One would kind of hope to get a cool first picture for the much talked about Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck directed thriller The Tourist, but wishes don’t always come true. Instead we get an image of Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp simply just looking good in front of the camera. Well, that in itself is greatly marketable so go figure.

Frank (Depp) is an American tourist visiting Italy to mend a broken heart. Elise (Jolie) is an extraordinary woman who deliberately crosses his path. Against the breathtaking backdrop of Venice, Frank pursues a potential romance but soon finds himself the pursued as he and Elise are caught in a whirlwind of intrigue and danger.

The Tourist is shipping it’s way into theaters everywhere on February 16th, 2011 from Columbia Pictures. Go on, look at the image below (via CS!).:

Kruger heads the Special Forces

Inglourious Basterds actress Diane Kruger keeps her schedule overflowing as she latches on to take the lead role in the StudioCanal picture Special Forces. The low budget feature has Kruger as a French journalist kidnapped by the Taliban (Variety). She joins up on a cast that already includes Benoit Magimel, Djimon Hounsou, Raphael Personnaz and Denis Menochet. There’s no word at the moment when filming is expected to start, but attached to produce the picture is Thierry Marro and Benoit Ponsaille.

The film properties that are already under the StudioCanal wing as a production company include Donald Petrie’s Where Rainbows End and Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck’s The Tourist. Kruger recently wrapped filming her role as Gina in Jaume Collet-Serra’s upcoming thriller Unknown White Male, set to be released sometime in 2011.

Splash News and Coming Soon reveal to us the latest set picture for the upcoming Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck thriller The Tourist. We get a better look at the two leads Angelina Jolie and a very Don Juan de Marco looking Johnny Depp.

The story revolves around Frank (Depp), an American tourist visiting Italy to mend a broken heart. Elise (Jolie) is an extraordinary woman who deliberately crosses his path as the casual encounter turns into an entanglement far more dangerous than expected. Written by Julian Fellowes, Christopher McQuarrie and Jeffrey Nachmanoff, the feature is scheduled to be released in theaters sometime in 2011 under GK Films and Columbia Pictures.

Sewell and Bettany join Tourist

Rufus Sewell and Paul Bettany are the latest additions to the Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck directed film The Tourist, currently in the middle of filming says Variety. They cling onto the production as the last casting puzzle pieces of the feature that stars Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp.

The story revolves around Frank (Depp), an American tourist visiting Italy to mend a broken heart. Elise (Jolie) is an extraordinary woman who deliberately crosses his path. The script is written by Julian Fellowes along with Christopher McQuarrie and Jeffrey Nachmanoff. Graham King is producing under his GK Films label with Roger Birnbaum, Gary Barber, Jonathan Glickman and Tim Headington.

The Tourist is poised for a 2011 release date under Columbia Pictures with Spyglass Entertainment and Studio Canal. Bettany recently has been lurking around the big screen for the past couple of months, first in the period piece The Young Victoria and then in the supernatural thriller feature Legion.

The upcoming Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck directed feature The Tourist is currently underway in principal photography. That means only one thing, and that’s the inevitable revealing of set pictures, which is just what were getting today from Collider. We get a better look at star Angelina Jolie prancing around on set with her high heels looking as sophisticated and gorgeous as she can be as usual.

The story is about an American tourist who is used by an Interpol agent in an attempt to flush out a criminal with whom she once had an affair. Co-starring along side Jolie is Johnny Depp from the GK Films and Columbia Pictures feature. Set to come out sometime in 2011, check out the new pictures below.:

Von Donnersmarck being a Tourist again

Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck is landing back into the lap of production for The Tourist as he takes on the directing reigns once more. The Lives of Others director fell out of the project in the fall of 2009 due to creative differences, but apparently something behind the scenes must have convinced him to latch himself back onto this particular project. The picture stars Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie and is written by Julian Fellowes who’s recent work includes The Young Victoria.

Jolie will play an Interpol agent who draws an unwitting tourist (Depp) into her attempt to locate a criminal who was once her lover, Variety reports. Producing the feature is Graham King and Tim Headington and is eyeing a spring start date for initial filming. The GK Films and Columbia Pictures film is setting themselves up for a to be announced 2011 release date.

Casting is really starting to crack down for now that Johnny Depp is in talks to be in “The Tourist”. If the famed actor signs on, he will share the screen with “Salt” lead Angelina Jolie in the thriller. Depp is negotiating to play an American tourist drawn into a web of intrigue by a female Interpol agent (Jolie) who is attempting to locate a criminal who was once her lover (Variety). Sam Worthington was originally eyeballing the lead role but dropped out along with director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck which leaves both slots open.

There is no director signed on for the project at the moment which is being pushed for an early 2010 filming date. The feature is under Spyglass Entertainment and Columbia Pictures. Graham King is producing under GK Films with Tim Headington, Gary Barber, Roger Birnbaum and Johnathan Glickman also producing. If an acting duo like Jolie and Depp were to happen onscreen, it would be a filmmaker’s wet dream. Then again, many suspected for that to happen with Depp when he joined up with several others in the summer release of “Public Enemies” and it slid into oblivion after a couple of weeks. The film is expected to be released sometime in 2011.
