Stallone won’t direct The Expendables 2

While there’s no word on when The Expendables 2 will get off the ground now that Stallone has been attached to another film (here), but whenever it does, Stallone won’t be directing this time. The LA Times is hearing that Stallone has decided to not direct the sequel, and has been meeting with other directors to take the job. Although, there’s no word on just who he’s been speaking with at the moment. Stallone did a good job as directing/starring in The Expendables, but nothing ground-breaking. A spokesperson for Millennium Films declined to comment on when contacted.

Kidman and Cage dare to Trespass

Nicolas Cage and Nicole Kidman are getting intimate on the big screen as they sign on to play a married couple in Joel Schumacher’s Trespass. The story, written by Karl Gajdusek and Eli Richbourg, centers on a husband and wife taken hostage by four brutal perpetrators seeking easy cash. Complications ensue amid the unexpected discovery of betrayal and deception (Variety).

The project is under Nu Image/Millennium Films with Danny Dimbort, Irwin Wrinkler and Avi Lerner producing. The script for the upcoming thriller is written by Eli Richbourg and Karl Gajdusek. Filming is scheduled to commence this August in Louisiana.

You all remember Schumacher for his abysmal directorial work in Batman & Robin, but has been gradually trying to make it up with his other films. Those that are argued to be some of the better works he’s done within the past decade include The Number 23 and The Phantom of the Opera. Later on this year he comes out with his new dramatic thriller Twelve, coming out in theaters on July 30th.

Kramer could go for Kane and Lynch

Running Scared and Crossing Over director Wayne Kramer is being considered to take on the directorial reigns of the video game adapted feature Kane and Lynch, reports Latino Review. Simon Crane previously was supposed to be directing the picture but it looks like they didn’t want a first-timer to handle it anymore. If Kramer gets to handle this production, he’ll be directing around Bruce Willis and Jamie Foxx, the two leads in this project.

The story, being written by Kyle Ward, centers on Adam “Kane” Marcus (Willis), a mercenary who makes an unlikely alliance with the schizophrenic killer named James Lynch (Foxx). The duo is forced on a mission to retrieve a stolen fortune. Millennium Films and Lionsgate is attached to the film with Stephen J. Eads, Adrian Askarieh and Daniel Alter producing. No word on when principal photography will start, but a good guess would be later on this year so they can reach a 2011 release date.

Two more end up with No One

Jake Cherry and James Ransone are joining up on the Dito Montiel picture Son of No One from Nu Image/Millennium Films. The picture already stars Channing Tatum as a young cop who’s assigned to a precinct in the working class neighborhood where he grew up, and an old secret threatens to destroy his life and his family. Included in the cast is Ray Liotta, Al Pacino, Juliette Binoche, Katie Holmes and Tracy Morgan.

Ransone is playing Tatum’s police partner; Cherry is playing Tatum as a child, says THR. Filming is already underway for Son of No One which is projected to be released sometime in 2011.

Morgan and Binoche find No One

Tracy Morgan and French/American actress Juliette Binoche will be teaming up together in the new cop drama Son of No One. The film, directed by Dito Montiel, already has a cast building up which includes Channing Tatum, Katie Holmes, Al Pacino and Ray Liotta. In it, Tatum plays a young cop assigned to a precinct in the working class neighborhood where he grew up, with an old secret surfacing and threatening to destroy his life and family (THR).

Producing is Holly Wiersma, John Thompson and Montiel with Nu Image/Millennium Films under the picture. Principal photography is already set to begin next week in New York City with no specific release date planned at the moment.

New awesome poster for The Expendables

The Expendables can best be described as several action icons all formulating together on the big screen for one explosion of pure awesome, or at least that’s what one can hope. The feature is directed by Sylvester Stallone from a script co-written by him and David Callaham that also stars the action star.

The plot revolves around a group of mercenaries hired to infiltrate a South American country and overthrow its ruthless dictator. Once the mission begins, the men realize things arent quite as they appear, finding themselves caught in a dangerous web of deceit and betrayal. With their mission thwarted and an innocent life in danger, the men struggle with an even tougher challenge one that threatens to destroy this band of brothers.

The Millennium/Nu Image Films and Lionsgate feature also stars Jet Li, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke and a cameo from Arnold Schwarzenegger. The Expendables catapults into theaters on August 13th. That’s going to be one tough weekend, considering that it’s opening the same day as Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. New trailer for The Mechanic blasts in

The remake of the 1972 feature The Mechanic comes out with a new trailer that looks pretty snazzy in this reporter’s opinion. The story is centered on a hired killer (Jason Statham) and the new apprentice (Ben Foster) that he takes on, but can he be trusted?

Directed by Simon West, the feature is set to be released on December 15th. Check out the official trailer from Millennium Films below.:

McGowan joins on Conan

Principal photography is already slated to start up on Marcus Nispel’s Conan this upcoming Monday, but casting had not been completed until now. Rose McGowan rounds out the list of talent attached to the remake being handled by Lionsgate. Among those already on the cast include Jason Momoa, Stephen Lang, Leo Howard, Rachel Nichols and Ron Perlman.

The script is penned by Thomas Dean Donnelly, Joshua Oppenheimer and Sean Hood based on the books written by Robert E. Howard. Lang will portray a sadistic warlord, and McGowan is to play an evil half-human/half-witch. Howard appears as young Conan, and Perlman portrays Conan’s father, says Variety.

The feature is being produced by Avi Lerner, Joe Gatta, Boaz Davidson, George Furla, Henry Winterstern and Fredrik Malmberg. The Nu Image/Millennium Films and Paradox Entertainment picture is poised to come out in theaters sometime in 2011.

Burke chooses to Drive Angry

Billy Burke, best known for his role in the Twilight series, is the most recent addition to the cast of Drive Angry. Those in the cast already include Nicolas Cage, Amber Heard and William Fichtner. The Patrick Lussier feature centers on a vengeful father chases after the men who killed his daughter. Burke portrays a charismatic cult leader whose nefarious influence leads to kidnapping and murder (Variety).

The Nu Image and Millenium Films movie is coming out under Summit Entertainment on February 11th, 2011. Principal photography will be starting up next month in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Howard takes on young Conan

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and Shorts actor Leo Howard is now set to play the younger version of Conan in the upcoming remake. The tale is about Conan the Cimmerian, played by Jason Momoa, and his adventures across the continent of Hyboria. The feature is being directed by Marcus Nispel, who’s previous works include the remakes of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Friday the 13th. Word has it, from Latino Review, that Howard will be passed around as the young Conan for the first fifteen minutes of the feature, taking in the whole origin portion of the fictional character.

The character of Conan was originally created by Robert E. Howard, first appearing in novelettes in the early 1930s. Ever since then, the fictional barbarian has spawned off into comics, television, and two feature length films which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger. Conan is expected to be released in theaters sometime in 2011 under Lionsgate along with Nu Image and Millennium Films.

Variety reports that actors Donald Sutherland and Ben Foster will both be joining the cast of the 1972 remake of “The Mechanic”. The film is being directed by Simon West who’s previous work includes “When A Stranger Calls” and “The General’s Daughter”. This project is set underneath Millennium Films and Nu Image Entertainment with a December 15, 2010 release date.

In the pic, Foster (“3:10 to Yuma”) will play Steve McKenna, the young man who becomes an apprentice to a hitman played by Jason Statham. Sutherland will play the role of Foster’s father and Statham’s handler (Variety). The original, which starred Charles Bronson, became a hit which lead him and director Michael Winner to a fruitful collaboration that resulted in making the film “Death Wish”.
