Lionsgate has now announced the frist trailer for Bill Condon’s The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 will be released next month in front of The Hunger Games on March 23rd. Surprised? You really shouldn’t be as it seems like an obvious move after Summit Entertainment and Lionsgate merged. “We’re very excited about the opportunities created by our recent acquisition of Summit Entertainment. The February 11 home entertainment release of ‘Twilight Saga Breaking Dawn 1,’ the March 23 theatrical release of ‘Hunger Games’ and the November 16 theatrical release of ‘Twilight Saga Breaking Dawn 2′ lead a strong combined slate that we believe will enable us to deliver increased consistency, profitability and value to our shareholders,” Lionsgate Chief Executive Officer Jon Feltheimer said.

The studio is wanting to move quickly into the film, and has set the remake for a July 26th, 2013 release date, according to The Hollywood Reporter. And if you thought the sequel would be using modern music such as Ke$ha or Justin Bieber, Ortega is planning on “incorporating classic songs from the 1960s, hits from the original film and new compositions”. Nothing else is known about the film.

Lionsgate has acquired worldwide movie rights to the Chaos Walking trilogy, a series of young adult dystopia novels written by award-winning novelist Patrick Ness.

The story takes place in a dystopian future on another planet which has been colonized by humans. An infection referred to as “The Noise” eliminaties privacy by making it possible to hear all thought, and a corrupt mayor takes advantage of the ensuing chaos by trying to seize control of the human settlements. A young man named Todd Hewitt finds that he may be the only one able to stop the planet’s destruction.

“The Noise is a man unfiltered, and without a filter, a man is just chaos walking.”

Lionsgate is gearing up for the 3D horror film The Nurse, and today we received a rather sexy and bloody look at lead actress Paz De La Huerta.

From the Press Release:

Lionsgate® and the filmmakers of Nurse 3D are pleased to announce that Paz De La Huerta (“Boardwalk Empire,” ENTER THE VOID) will star in the film as Abby Russell, a beautiful, dedicated nurse with a sinister side, and a secret life’s work in which she targets and punishes dishonest men. De La Huerta is represented by Untitled Entertainment and Don Buchwald and Associates.

The studio today debuted gripping pre-production concept art of Paz De La Huerta in character as Abby. Shot by Lionsgate’s Chief Marketing Officer Tim Palen, it will serve as a style guide and character inspiration for all stages of filmmaking. The story was originally inspired by previous photography of horror tastemaker Palen, who explored the intersection of caretaking and punishment in an ongoing series of fine art photographs of beautiful, fantastical nurses used by the studio.

The film is to be directed by Douglas Aarniokoski, who brings a wealth of experience as a first assistant director on high profile productions such as FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS, SPY KIDS, TAKERS, and RESIDENT EVIL: EXTINCTION, and who also directed the forthcoming feature film THE DAY. Principle photography on the film will begin on September 6th in Toronto.

“In his original nurse photos and the fan conversation that ensued, Tim had clearly scratched the surface of a really great concept – the idea of a film noir depiction of a beautiful nurse who uses her sexuality to very severe ends,” explained Mike Paseornek, Lionsgate’s President of Production and the executive in charge of the film. “That concept was the perfect germ for this thrilling story, which will be extremely visceral in 3D.”

Added Palen, “Paz is the perfect actress for this role and has already been such an inspiration to the whole project. She brings an intensity and a sense of adventure to this role that is so promising.” He continues, “We learned from the success of MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3D that there is a real interest in what 3D filmmaking can add to risqué scenes in R rated films, and this film will deliver those scenes to audiences in a really sophisticated, artful way.”

However, Deadline is hearing that Lionsgate was close to closing a deal with a bid of $29.5 million, but Annapurna Films came in with an even higher amount. The two studios are now battling it out to see who gets the project. It’s not surprising to see this happening given the popularity of the franchise, but it’s a little surprising given the mediocre success of McG’s Terminator: Salvation.

Well Lionsgate made the official announcement today concerning the project. The film is set to begin production next month, it’ll be a collaboration between Lionsgate and Nu Image. The director of Takers John Luessenhop is currently in talks to direct this and Carl Mazzocone is on board as producer.

President of Lionsgate’s Motion Picture Group, Mike Paseornek had the following to say: “This is a franchise with such enduring opportunity, and Nu Image is the perfect partner with which to realize that opportunity.” Adds Constantine, “We have had much success in working with Nu Image to revitalize existing genres or characters – from ‘The Expendables,’ which was our highest grossing film ever, to this Summer’s ‘Conan The Barbarian 3D.’ We’re thrilled that Carl Mazzocone has chosen us to help him carry out his vision for this great property. It feels very much like home to be again collaborating with Mark Burg after all of our shared successes with the Saw films.”

Producer Mazzocone added “I’m excited to re-conceive this iconic horror classic in a contemporary setting for a new generation of horror fans to enjoy. Our story picks up where the original left off. Both John Luessenhop and I intend to deliver a new chapter derived from Tobe Hooper’s 1973 masterpiece with the goal of making it as horrifying as the original — in 3D!“

No, it’s not that Rubik’s Cube movie that supposedly in the works (here), or a spin-off film about The Allspark from Michael Bay’s Transformers. The film is a supposed to either be a sequel, remake, or reboot of the 1997 horror film Cube. The original film was directed by Vincenzo Natali (Splice) about “a group of strangers who were confined to a series of rooms, each one containing (or not) a lethal device.”

The film somewhat preceded Lionsgate fixation with traps like the Saw franchise. However, the Cube only warranted one sequel in 2002 titled Cube 2: Hypercube and a prequel Cube: Zero. Although, the studio is probably looking for something to replace Saw now that the series has supposedly ended. No other details on the film are known at this time.

Touring the country in promotion of her new self-help book, Sidney arrives in Woodsboro and quickly reconnects with her old friend Sheriff Dewey (David Arquette), who has recently gotten married to Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox). Though a much-welcomed family reunion with her aunt Kate (Mary McDonnell) and cousin Jill (Emma Roberts) goes a long way in helping Sidney lay her tragic past to rest, old fears come back with a vengeance when Ghostface reappears on a murderous mission to make up for lost time.

The sequel to Clash of the Titans was originally scheduled for release on March 30, the studio has changed that to March 23. Not a big change, but at least it’s not pushed back a week as with the previous film. However, the film will literally be clashing with Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games next year. No reason was given for the change, but the studios could be playing a game of chicken to see which backs out first.

While The Expendables was a fun action flick, the best part about the movie was seeing all the famous action stars under one roof. With the sequel, many are wondering just who will be brought in this time. We’ve already heard that Charlie Sheen could be up for a role (here), but it seems they’re looking for someone younger for this film.

While promoting The Expendables on DVD/Blu-ray, Dolph Lundgren (Gunner) revealed to Den of Geek that Stallone could be looking at Channing Tatum (G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, Dear John) to star. “I know they were talking about someone really young, like that guy, what’s his name? The guy that was in G.I. Joe? Yeah, Channing Tatum, or someone like him to bring that audience,” he said. Okay, so it doesn’t mean Tatum is up for a role, but it gives us an idea as to who could be in the sequel. Lundgren also mentioned that Jean-Claude Van Damme could star in that film, possibly as a villain along with Bruce Willis’ character (here).

Filming is expected to begin next Spring, so we should hear more casting soon.
