Louis Leterrier is going to helm G (originally titled Gravity), which is being called a sci-fi/disaster film from Universal. We don’t know a whole lot about the plot but the basics have been revealed as “a father who has to search for his lost child as the world stops spinning and Earth begins to lose its gravity“. The film is based off of an idea by Guymon Casady (who is producing) and writers for the script are currently being searched for.

He’s the front runner of a list right now that includes David Slade, Daniel Espinosa, Rupert Sanders, Jonathan Mostow, Carl Erick Rinsch, Timur Bekmambetov and Louis Leterrier.

Bryan Singer was originally rumored to be directing the prequel that centers on the formation of Xavier’s school and the inevitable friendship bust between Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr a.k.a Magneto. Although he ended up jumping ship in order to work on his other projet Jack the Giant Killer, he still took part in the pre-production process, putting together a script with writer Jamie Moss.

If Twentieth Century Fox gets a director on board soon, X-Men: First Class could get into casting our favorite original X-Men a lot quicker. Out of the list of candidates, who do you think is fit for this directorial job?

“Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures are moving ahead with a sequel to Clash of the Titans, which the studio would like as early as spring, 2012. But they will make the journey without Louis Leterrier, who will not return for an encore as director.”

Leterrier will still be attached as executive producer, and Sam Worthington is set to return as Perseus. The studio is currently looking for a new director at the moment, but is hoping to begin shooting before Worthington begins Avatar 2. Greg Berlanti will be writing the story.

Of course the next thing to do is to make plans for a sequel. In an interview with MTV, director Louis Leterrier spoke about his ideas for a sequel or two.:

“I’m not saying I know what exactly will happen to [Sam Worthington's] Perseus in the next two movies, but I know the direction and it’s pretty exciting,” director Louis Leterrier said. “It’s ancient superheroes.”

“You’ve got so many creatures, so many heroes, so many gods,” Leterrier explained. “You have Daedalus, Icarus, Percivel. Amazing stuff. You’ve got several worlds. I could spend the rest of my life directing Greek mythology movies and I would still not finish everything.”

I really love Greek Mythology, but was very disappointed with how the film turned out. There was one story that was briefly mentioned in the film that I would love to see as a prequel, but I am almost certain it will never happen. At least with plans of a sequel the studio would be prepared to shoot the film in 3-D instead of a last minute conversion.

The Louis Leterrier helmed picture stars Sam Worthington with a cast that includes Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes. Despite the mixed word of mouth on the picture, one of the things that must have helped the film’s profit was the increased sales of 3D that kicked up prior to its release.

Next on the list is Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Too? which wrangled in $30.1 Million. This opening total is not much of a surprise granted that this is a Tyler Perry film. Last, but not least, is the Nicholas Sparks novel turned feature The Last Song, taking in $16.2 Million. Nicholas Sparks combined with the star power of Miley Cyrus was easy bank, so it’s no surprise this made some good amount of revenue already. A couple of other features managed to do well box office-wise, at the top of the list being How to Train Your Dragon with $29.2 Million. Here’s the rest of the totals below from Box Office Mojo.:

Weekend Box Office (April 2-4)

Clash of the Titans ($61.4 M)

Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Too? ($30.1 M)

How to Train Your Dragon ($29.2 M)

The Last Song ($16.2 M)

Alice in Wonderland ($8.2 M)

Hot Tub Time Machine ($8 M)

The Bounty Hunter ($6.2 M)

Diary of a Wimpy Kid ($5.5 M)

She’s Out of My League ($1.463 M)

Shutter Island ($1.462 M)

Coming out next week is the comedy Date Night, along with limited releases of After.Life, La Mission, Letters to God, When You’re Strange and Women Without Men. Also, look for a wider release of Runaways.

