But, you never know. Sometimes the afterlife of movies burns brightly. They can certainly bring it back. But, right now, I don’t think there’s any immediate plans. My only real regret about that is that Number 6 was really awesome and I would have liked to have seen a lot more of her. We need another kick-ass girl heroine.”

Would you all want to see this sequel? Looks like if it’ll happen, Blu-ray/DVD sales need to be high.

Doctor Who‘s David Tennant and Christopher Mintz-Plasse are joining in on the Craig Gillespie remake Fright Night. If your a huge fan of the 1985 Tom Holland film, you know already that Mintz-Plasse is taking on the role of Evil Ed, Charley’s (Anton Yelchin) best friend. Tennant is going to be Peter Vincent, who in the original version is a has-been B-horror movie actor who ends up trying to convince Charley that Dandrige (Colin Farrell) is nothing more than a human.

In the remake, he’s a Las Vegas magician whose show revolves around horror-movie imagery. Vincent claims to be a vampire expert, but when the teen turns to him for assistance, he’s less than helpful. Mintz-Plasse is playing Evil Ed, Yelchin’s friend who feels slighted that Charlie has left his nerdy past behind and thus joins the vampire’s coven (Heat Vision Blog).

That pretty much rounds out the cast at this point, judging from the fact that Toni Collette’s role as Charley’s mother is just the pure love interest to our new version of Jerry Dandrige (Farrell). Anton Yelchin plays the troubled teen who tries to convince everyone that his new neighbor is a vampire. Gillespie is directing the picture from the script written by Marti Noxon. Michael J Gaeta, Alison R. Rosenzweig and Michael De Luca are producing the feature, set to begin filming later this year in Las Vegas.

That’s right, the Fright Night remake is said to be set in Vegas, says Arrow in the Head, which makes things all the more head-scratching for the Craig Gillespie film. The remake of the popular 1985 film stars Colin Farrell as our hopefully seductive vampire Jerry Dandrige along with Toni Collette and Anton Yelchin.

The Fright Night remake centers on Jerry Dandrige (Farrell), a charming and scheming blood sucker who moves in next door to horror fanatic Charley Brewster (Yelchin). While Charley tries to warn those around him that Jerry’s really a threat, no one believes him. And then the vampire starts to put the moves on Charley’s mother (Collette).

The script, penned by Marti Noxon, is being produced by Michael De Luca and Michael J. Gaeta. No word on when filming will begin, but the DreamWorks picture is poised for a 2011 release.

Does the Fright Night remake look appealing to any of you?

Fright Night is a horror comedy released in 1985 that was written and directed by Tom Holland. The film stars William Ragsdale as Charlie Brewster, a teenager who’s convinced that his new next door neighbor Jerry Dandrige (Chris Sarandon) is a vampire, but unfortunately nobody believes him. The Fright Night remake is expeceted to be released sometime in 2011.

For those who think the name is familiar, this is the same man who directed Lars and the Real Girl along with Mr. Woodcock. Marti Noxon is still knee deep in developing the script being produced by Alison Rosenzweig and Michael De Luca.

Though there were quite some murmurs awhile ago as to what exactly the official plot was on, and as to whether or not this would be a true to the bone remake, still is in question at the moment. The original Fright Night centers on horror movie buff Charlie Brewster (William Ragsdale) who believes that his new next door neightbor Jerry Dandrige (Chris Sarandon) is a vampire, believing he is the cause for several strange deaths that happen within the town. Convinced that his findings are true, he enlists in the help of horror movie personality/actor Peter Vincent (Roddy McDowall) but quickly realizes he definitely is in over his head.

No word on when DreamWorks expects to start filming, but if Noxon chucks out the script quickly enough we could be hearing about casting pretty soon in the future.

This time though, instead of absolute dread over what is going to transpire with one of this reporter’s favorite eighties horror movies might turn into something actually kick ass. Read below from the new turn that the story can go:

The new Fright Night was going to take a meta approach and acknowledge the existence of Holland’s film. And like the original, the Charley Brewster-like protagonist would need to enlist some help to take on a vampire menace. However, the film’s hero wouldn’t be calling on Peter Vincent, he’d be seeking out none other than actor Chris Sarandon himself, the man who played the vampire Jerry Dandrige! Together, the hero and Sarandon would take on the big bad bloodsucker.

This reporter does not know about the rest of you, but this new approach actually sounds plausible and is starting to increase the anticipation slowly but surely of this feature. Marti Noxon is currently penning this remake/reimagining of sorts under Dreamworks with a possible 2010 production start date.

This will not be Noxon’s first brush with the supernatural, having previous experience as a writer on the popular Joss Whedon show Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the spinoff show Angel. Dreamworks is in charge of keeping this production afloat with producers Michael De Luca, Alison Rosenzweig and Michael Gaeta all on board.

The horror-comedy feature has made it’s fair share of appearances within the news this year, quickly dying off at the start only to get a boost of life back into the project much to my dismay. Even though THR reported the news that’s so typical to hear nowadays, this reporter just hates being reminded of the fact that at this point with this town, no film is good enough or safe to not be remade.
