Walking into Waska

A couple of actors are making their way into the independent drama Waska. Kate Walsh and Jeremy Piven are joining up on the Gaby Dellal directed picture. Walsh and Piven both join up on the big cast that includes Thomas Dekker, Mira Sorvino, Elizabeth McGovern, Joseph Morgan and Lynn Collens. Story centers on a young father who loses his son, throwing the community into disarray at the time of Waska — the first snowfall of the year, which is magical but often treacherous (Variety).

Filming is currently underway with a possible late 2010 to early 2011 release date. Walsh will be appearing in the fantasy thriller Legion that will be out January 22nd. Jeremy Piven is going back into the voice acting chair as he lends it to the animation and live action hybrid film Marmaduke. If Jeremy Piven is possibly headlining so-to-speak this comedy this reporter really won’t expect much from this one trick pony of an actor.

Criterion to release Cronos and Mimic: Director’s Cut

There was talk about this happening earlier this year, and according to Guillermo del Toro himself, they are going to be released by Criterion. Expect both to be definitive releases with a plethora of supplemental features.

“Cronos is evolving nicely,” says Del Toro. “We are including a NEVER-SEEN-BEFORE version of Geometria (1987) the short that I made for 1 thousand bucks and that I was never able to finish the way I wanted it. NOW I re-finished it for this disc (don’t worry, no CGI or fancy stuff) and I like it- I never did before- but now I do.”

“Cronos has never looked so beautiful,” continues Del Toro. “And we found dozens of photographs of the making of the device, etc.”

“Mimic is looking fabulous,” he says. “Some of the negative had been lost but we found alternatives and are finishing the Director’s Cut. VERY HAPPY!!”

Woody Allen nabs a Slumdog

Now the absolutely beautiful star, from the Oscar winning Slumdog Millionaire, has an extra reason to be happy, as Woody Allen has cast the beauty in his next untitled film! This bodes very well for the actress, as though she got virtually no major acting recognition outside of the SAG awards, Allen does have a habit of nabbing his ladies Oscar gold, if not just a nomination. Just ask Penelope Cruz, Maureen Stapleton, Geraldine Page, Jennifer Tilly, Judy Davis, Mariel Hemingway, Diane Keaton, Samantha Morton, Mira Sorvino, and Dianne Wiest got 2 Oscars in 2 separate films by Woody!

This news comes just as it was also announced that both Josh Brolin and Sir Anthony Hopkins have also been attached to star in the auteur’s next project. No plot details or even title have been revealed for the film as of yet, but stay tuned here for additional information as it is released!
