Shrek owns all for third weekend in a row

Despite the first big wave of June summer movies, DreamWorks Animation’s Shrek Forever After (or Shrek The Final Chapter) conquers all once more with $25.3 Million this weekend. The green box office monster has now made an estimated $165 Million, pretty darn impressive for the ‘final chapter’ of the four part franchise. Here’s hoping DreamWorks once again does not get any ideas in order to further this tale since they closed it up ever so nicely with this fourth film.

Get Him to the Greek managed to lure in some audience members with it’s $17.4 Million total on it’s opening weekend. With the so-so reviews that are pouring out for the Forgetting Sarah Marshall spinoff, it’s kind of no surprise. Killers is a surprising third with $16.1 Million, showing that people either still want to see Ashton Kutcher shirtless or still are eating up Katherine Heigl’s romantic comedy efforts, appearing more and more like our generation’s Meg Ryan.

The super kid-friendly comic strip turned feature film Marmaduke puts it’s tail between its legs, slumping over towards the doghouse while making only $11.3 Million. This great dane better use the puppy dog look if it expects to get a nice amount of revenue from the box office before other monstrous kid-friendly films go into theaters. Last but not least is the Sundace feature Splice, the science fiction thriller that took in $7.4 Million with it’s last minute marketing boost. With the good word of mouth spreading around, maybe you’ll be like myself and cave in later on today to see it. Here’s the rest of the totals below from Box Office Mojo.:

June is still going strong with the amount of films that get chucked out into theaters each week. The latest to grace the big screen nationwide are The A-Team and The Karate Kid. Those being set off into limited release include Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky, Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work and Kings of the Evening.

Fox brings on The Fight Before Christmas

Twentieth Century Fox is getting their dukes up as they grab the pitch entitled The Fight Before Christmas, made by scribe Adam Sztykiel. There’s no word on what the story is about, other than the fact that it’s a ‘family-friendly comedy’, reports Variety. Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps Entertainment is attached to the project with Dan Levine and Billy Rosenberg producing.

21 Laps has been attached to several recent films which include The Rocker, What Happens in Vegas and Date Night. Levy is busy with pre-production on the Hugh Jackman starring film Real Steel. The story centers on a struggling promoter (Jackman) who thinks he’s found a champion in a discarded robot. During his hopeful rise to the top, he also discovers he has an 11-year-old son who wants to know his father. Real Steel comes out in theaters on November 18th, 2011.

Fox is distributing several summer films this year, including The A-Team, Marmaduke, Knight and Day and Predators.

Greer and Sarandon go Home

Judy Greer and Susan Sarandon sign up to be in Paramount Pictures’ Jeff Who Lives at Home. Jay and Mark Duplass are directing and writing the stoner comedy film which already stars Jason Segel and Ed Helms. Jason Reitman’s Right of Way Films is producing along with Russell Smith, the Duplass brothers and John Malkovich’s Mr. Mudd banner.

Storyline revolves around two brothers, one of whom is going through a mid-life crisis and believes his wife (Greer) is having an affair. The other is a lovable loser who still lives with his mom (Sarandon). One day, the two brothers set out to spy on the wife, with all sorts of unintended consequences (Variety).

Greer is set to appear in the live action/animation hybrid feature Maramaduke from Twentieth Century Fox. Sarandon is appearing in several films, the first of them being the HBO feature You Don’t Know Jack starring Al Pacino. She also appears in the direct to DVD film Peacock and will be seen on the big screen this September 24th in Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.

New trailer pops out for Marmaduke

Yahoo! Movies presents to us the full length trailer for the live action and CGI-animation hybrid film Marmaduke. The feature includes the voice talents of Owen Wilson, Ron Perlman, Emma Stone and Jeremy Piven with the flesh and blood performances from Judy Greer, Lee Pace and William H. Macy.

For Phil and Debbie Winslow, moving their family from Kansas to the O.C. is a big deal. For their enormous Great Dane “Marmaduke” (Wilson), however, the move means a whole new way of life. It’s chaos at home and awkward at work as the Winslows struggle to control their angsty teenage canine.

Yes people, that is the actual synopsis (believe it or not). Need further proof? Then watch the trailer below for the film. The Tom Dey directed film is expected to be released on June 4th in theaters everywhere from Twentieth Century Fox.:

Stone is possibly looking for Help

Emma Stone continues to make the right moves as she is in the middle of negotiations to be a lead in the upcoming picture The Help. The picture, based off of the novel by Kathryn Stockett, is being written and directed by Tate Taylor.

Set in Jackson, Mississippi in the early 1960s, “The Help” explores how the unspoken code of behavior governing Southern households is shattered when an aspiring writer interviews a maid, who speaks candidly about her experiences. The interview sets off shock waves that reverberate across the entire community (Variety).

Stone is also in the middle of talks to be part of the untitled Steve Carell martial crisis feature being directed by John Requa and Glenn Ficarra. Emma Stone will be lending her voice to the character Mazie in the upcoming live action/animation feature Marmaduke.

Stone gets caught up in a marital crisis

Emma Stone is in the middle of negotiations to be part of the cast in the untitled Steve Carell starring project for Warner Bros Pictures. The story centers on a father whose life unravels while he deals with spousal problems and tries to manage his relationship with his children. Stone would portray the daughter of Carell’s character and the love interest to Ryan Gosling’s character (Variety). Directing the picture will be Glenn Ficarra and John Requa from the script penned by Dan Fogelman. Fogelman’s previous credits include Cars, Bolt and Fred Claus.

Stone recently was seen in the horror comedy Zombieland and can next be seen lending her voice to the character Mazie in the family feature Marmaduke. Carell can next be seen co-starring alongside Tina Fey in the action comedy Date Night.

Wilson barks away as Marmaduke

Owen Wilson continues on his long path of kid friendly movies as he signs on to lend his voice in the upcoming live action and CGI-animated feature “Marmaduke”. The hybrid movie, under Twentieth Century Fox, follows a family named the Winslows who move from Kansas to Orange County with their dog Marmaduke, a slobbery pooch who creates chaos wherever he goes (THR). Already on board to also co-star in the project is William H. Macy, Judy Greer and Lee Pace as the humans in the great dane’s slobbery world.

In the director’s chair is “Failure to Launch” helmer Tom Dey with himself and John Davis producing. Wilson is always consistently busy and will be next seen lending his voice once again in Wes Anderson’s “The Fantastic Mr. Fox”. The comedic actor is in the middle of filming the third installment of the “Meet the Parents” trilogy entitled “Little Fockers”.
