Hollywood seems to full of sibling superteams – Beau and Jeff Bridges, Ralph and Joseph Fiennes, Ben and Casey Affleck. These dynamic duos conquer critics, walk the red carpet with ease and win over audiences with their acting abilities.

So … are the Hemsworth brothers next on this illustrious list?

Chris Hemsworth certainly made a splash with the $25 million opening of Thor, and Liam Hemsworth, who up until this point has been known for his romance (oh yeah … and movie …) with Miley Cyrus, should be making a similar splash with The Hunger Games next year.

Bottom line – I think you should keep an eye on these guys. (And, ladies, it doesn’t hurt that they’re not exactly hard to look at, either.)

I don’t think we should necessarily crown these Australian actors as the new faces of Hollywood, and I also don’t think they’re going to be winning any Oscars at this point. But they have been smart about taking on roles that will put them in the spotlight.

Thor strikes me as the unofficial kick-off to the summer blockbuster season. We still have the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie opening in a couple of weeks, but Thor has everything you’d expect in a summer blockbuster – action, superheroes and good versus evil. Not bad for the elder Hemsworth’s first leading role. And the younger Hemsworth is stepping into a role that already has enormous popularity in The Hunger Games. His casting may have been somewhat controversial, but fans of Suzanne Collins’ novels undoubtedly will be going to see the onscreen adaptation in droves.

You should be seeing a lot of these brothers in the coming months. What are your thoughts on their roles?

Another movie adaptation released some casting news recently. Saoirse Ronan has been cast as the lead in the onscreen version of Stephenie Meyers’ The Host.

The 17-year-old Ronan will play 20-year-old Melanie Stryder. Melanie’s mind is invaded by a parasitic alien, and she fights the invading “soul” known as Wanderer by consistently thinking of Jared, the love of her life, who is still in hiding from the parasite. Eventually, Wanderer also starts to feel for Jared, and an interesting love triangle – involving only two actual people – ensues. Don’t you hate it when that happens?!

OK, there’s no Edward Cullen (or Robert Pattinson) in this one, but it still sounds interesting, right?,

He will be co-starring alongside The Last Song‘s Liam Hemsworth on the script written by Barry P. and Russell Ambrose. The period film centers on a young commander (Hemsworth) who, after his king is murdered in a coup, joins forces with Sinbad and Aladdin to rescue Queen Scheherazade.

Hopkins will play Pharotu, an evil sorcerer who killed Sinbad’s love, a mermaid, and is looking to amass more magic for himself (Heat Vision Blog). Producing the feature is Bill Johnson under Inferno Entertainment with Mark Cidari and Gordon Gray under Mayhem Pictures. Principal photography could possibly take place at the end of this summer with no set release date announced at the moment.

The actor continually keeps himself busy, his latest on screen work being in Universal Pictures’ The Wolfman. He just recently wrapped up filming his role as Odin in the Marvel Studios picture Thor, set to be released in theaters on May 6th, 2011.

Frank Gildea dropped out of college in 1981 to support his family. Two decades later, he returned to his alma mater, College of the Redwoods, where his son was playing for the school’s basketball squad. The elder Gildea was able to finish out his eligibility and join his son on the team that won the school’s first conference championship in 27 years, says The Wrap.

Doug Atchison is attached to the picture to direct, this person’s previous credits being Akeelah and the Bee. Prison Break writer Nick Santora is putting together the script from the original draft conjured up by scribe Brad Gann. Walden Media and Mayhem Pictures are latched onto the film, scheduled to be released sometime in 2011.

You can still see Liam Hemsworth co-star with Disney channel princess Miley Cyrus in the Nicholas Sparks novel-turned-movie The Last Song in theaters right now.

It also goes by the name The Devil’s Triangle, and is a area that covers the Straits of Florida, the Bahamas, and the entire Caribbean islands and the Atlantic east to Azores. Over the years a number of aircraft and ships have mysteriously vanished without a trace. Aside from the Bryan Singer/Dean Devlin Sci-Fi Channel Miniseries The Triangle and the Italian clunker The Bermuda Triangle, Hollywood hasn’t taken advantage of the esoteric body of water. Shocking really, because there are a plethora of forboding angles you could take in explaining the sea of evil.

