The feature is off of the 1966 film that starred Shirley MacLaine and Michael Caine in the feature directed by Ronald Neame. In the feature, Caine played a cat burglar who tries to rob a billionaire of his priceless statue and enlists the help of a waitress who is a dead ringer for the victim’s late wife. While the burglar has carefully planned the job in his head, the execution is complicated by his relationship with his pretty accomplice (Deadline).

Liman is completing the Sean Penn and Naomi Watts film Fair Game for a yet to be announced 2010 release date, but nothing else is set in stone for the director on any new projects. Mike Lobell is producing the picture, and after waiting impatiently with finding a director he could possibly have his shot at finally getting this feature made.

Currently the Coen brothers are in the middle of filming the remake True Grit, starring Jeff Bridges, Josh Brolin, Matt Damon, Barry Pepper and Hailee Steinfeld. The western is set for a Christmas Day release this year under Paramount Pictures.

In it, Rae will be playing the role of Emmett Quincy, the newest addition to a cast that includes Jeff Bridges, Josh Brolin, Barry Pepper, Hailee Steinfeld and Matt Damon. The picture, written and directed by the Cohen brothers, is based off of the novel by Charles Portis.

Following the murder of her father by hired hand Tom Chaney, 14-year-old farm girl Mattie Ross (Steinfeld) sets out to capture the killer. To aid her, she hires the toughest U.S. marshal she can find, a man with “true grit,” Reuben J. “Rooster” Cogburn (Bridges). Mattie insists on accompanying Cogburn, whose drinking, sloth, and generally reprobate character do not augment her faith in him. Against his wishes, she joins him in his trek into the Indian Nations in search of Chaney. They are joined by Texas Ranger LaBoeuf (Damon), who wants Chaney for his own purposes. The unlikely trio find danger and surprises on the journey, and each has his or her “grit” tested.

Rae will play a member of Ned Pepper’s gang in the feature under Paramount Pictures. Principal photography is already underway for the flick, set to be released on December 25th.

The picture already stars Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon and Josh Brolin in the main roles of the re-imagining of the 1966 original that was directed by Henry Hathaway.

The key missing puzzle was Mattie Ross, the brassy teenager in the film who gets the plot and story rolling when her father is murdered by his cowardly farm hand (Brolin) and she then hires a drunkenirascible U.S. Marshall (Bridges) to track him down. A hard-nosed Texas Ranger (Matt Damon), already on the man’s tail eventually joins there pursuit (The Playlist).

The picture, penned by the Coen brothers, is being produced by Scott Rudin with a December 25th release date from Paramount Pictures.
