I’m extremely excited to say that Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows is every bit as good as the first Holmes film. This time Holmes and Watson test the limits of their friendship, while following the clues left by Moriarty, who is doing his best to thrust Europe into war. Moriarty is the villain I’ve been waiting for. He is the perfect adversary for Holmes. Matching his wit, and finally giving Holmes a challenge fitting of his intellect. In general this film takes everything from the first film and ups the adrenaline factor. Guy Ritchie has really out done himself with this one.

It goes without saying that Robert Downey Jr. is fantastic in his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes, but the rest of the cast is pretty amazing as well. For my money the standout performance of the movie goes to Jared Harris for his wickedly awesome Professor James Moriarty. He brought a charm to the role that has me hoping to see him in future sequels, providing it performs at the box office. Stephen Fry is another stellar actor that rocked the screen as Sherlock’s eccentric brother, Mycroft, who enjoys prancing around his house in the nude. Of course Jude Law made Watson cool, and the supporting cast was fantastic. However, the one performance that felt a little flat for me was that of Noomi Rapace as Madam Simza Heron. She’s sexy, and obviously does an adequate job, but compared to Rachel McAdams’ Irene Adler she’s as lackluster as pancakes without syrup.

I can’t wait to revisit this film on Blu-ray so I can obsess over every minute detail. I know this hyper active super Holmes isn’t for everyone, but I am totally enthralled by what Guy Ritchie and his team have accomplished with this franchise. Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows is absolutely a killer film.

It has been teased and teased but now it is finally here, the official trailer for Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows has hit. We’ve got an embed for you below, and Apple Trailers have the HD version available as well.

The film will be released on the 16th of December and it stars Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, Noomi Rapace, Jared Harris, Eddie Marsan, Stephen Fry and Gilles Lellouche.

Sherlock Holmes has always been the smartest man in the room…until now. There is a new criminal mastermind at large–Professor Moriarty (Jared Harris)–and not only is he Holmes’ intellectual equal, but his capacity for evil, coupled with a complete lack of conscience, may actually give him an advantage over the renowned detective.

An action-thriller centered on the threat posed by a deadly disease and an international team of doctors contracted by the CDC to deal with the outbreak.

The film is looking at an October 21st release later this year, and it stars Matt Damon, Jude Law, Bryan Cranston, John Hawkes, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Winslet and Marion Cotillard.

While speaking with Empire Magazine about his upcoming projects, Law stated that “It looks likely that we’re going to shoot the second Sherlock Holmes in October.”This must mean that Guy Ritchie is almost done with the script, and that we should be hearing official casting announcements soon. It’s assumed that Moriarty will be Holmes’ new nemesis, but the actor doesn’t know who will be the villain just yet. With the many novels to choose ideas from, it could be any number of characters.

Sherlock Holmes 2 is scheduled for a December 2011 release.

Guess what folks? This has happened before and will happen again, and I really don’t see what the big deal is. For one thing, while I agree that Repo! The Genetic Opera has flashfire imagery that hits you right in the retina, the crooning is painful and kills any momentum the film has going for it. I’m sure that this sounds sacrilegious to all the die-hards out there, but I don’t care because I march to the beat of my own drum. In the end, this film bootlicked the Goth community and they took the bait, hook, line and sinker.

Maybe the people who are doing all this complaining need to be reminded about the phenomena of comparable storylines that leap into production around the same period of time. Do you remember Volcano and Dante’s Peak? How about Armageddon and Deep Impact? There was also the three-peat that was The Abyss, Leviathan, and Deepstar Six. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Repo Men takes place in the near future where a biomedical firm called ‘The Union’  has set up business where you can buy artificial organs for a hefty price. You can make the payment on credit, but if you start falling behind on your newly found debt you don’t get sent to a collection agency. Instead, a ‘Repo Man’ will pay you a visit and slice and dice the artificial organ right from your body. Childhood pals and veterans of the war Remy (Jude Law) and Jake (Forest Whitaker) are the best in the business. On a routine mission Remy suffers a heart attack after receiving a jolt of electricity from a ‘faulty’ defribillator.

Remy goes back to work and quickly finds out that he has lost his skills and suffers from a major case of surgeon’s block. No longer able to to do his job that he once excelled at, he is in a race against time to come up with the dough to keep up his payments or have his heart ripped out by his best friend.

There is one thing about Repo Men that you will never find out from just watching the ads. This flick has to do with a man who has lost his family because of his chosen profession. That, along with the almost buddy cop style banter between Law and Whitaker brought back memories of the comedic bromance between Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines in Running Scared - one of my favorite comedies. Those moments are far and few, and what we are left with is a hodgepodge of clichés and predictability.

Repo Men has its heart (no pun intended) in the right place, but it’s just so unclear on what genre it wants to be. The writing is flimsy and when you are genre hopping you need to tighten the script as tight as a sparrow’s ass or you will lose your audience fast. One minute it’s a sci-fi thriller and the next it’s high-tech horror. Repo! fans exult. You can drop the pitchforks and torches because Repo Men will not stain your modern day version of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Paltrow can next be seen on the big screen in the upcoming Marvel Studios and Paramount Pictures summer tent pole movie Iron Man 2. The Jon Farveau directed film will be presented in regular screens and on IMAX this May 7th.

Among the projects that he’s pushed to the side right now is Liberace and the spy feature Knockout, now completely floating about in development as Soderbergh throws Contagion on the fast track. The script for Contagion is penned by Scott Z. Burns, who’s better known for his script work in The Bourne Ultimatum and The Informant!.
