Doctor Who‘s David Tennant and Christopher Mintz-Plasse are joining in on the Craig Gillespie remake Fright Night. If your a huge fan of the 1985 Tom Holland film, you know already that Mintz-Plasse is taking on the role of Evil Ed, Charley’s (Anton Yelchin) best friend. Tennant is going to be Peter Vincent, who in the original version is a has-been B-horror movie actor who ends up trying to convince Charley that Dandrige (Colin Farrell) is nothing more than a human.

In the remake, he’s a Las Vegas magician whose show revolves around horror-movie imagery. Vincent claims to be a vampire expert, but when the teen turns to him for assistance, he’s less than helpful. Mintz-Plasse is playing Evil Ed, Yelchin’s friend who feels slighted that Charlie has left his nerdy past behind and thus joins the vampire’s coven (Heat Vision Blog).

That pretty much rounds out the cast at this point, judging from the fact that Toni Collette’s role as Charley’s mother is just the pure love interest to our new version of Jerry Dandrige (Farrell). Anton Yelchin plays the troubled teen who tries to convince everyone that his new neighbor is a vampire. Gillespie is directing the picture from the script written by Marti Noxon. Michael J Gaeta, Alison R. Rosenzweig and Michael De Luca are producing the feature, set to begin filming later this year in Las Vegas.

The premise: a couple of pals who invented a fake friend they employ when they want to get away from their spouses get called on their BS when the wives insist on meeting Ricky Stinicky at a party they are throwing. The guys hire an actor (Franco) to play Stinicky (Deadline).

The script was penned by Jeff Bushell, who’s other written credits include Beverly Hills Chihuahua 1 and 2. Summit Entertainment is looking at financing the feature which is being produced by John Jacobs and Michael De Luca. Franco is appearing on the small and big screen for the remainder of this year, the first half being the ending story arc for his character in General Hospital. Along with that, this September 24th Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman’s Howl jumps into theaters.

The two are in early talks at the moment to be part of Bennett Miller’s feature. The story, based off the book by Michael Lewis, is about Oakland A’s general manager Billy Beane who successful attempt to put together a baseball club on a budget, by employing computer-generated analysis to draft his players.

If cast in the Columbia Pictures film, Hoffman would play team manager Art Howe, who frequently clashed with Beane over strategic decisions and Wright would portray Beane’s ex-wife (Variety). Those already part of the cast include Jonah Hill and Brad Pitt. Producing the film is Scott Rudin under Scott Rudin Productions, Michael De Luca under his Michael De Luca Productions label and Rachael Horovitz.

Wright will be appearing in the Robert Redford directed film The Conspirator, coming out in theaters sometime later this year. Hoffman bursts out into the scene this year with his directing debut of Jack Goes Boating, set for release hopefully later on in the year.

Greene will play a rebellious high school teenager named Kaitlen Pickler, says the Risky Business Blog. The Jason A. Micallef written picture is about an adopted girl who discovers her talent for butter carving and finds herself pitted against an ambitious local woman in their town’s annual contest. Jennifer Garner will be producing the picture under Vandalia Films along with Michael De Luca from his Michael De Luca Productions banner.

Those already part of the cast for this comedy include Rob Corddry, Kate Hudson and Jim Carrey. Principal photography is ready to start up next week in Louisiana with a 2012 release date already stamped onto the picture. If you want to see Greene in non-Twilight flicks, keep an eye out for her in several films this year which include Skateland, Warrior and Radio Free Albemuth whenever they finally get a solid release here in the states. If you’d rather see her as Alice Cullen, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse comes out in theaters and IMAX on June 30th.

For those who think the name is familiar, this is the same man who directed Lars and the Real Girl along with Mr. Woodcock. Marti Noxon is still knee deep in developing the script being produced by Alison Rosenzweig and Michael De Luca.

Though there were quite some murmurs awhile ago as to what exactly the official plot was on, and as to whether or not this would be a true to the bone remake, still is in question at the moment. The original Fright Night centers on horror movie buff Charlie Brewster (William Ragsdale) who believes that his new next door neightbor Jerry Dandrige (Chris Sarandon) is a vampire, believing he is the cause for several strange deaths that happen within the town. Convinced that his findings are true, he enlists in the help of horror movie personality/actor Peter Vincent (Roddy McDowall) but quickly realizes he definitely is in over his head.

No word on when DreamWorks expects to start filming, but if Noxon chucks out the script quickly enough we could be hearing about casting pretty soon in the future.

The picture, directed by David Gordon Green, stars Hill as a college student, suspended for the semester and living at home with his single mom, who has a night to remember when he gets talked into baby-sitting the eccentric kids next door: two boys and a wild 8-year-old girl (THR). Michael De Luca is producing the script that started as a spec script from Brian Gatewood and Alessandro Tanaka.

David Gordon Green is already quite the popular director, especially for his surprise hit in the summer 2008 film Pineapple Express. He already wrapped up initial filming for the upcoming comedy Your Highness which stars the talents of Danny McBride, James Franco, Natalie Portman and Justin Theroux. Hill will be appearing in theaters once more on the impending release of the spinoff film from the movie Forgetting Sarah Marshall called Get Him To The Greek.

This will not be Noxon’s first brush with the supernatural, having previous experience as a writer on the popular Joss Whedon show Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the spinoff show Angel. Dreamworks is in charge of keeping this production afloat with producers Michael De Luca, Alison Rosenzweig and Michael Gaeta all on board.

The horror-comedy feature has made it’s fair share of appearances within the news this year, quickly dying off at the start only to get a boost of life back into the project much to my dismay. Even though THR reported the news that’s so typical to hear nowadays, this reporter just hates being reminded of the fact that at this point with this town, no film is good enough or safe to not be remade.

David Fincher and Andrew Kevin Walker are teaming up once again for Columbia Pictures newest project The Reincarnation of Peter Proud. This is the first time the duo has worked alongside each other since the 1995 thriller mystery Seven. Walker, who wrote the 2009 version of The Wolfman, will be penning the script with The Curious Case of Benjamin Button helmer Fincher directing. Producing with Fincher will be Michael De Luca and Alison Rosenzweig.

Proud centers on a college professor who begins having recurring dreams and nightmares and, realizing they are images of a past life, decides to search out the source of the visions. With his girlfriend in tow, he discovers a woman and her grown-up daughter who are keys to his past life (THR). The story is originally based off of a novel of the same name by Max Ehrlich published in 1974. The book then a year later became a film, so technically this is not only a novel adaptation but a remake too. By this point every other film being announced is based off of something and continually proves the lack of creativity that runs through Tinseltown’s veins.