If I was to say Clash of the Titans was a mythology-light, action-oriented, campy, visual effects extravaganza, would I be talking about the 1981 film or the 3D 2010 film? Cut from the same cloth, both Clash of the Titans are mimicking each other, so much so, that it’s hard to fault this remake for the flaws the 1981 film had. Hopefully, the Gods won’t smite me for saying this, but as much as I love the work and films of Ray Harryhausen, Clash of the Titans was certainly weaker in a lot of areas than his other fantasy films like Jason and the Argonauts or The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad, so remaking it wasn’t an issue to me. Instead of clearing away some of the 1981 film’s flaws, they decided to go with the visual effects update, and that’s really all there is to the 2010 film.

There’s nothing really wrong with that, mind you. Have we gotten away from the fun of the spectacle? We can debate Harryhausen’s films all day on their merits and quality, but the man had one thing in his corner, from film to film, he wowed. Even though, I personally feel that the 1981 version of Clash is flawed, but decent fun, Harryhausen’s work in stop-motion effects were unrivaled, and that’s all the plot served. The visual effects was the film’s star and Harryhausen delivered. In the 2010 version, CG is now the tool and while some scenes are better than others visually, 2010′s Clash is a effects driven film, and when you look at it that way, it’s a flawed, but decent time.

You’ll be amazed by how similar the two versions are, yet there is one key difference: Ray Harryhausen’s creatures, and films even, had magic. His creatures were show-stoppers. Not just because he was the King of Stop-Motion, but his creatures had that little bit extra in their mannerisms, that made them alive and aided that magic. I’m not knocking Louis Leterrier (Incredible Hulk) at all, but these creatures are straight-up cookie cutter CG monsters. We can debate the differences all day long, but the 2010 version is hampered by extremely hamfisted dialogue and a ton of exposition. The exposition is filler, clinging the scenes of spectacle together. Here, Perseus’s (Sam Worthington) journey seems really easy. Whenever in a bind, just listen to Athena as her exposition will clear it all up. I can’t be too down, as all actors involved in both film version had cheesy dialogue to work with, let alone a script that gave them little to do.

You can see it at times, the underlining subtext of the film, where Man is here to control his own destiny, damn the gods. One wishes, if anything this new version added, was a bit more to this idea. Is asking for just a little intellectual stimulation against the visual eye candy, too much to ask sometimes? And the pre-release controversy of WB’s decision to add a post 3D gimmick to the film, does feels tacked on, yet it isn’t that bad. There’s some fun to be had with the 3D, you sticklers, but when it all comes back down to is, 2010′s Clash of the Titans is much like the 1981′s Clash. Big, loud, effects driven film that is nothing more than quickie entertainment, and by Zeus, flaws and all, that’s what Leterrier brought.

Rating: 2.5 out of 5 stars

Vaughan and Pia Guerra comic Y: The Last Man has been floundering back and forth in development for some time. For awhile Transformers star Shia LaBeouf was attached to take on the lead role of Yorick Brown, the last man on earth still living with his pet monkey Ampersand after a plague suddenly wipes out every male mammal from the planet. Quickly he jumped off the project, making an excuse to Wizard Magazine that Yorick’s character was too close personality-wise to the character Sam (from Transformers). You can argue that if you want, especially if you’ve read the comics and know the clear differences. Ever since then, the feature has been dead in the water, that is until now.

Latino Review reports that New Line Cinema are breathing life back into the project again with Clash of the Titans director Louis Leterrier circling the director’s chair. He’s had previous directorial experience with comic book adapted features with Marvel Studios’ The Incredible Hulk, so this could possibly be a good choice. Then again, this is all part of the rumor mill, but let’s open it up to you.

Would you like to see Louis Leterrier direct Y: The Last Man, or would you want somebody else taking the reigns on this New Line Cinema project?

Louis Leterrier is a name a lot of us are more familiar with when it comes to the remake Clash of the Titans. The director has also dealt with a certain gamma ray filled character that resides in the Marvel universe with the 2008 summer film The Incredible Hulk. Latino Review got to corner the director and got to squeeze out some information from him not only on another Hulk movie but the possibility of taking on The Avengers.:

Have you spoken with Marvel about directing The Avengers?

