The new Oldboy has a script adapted by Mark Protosevich, who will co-produce. Roy Lee and Doug Davison will produce via Vertigo Entertainment with Lee’s 40 Acres & A Mule. Mandate president Nathan Kahane will executive produce. Originally, DreamWorks was looking to pick up remake rights in 2008, with the idea that Steven Spielberg would direct Will Smith. The story centers on a man who is kidnapped on his daughter’s birthday and held for 15 years in solitary confinement without explanation. He is eventually released and sets out on a path to take revenge on those who destroyed his life.

Christian Bale was rumored to appear as the film’s villain, but no word yet.

Now with that news comes a bit more on the project, with who is at the top of the wishlist pile to play the role that Choi Min-Sik made so iconic. It turns out to be none other than Josh Brolin, however no formal offers have been made at this time. With this news breaking expect to see and hear more about it, and whether or not an actual offer will go ahead for Brolin.

Personally I really like the sound of him in this role, he is such a strong actor and if anyone can pull this one off it’d be him.

The plot see Agent J (Will Smith) traveling back in time to save Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones in present day, Josh Brolin in the past) from Yaz (Jermaine Clement). The scenes being shot this week will feature those set during the present day, and will pick back up with the scenes set in the past in February. Featuring time-travel in a film’s plot tends to create plot holes, and is rather tricky to get right. The delay isn’t likely to affect the film’s scheduled release in May of 2012.

The villain that Clement will portray will be a “nightmare biker who looks like Dennis Hopper and Satan”, named Yaz. The character isn’t meant to be funny, and is described as “oozing badassery and violence”.Brolin will portray a twenty-six year old Agent K, but will probably use CG to make him look  younger. The film will include time travel, but the Joblo writer states “there’s no real need for it to make perfect sense since the tone of the series is so goofy.”

Jimi Hendrix, Castro, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Andy Warhol will be revealed as aliens. The film will also involve the use of an iPhone as a means of time-travel.  Etan Cohen wrote the script, with David Koepp re-writing. Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald will serve as producers, with Steven Spielberg as executive producer. The film will see Barry Sonnenfeld return as director, and will be presented in 3-D. Shooting is tentatively set for this fall.

Men In Black 3-D will open on May 25, 2012.

Like the title hero, the film quickly bares its mark that we will judge it by. It’s a lean 81-if that-minutes on a skeleton of a story. Outside of an extended opening exposition, Crank‘s Neveldine & Taylor’s script is literally just scraps on the bone of the lesser known, but popular comic book. Outside of Hex’s back story, we really know nothing more about him, his relationship with a whore, or his mysterious abilities. The film was subject of reshooting and editing, almost all the way to its release, yet if anything, it doesn’t hurt the film like one would expect. The film glides by with some pulpy action hero antics, with Josh Brolin grunting his way as a Snake Plissken-like character with a heart. John Malkovich is grand and loud as a pissed off old Confederate, and Megan Fox sizzles and proves that “no Michael Bay, no problem”, as she showcases some action chops. Michael Fessbender steals his scenes as well.

Jonah Hex in this form we see at the theater just doesn’t give the actors much to do. It’s broad strokes and that, to me, is the shame of the film. If the film offered more to some of these relationships and subplots, Jonah Hex could have been a bigger blast. Laced with a rocking score from the alt-metal band Mastodon, the film offers that low-rent B-level entertainment Roger Corman used to give us many years ago. Much like the dime books 150 years ago, we still like rotting our brains for a Hamilton. Jonah Hex isn’t destined to ‘wow’ all, just those who are looking for some late night cheap thrills on the TV. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing, son.

Flight of the Conchords

Barry Sonnenfeld is directing once more with Will Smith back on board reprising his role as Jay and Josh Brolin attached to play a younger version of Kay (Tommy Lee Jones). There’s no word on when principal photography will start, but since Columbia Pictures is settling the release date for this picture to be within 2012, don’t expect for them to start filming anytime soon.

Jemaine Clement will be doing the voice of Tim in the voice star-studded animated film Despicable Me, releasing in theaters on July 9th.

Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith are reprising their roles once more, but along with that there’s also rumor that Josh Brolin is being eyed by Columbia to play a younger version of Jones’ Agent K, says Collider. Set to direct the picture is Barry Sonnenfeld  from the script written by Etan Cohen. Read on to see what the head of Sony’s marketing says on the interesting new announcement.:
