New images scream Bel Ami

You know that there’s going to be a significant number of women/girls who will flock over to movie theaters to see Robert Pattinson play a suave young man who seduces the hell out of women for other means. Maybe these images from Collider will entice you some more to go and check out the Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod film when it released in theaters.

Bel Ami also stars the talents of Uma Thurman, Kristin Scott Thomas and Christina Ricci. The script, penned by Rachel Bennette, is based off the novel of the same title by Guy de Maupassant.

Young, attractive and very ambitious George Duroy (Pattinson), known to his friends as Bel-Ami, is offered a job as a journalist on La Vie francaise and soon makes a great success of his new career. But he also comes face to face with the realities of the corrupt society in which he lives – the sleazy colleagues, the manipulative mistresses and wily financiers – and swiftly learns to become an arch-seducer, blackmailer and social climber in a world where love is only a means to an end.

Ricci finds her Bel Ami

Christina Ricci is the newest addition to the growing cast of the Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod directed feature entitled Bel Ami. The story is about a chronicle of a young man’s rise to power in Paris via his manipulation of the city’s most influential and wealthy women.Ricci will be playing the role of Clotide, reports Production Weekly. She will be joining the cast that includes Robert Pattinson, Uma Thurman, and Kristin Scott Thomas.

Produced by Uberto Pasolini, the feature is slated to begin production possibly sometime by the summer with a to be announce 2011 release date. The next film that Ricci will be shown in is the Tom Brady directed comedy Born to Be a Star.

Thurman cuddles up with Bel Ami

Uma Thurman signs on to co-star alongside Twilight heartthrob Robert Pattinson in the novel adaptation of Bel Ami. The story, written by Guy de Maupassant, centers on Paris journalist Georges Duroy with his rise to fame through means of snaking his way in and out of relationships with powerful and influential mistresses. Also jumping into the cast is Confession of a Shopaholic‘s Kristin Scott Thomas. THR has more on the plot:

Thurman plays the wife of Duroy’s friend, a woman who is extremely involved and connected in the goings-on of Parisian society. She helps Duroy in his ascent, later becoming his wife. Thomas plays a socialite who falls for Duroy, becoming clingy in the process.

The film will be produced by Uberto Pasolini under Redwave Films with newcomer Declan Donnellan directing. Thurman will be appearing in the fantasy film Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief while Pattinson is appearing in Twilight Saga: New Moon and the drama Remember Me. As much as it pains me to admit this, Robert Pattinson seems to be making decent acting choices in order to ensure that he has a career once the Twilight gravy train ends.
