Jovovich, Christoph Waltz and Juno Temple. Anderson and Andrew Davies collaborated on the script being produced by Robert Kulzer, Jeremy Bolt and Anderson.

Bloom will play the Duke of Buckingham while British comedian Corden will portray the servant Planchet (Variety). Initial filming is slated to begin this September with a 2011 release date from Summit Entertainment. Impact Pictures and Constantin Films are attached to the project, set to bow in 3-D on it’s release.

Corden will be appearing in the upcoming Jack Black picture Gulliver’s Travels, making it’s way into theaters this December 22nd. Bloom wrapped up production on The Good Doctor and is attached to the upcoming Rodrigo García directed feature Albert Nobbs.

Temple going to royalty in The Three Musketeers

Actress Juno Temple is in the middle of talks to go and take on the role of the queen in the upcoming Paul W.S. Anderson film The Three Musketeers, says The Hollywood Reporter. This third dimension version of the tale includes the talents of Milla Jovovich, Luke Evans, Ray Stevenson, Logan Lerman, Matthew Macfadyen, Mads Mikkelsen and Christoph Waltz.

Filming is slated to start in September with a summer 2011 release date locked in for the Summit Entertainment picture. Producing the picture is Paul W.S. Anderson, Jeremy Bolt from Impact Pictures and Robert Kulzer from Constantin Films.

There is also another version of The Three Musketeers in development with Doug Liman attached to direct, but since pre-production is going slower than this film, you can bet that this one will come out in theaters first.

Anderson’s 3D Musketeers goes to Summit

Paul W.S. Anderson’s version of The Three Musketeers got scooped up for U.S. distribution today by Summit Entertainment. The 3D version of the tale includes the talents of Ray Stevenson, Luke Evans, Matthew Macfadyen, Milla Jovovich and Christoph Waltz. The feature is based off the novel by Alexandre Dumas and is being written for the big screen by Anderson and Andrew Davies. Continue reading on to find out more on this sudden deal (via THR).:

“We recognize the blockbuster potential of ‘The Three Musketeers,’ so summer 2011 is the ideal window,” said Constantin exec Martin Moskowicz, who will have an executive producing credit on the film. “It means we have to start filming a month earlier than planned, but we are ready to shoot.

If you may or may not know, this is not the only Three Musketeers movie in development. Doug Liman is directing another version of the popular tale for Warner Bros Pictures, so now it’s merely a race to the final cut.

Resident Evil: Afterlife goes to IMAX

Sony Pictures’ Resident Evil: Afterlife is making it’s way into IMAX theaters this September in a sudden and random move from both companies today. Prior to it’s release, now the Paul W.S. Anderson film must be converted for IMAX screens since it’s original format was not intended for such theaters. Here’s what the president of distribution for Sony had to say on the subject.:

“In 3D, fans of ‘Resident Evil’ will have a whole new way to enjoy this next exciting chapter, and we’re delighted that audiences will also have the opportunity to experience the film in Imax 3D at digital Imax locations, where they will feel like they are virtually in the movie,” Rory Bruer, president of worldwide distribution at Sony Pictures Releasing, said in a statement (THR).

Resident Evil: Afterlife stars Milla Jovovich once more as Alice along with a cast that includes Ali Larter and Wentworth Miller.

Resident Evil: Afterlife is set to be released in theaters and IMAX 3D on September 10th from Screen Gems.

Anderson’s Three Musketeers gets a cast

We say “Anderson”, but you all are wondering which one we are referring to. It’s none other than Paul W.S. Anderson who is in the middle of pre-production on a Three Musketeers feature. Despite what you might be thinking, this is not the same one that we reported on earlier that has Doug Liman attached, but rather is one being handled by Summit Entertainment. Anderson will be directing the story, set to be released in 3-D, from a script written by himself and Andrew Davies.