Louis: Ya ya. I’m on a short list but it’s a shortlist of good people. So I’m like, at the bottom.

And that’s definitely a project you’d like to do?

Louis: I would love to do it.

And Edward Norton wants more Hulk.

Louis: Ya ya. We’ll try. I speak to Edward often. I’d love to do that. It would be great.

What do you think? Do you believe that Leterrier would be a good choice to take on The Avengers? Or do you think he should make another Hulk movie, or just stay away from the Marvel universe? Share your thoughts.

Battling unholy demons and fearsome beasts, he will only survive if he can accept his power as a god, defy his fate and create his own destiny.

The remake of the cheesy yet popular 1981 film Clash of the Titans has a kick ass cast that includes Sam Worthington, Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes, Gemma Arterton, Alexa Davalos and Danny Huston. Directed by Louis Letterier, this Greek mythological action/adventure film under Warner Bros Pictures comes out on April 2nd. Well, that’s what I like to label it as. With the huge line-up of bulging muscles, smashing in people’s faces and scooping up said random woman, a nice chunk of action movies seem to be following this same formula to the umpteenth degree.

The one that is being put in the spotlight at the moment is the Louis Letterier directed remake Clash of the Titans. Starring Avatar lead Sam Worthington, this Greek mythological tale is bursting with actions, Liam Neeson as a god and pure chunks of awesome, or so we hope once this film comes out into theaters.

The mortal son of the god Zeus embarks on a perilous journey to stop the underworld and its minions from spreading their evil to Earth as well as the heavens. Clash of the Titans comes out in theaters everywhere on March 26th. Check out the cool international trailer below from IGN.:

Clash of the Titans is already turning into one anticipated testosterone pumped action movie, especially with Avatar and Terminator Salvation‘s Sam Worthington storming around as the sword-wielding Perseus. BoxOffice.Com got to sit down and talk to director Louis Leterrier on several things which include the 3D fate of this March releasing feature.:

We’re doing some tests. The problem is, we want to do it right. We’re going along with it and we’re doing a lot of tests by the people that actually did some of the shots in Avatar. In Avatar, some stuff was shot in 3D and some stuff was shot with a very wide lens. It’s very interesting—I’ve yet to see the results, but frankly, I shot it better than I would have shot a 3D movie because I never thought I would do it as a 3D movie. Everything is coming at the camera. So if we do the 3D conversion and it looks good, it’s going to be such a ride. Everything is going to come right at your face. It’s going to be a pretty dynamic movie.

If you like big rides, you’re going to be thrilled with this movie because it’s going to take you everywhere. You’ll be going through the tentacles of the Kraken, following the Pegasus for three seconds and then the claw of a scorpion is going to snap right at you—jump right out. It’s going to be pretty exciting. But it’s also a rating issue because now it gets really scary, really impressive. I hope it’s good. I’m excited—really excited.

At the moment it is not entirely confirmed that the feature will end up staying in 3D as well as regularly projected film. Those who end up watching the test footage that displays the apparently awesome power of 3D on Clash of the Titans will end up deciding in the next couple of weeks if that should be it’s fate.

Clash of the Titans is directed by Louis Leterrier and stars Sam Worthington along with Gemma Arterton, Ralph Fiennes and Liam Neeson. The Greek mythological action/adventure/fantasy is set to come out in theaters everywhere on March 26th.

On many people’s lists of highly anticipated movies of 2010, or so I would like to think, a lot of them have the Sam Worthington starring feature Clash of the Titans. The Louis Leterrier directed film follows the mortal son of the god Zeus who embarks on a perilous journey to stop the underworld and its minions from spreading their evil to Earth as well as the heavens.

The bad-ass remake of the 1981 film also stars the likes of Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes, Gemma Arterton and tons more. Clash of the Titans comes out this March 26th, which could not come here soon enough.
