Now, Variety is reporting that Joel Silver (The Matrix Trilogy, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows) will be developing a live-action theatrical film based upon the title as a “potential franchise starter“. The last TV show Silver developed to the big screen was Speed Racer, but he’s determined to not make the same mistakes with this film.

For those unfamiliar with the franchise, Ben 10 is about “ten year old Ben Tennyson, his cousin Gwen, and their grandfather Max are on their summer camping trip, Ben finds an alien pod on the ground. When he examines it he finds a mysterious watch-like device called the Omnitrix. The device permanently attaches itself to his wrist giving him the ability to transform into a variety of alien life-forms each with its own unique powers. Ben soon realizes that he has a responsibility to use his abilities to help others. Along with Gwen and Grandpa Max, Ben embarks on a summer-long adventure to fight evil both extraterrestrial and terrestrial” (via Wikipedia). Nothing else is known about the film, but could be taking its cast from the previous live-action films.

There was talk about doing a Lethal Weapon 5 date back to 2005. Shane Black was hired to pen the script, with Joel Silver and Danny Glover interested in returning. However, it was Mel Gibson who wasn’t convinced about doing another sequel.

Things seem to have changed recently, as What’s Playing reports that Gibson and Joel Silver have begun talks about doing another sequel.

The news comes from an anonymous source, who is writing for Type A Films. The recent scandal Gibson is tied to has made the actor unpopular, and “Mel probably needs Joel, not to mention Lethal Weapon now more than ever, so I wouldn’t at all be surprised if it comes off this time.” Getting attached to a popular franchise may be a good move for Gibson and “it probably would help Gibson, professionally-speaking,” the source said.

The source isn’t exactly sure just how things are progressing, and “you’re getting this third-hand”. This may turn out to be a rumor, so take it with a grain of salt.

Warner Bros Pictures wants a slice of the popular story Don Quixote as they push in development their own production on the tale. Sounds familiar? You bet your ass it is, mainly because there’s been an on again/off again production of Terry Gilliam’s The Man Who Killed Don Quixote in the pre-production pot for awhile. Now that the main cast has been assembled, and initial filming will finally go underway this September, it figures that a random curveball would come in like this.

Producer Joel Silver is teaming up with the mammoth studio Warner Bros to create a Pirates of Caribbean-style swashbuckling version of a story in which we discover that Don Quixote isn’t crazy and that there is, in fact, a fantasy world, says Pajiba. Here’s hoping they don’t take it seriously and push it off as a comedy if that’s the case. If it’s going to go crazy with production budget and other such things ala Pirates, who knows what will be the end result.

No word yet on who will be directing, or how soon Warner Bros wants to cough out this bad boy into theaters.

Now this feature is jumping into the pit of 3-D as MTV Movies Blog (via Arrow in the Head) squeezes a little bit of the plans swimming around producer Joel Silver’s noggin.:

“I’d like to make ‘Logan’s Run’ [in 3-D],” he said. “It’s a movie I’ve always been intrigued with, excited by. We’re writing a script now and that should be a big 3-D movie and it should be devised and shot in 3-D. I think if we can pull it together, then it would be.”

The remake, based off the 1976 science fiction film, recently wrangled up Carl Rinsch to direct. Rinsch has his hands full, because not only is he attached to Logan’s Run but is poised to take on Creature from the Black Lagoon and 47 Ronin. Still no word as to who will be writing up a script for this production.

Silver recently produced The Book of Eli and the comic book adapted film The Losers. He’s attached to several other films currently in production, including Unknown White Male, Project X and The Apparition.

Do you think that Logan’s Run could work in 3D? Or are you one of those who’s sick and tired of every other film getting the green light to go into the third dimension?

Rock is yet another comic book adapted feature that’s making its way slowly but surely onto the big screen. It’s still in the midst of development, but that doesn’t stop producer Joel Silver gabbing away about what’s going on with the script. Dark Horizons found out the latest on the war based action feature and what is being changed up.:

Silver says “It’s a little bit in the future. As a war movie, it’s not going to be ‘where it’s been,’ it’s going to be ‘where it’s going.’ We didn’t want to do Iraq, we didn’t want to do a contemporary war. We wanted to do a sort of futuristic war.”

The famed producer adds “It’s pretty strong. Chad St. John wrote the script and we’ve got Francis Lawrence involved in developing it with us. It’s not a ‘go’ movie yet but I’m feeling good about it.”

Sgt. Rock is set in World War II, which will make the entire back setting change up a lot if they decide to go along with this script change. I Am Legend director Francis Lawrence is expected to direct the film, if it jumps out of the bowels of development, with an estimated 2012 release date.

Running along the same vein of “Paranormal Activity” and “The Fourth Kind”, Dark Castle Entertainment possibly is striking while the iron is hot within this sub genre of sorts with horror movies. Joel Silver is producing under Dark Castle and joining along with that is Alex Heineman and Andrew Rona.

This project will be written and directed by Todd Lincoln who is also a producer for this film. Dark Castle Entertainment is currently attached to the upcoming released film “Ninja Assassin” along with new projects such as “Unknown White Male” and “The Losers” which is in the middle of filming.
If you grew up in the 80′s, you definitely know who He-Man is (and of course his twin sister She-Ra, for us girls). You also probably can’t help but get at least a little excited at the prospect of a new Masters of the Universe live-action film. (No, the first one was not good, but try again, right?)

Well, hold off on your excitement. Warner Brothers has just backed out of the planned collaboration with Mattel for the film, so we won’t be getting that one just yet (or maybe not at all). Warner Bros. and producer Joel Silver have been working on this project since 2007 but apparently Mattel and WB have not been in agreement over the direction of the project and decided “to let the option lapse this month.”

Mattel is now trying to get another studio on board for the film. The plan is for director John Stevenson (Kung Fu Panda), who had already signed on, to remain attached to the project. However, Joel Silver will not be involved as he is exclusive to Warner Bros. so a new producer will be needed.

I’m hoping by the Powers of Grayskull that this gets moving because whether it turns out to be a good movie or not, it’s still great childhood memories (except for Stinkor, he always made everything smell like skunk).