Jess (Melissa George) and a group of friends set sail to the high seas on a yacht only to run into a rogue storm that capsizes their boat, leaving them stranded in the ocean. A colossal ocean liner crosses their paths which seems like a safe haven, but little do they realize that a hooded figure is there to greet them with a shotgun in hand.

One by one her friends are getting picked off by this malevolent individual who turns out to look exactly like Jess. How can this be? Is this some evil doppelganger, or has Jess lost her mind and decided to kill her friends because she is in a unbalanced state of mind? Everything comes to a head as a serious case of déjà vu engulfs here as while still on the ship, she sees herself and her friends arriviving to board the 1930′s liner.

Creep and Severance are two of the best horror films to come out in the last decade. Both are Directed by Christopher Smith, and with his current flick Triangle, proves he is force to be reckoned within the genre. Working with his biggest budget, he turns the ocean into a threatening entity with its murky darkness and bleak atmosphere. The interior of the ship has a distinct ambience that would best be described as the Overlook Hotel on a cruise ship. The creepiest shot in the film is where a character realizes that the events that are taking place cannot be undone, and while dying, falls to the ground into a pile of her own corpses.

Melissa George (The Amityville Horror) shines in her role as a single mom of a autistic son who just wants to get home to him. She also scored horndog points for wearing some skimpy jean shorts throughout the film. Boing!

The CG was well done for the most part, and didn’t look any worse than what was seen in the megabudget George Clooney vehicle The Perfect Storm.

This is not a truly original piece though. Astute fans will notice the time travel aspects and the masked killer were heavily lifted from Nacho Vigalondo’s Timecrimes. The story also becomes quite redundant as you see the events taking place from different points of view, then Triangle slowly starts going in circles.

If you are a sucker (like me) for oceanbound fright flicks like Death Ship, Virus, and Ghost Ship, then Triangle is a cruise worth taking.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars

Twitter is an amazing thing. It is a social networking tool, connecting people and building friendships among followers. But in the celebrity world, it’s also a bridge, connecting them to their fans and those fans to each other – all in 140 characters or less.

For a celebrity, Twitter is a powerful form of communication. It can be used for promotional purposes, as in tweeting a photo from filming of a new movie. It can be used to support charities and organizations they care about, as in tweeting links to fundraisers and other ways to help. It also can be used for news purposes, as in tweeting about engagements or, sadly, break-ups.

And the power of it can be felt. Actor Peter Facinelli has issued two challenges via Twitter, and both were successful. He made a bet with a friend that if he reached 500,000 followers by a certain date, that friend had to dance on Hollywood Blvd. in a bikini to Beyonce’s Single Ladies. Facinelli won, and you can watch the dance at YouTube.com. Three months later, he promised to have one of two co-stars send out a tweet from his account when he got to 1 million followers. He did, and his “son” sent out a message to those 1 million followers.

Actress and singer Miley Cyrus abruptly closed her Twitter account last week, saying that boyfriend Liam Hemsworth wanted her to “with good reason.” Of course, within no time, #mileycomeback was the No. 1 trending topic on Twitter. I can’t help but wonder if it’s actually a good thing that she’s not sharing her private life with her more than 2 million (former) followers. Her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, however, is pleading with her to return to Twitter, saying, “You can’t leave everyone now.”

Dame Elizabeth Taylor is still with us on Twitter, though, after heart surgery last week. She let her followers know that she was going in for the operation and let them know afterward that everything “went perfectly.” I am certain many additional prayers went her way because of those tweets.

Twitter was also how I found out that Backstreet Boy Brian Littrell was diagnosed with swine flu and is on the mend. He’s been keeping fans updated on his condition via his account. And, by the way, Backstreet’s back (all right!) with another album, This is Us. I’m keeping the pride alive, but am I the only who feels like it’s just not the same without Kevin Richardson?

As much as I love Twitter, sometimes things do get lost in translation, so to speak. On Friday, tweets went out from entertainment news sources that Heidi Klum had given birth to her fourth child. But that was a bit, well, premature. Her representatives said her latest bundle of joy had not arrived at that point. In this case, good news travels maybe a little too fast!

Of course, everyone wants their entertainment news instantly. And if you’re not following Killer Film at twitter.com/Killer_Film – or me at twitter.com/AccentOnLife – you should. Get the good scoop first!

Krista Richmond is a journalist and pop culture enthusiast. Have a question, suggestion or hot gossip tip? Send them to her at krista@killerfilm.com.