Logan Lerman, Luke Evans, Matthew Macfadyen, Ray Stevenson, Milla Jovovich, Christoph Waltz, Mads Mikkelsen and possibly Orlando Bloom are all part of the large cast. Heat Vision Blog gives us more on who’s playing what.:

Logan Lerman is in negotiations to play D’Artagnan, a young man who leaves home to become a member of the fighting force of the French king’s royal household. Ray Stevenson (“The Book of Eli”), Luke Evans (“Clash of the Titans”) and Matthew Macfadyen (“Robin Hood”) have been cast as three of the force’s best and most disgraced members: Porthos, Athos and Aramis, respectively, whose creed of friendship is “All for one and one for all!”

Rounding out the cast as villains are Academy Award winner Christoph Waltz as Cardinal Richelieu and Mads Mikkelsen as Rochefort. Anderson’s real-life wife, Milla Jovovich, has been cast as Milady de Winter, a former love of Athos who is described as “17th century Bond girl.” An offer is out to Orlando Bloom to play nemesis the Duke of Buckingham.

Paul W.S. Anderson takes on Buck Rogers

The notorious Paul W.S. Anderson sinks his teeth into another project, this time deep within the realms of science fiction as he signs on to direct a live action feature of Buck Rogers. The Resident Evil director is already positioned to take the reigns of the picture, already expected to be shown off in over-done 3D.

Buck Rogers is the classic tale of a fighter pilot who quickly acclimates to the future and puts his skills to use defending the planet against invaders (Deadline New York). The property originated in 1928, created by Philip Francis Nowlan in the comic Amazing Stories. Ever since then, the character blossomed in popularity, eventually spawning off to not only get more comics, but Buck Rogers gained more notice on radio, film and television.

Financing the picture is Paradox Entertainment with Matt Holloway and Art Marcum penning the script. The two are best known for their written credits on Punisher: War Zone and Iron Man.

Latest on Death Race 2

There’s quite a couple of huge updates when it comes to the prequel to the 2008 Paul W.S. Anderson directed film Death Race 2, the first of them being new casting. Heat Vision Blog reports that Sean Bean is co-starring with Luke Goss in the film. Already included into the cast is Danny Trejo and Ving Rhames with Roel Reine directing.

Adding along with that news, Death Race 2 is already started up principal photography on February 13th in South Africa. The story takes place in the very near future, as the United States economy begins to decline and violent crime starts to spiral out of control. To contain the growing criminal population, a vast network of for-profit, private prisons springs up, creating a lawless subculture ruled by gangs, cold-blooded killers and sociopaths. The worst of these prisons is the Terminal Island.

Convicted cop-killer Carl Lucas (Luke Goss) arrives on the Island to serve his life sentence just as ruthlessly ambitious television personality September Jones launches the ultimate reality show, Death Race. A brutal prison yard demolition derby that pits prisoners against each other in steel reinforced, heavily armed vehicles, Death Race offers the winner the ultimate prize: freedom — if he can survive to enjoy it. When Lucas signs up to be a driver, the stage is set for the birth of a legendary racer.

Death Race 2 has no specific release date at the moment, but will be coming out under Universal Studios Home Entertainment Productions on DVD/Blu-Ray.

Resident Evil: Afterlife gets bumped back

Paul W.S. Anderson’s fourth installment of the video game adapted series is getting two weeks pushed forward in it’s release month of September for this year. The reasoning behind this is MGM’s own collision with itself on the big screen. If Resident Evil: Afterlife were to be released on September 24th of this year, it would have coincided with the release of Cabin in the Woods, another MGM horror property.

Another reason why Resident Evil: Afterlife is going to be shown on September 10th as well is due to the 3D that’s coming into play with the latest feature. If the two were to be released on the same weekend, that would be forcing them to split digital 3D screens, reports ShockTillYouDrop. Milla Jovovich comes back in the fourth film reprising her role as Alice along with talent such as Ali Larter, Wentworth Miller and others.
