How to Train Your Dragon sequel sets a date

The DreamWorks Animation feature How to Train Your Dragon is enough of a success to inevitably warrant itself a sequel with a 2013 release date. With a domestic intake so far of nearly $180 Million, it’s not that much of a surprise that DreamWorks decided to give the okay for this. Continue reading to see what Jeffrey Katzenberg says about the decision (via CS!).:

“2010 is off to a strong start, thanks in large part to the performance of ‘How to Train Your Dragon,’ which – having grossed nearly $375 million to date in worldwide box office – has become DreamWorks Animation’s next franchise. We plan to release the sequel theatrically in 2013,” said Jeffrey Katzenberg, CEO of DreamWorks Animation. “3D continues to have a tremendous impact on the industry at large and we are now looking forward with great anticipation to bringing ‘Shrek Forever After,’ the final chapter in our beloved ‘Shrek’ series and the first in 3D, to audiences across the globe next month.”

How to Train Your Dragon, directed by Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois, is still out in theaters and in 3D for all to see. Check your local theater show times if you want to catch another peek of Hiccup (voiced by Jay Baruchel) and the gang on the big screen while you still can.

Dragons topple over Kick-Ass

In a surprising upset over this past weekend, the DreamWorks Animation feature How to Train Your Dragon managed to quickly take the number one spot in the box office this weekend away from the comic book adapted film Kick-Ass. The Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois directed picture took in $20 Million, barely flying past the second spot which Kick-Ass remained in with $19.7 Million. With the over-abundance of raves the Matthew Vaugh’s film got, you would have expected a little more bank, but that’s not always the case.

Then we make our way over to the remake sector with the Neil LaBute helmed Death at a Funeral, which definitely took in a nice chunk of change this weekend with $17 Million. Check out the rest of the weekend totals from Box Office Mojo.:

If your into all things Cheech and Chong, you’ll be happy to know that on 4/20 their newest movie Cheech and Chong’s Hey Watch This is released in limited theaters. On this upcoming Friday there are the two big wide releases of The Losers and The Back-Up Plan. Within the realm of limited for that Friday is Paper Man, A Shine of Rainbows, In My Sleep and the Austin release of Best Worst Movie, set to expand in theaters in New York on May 14th and Los Angeles on May 21rst.

DreamWorks Animation is coming out with yet another new entertaining family film in the form of How to Train Your Dragon. The Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois directed feature includes the voice talents of Jay Baruchel, Kristen Wiig, America Fererra, Gerard Butler and many others.

Set in the mythical world of burly Vikings and wild dragons, and based on the book by Cressida Cowell, the action comedy tells the story of Hiccup, a Viking teenager who doesn’t exactly fit in with his tribe’s longstanding tradition of heroic dragon slayers. Hiccup’s world is turned upside down when he encounters a dragon that challenges him and his fellow Vikings to see the world from an entirely different point of view.

DreamWorks Animation is at it again, this time with the upcoming release of the cutely animated film How to Train Your Dragon. The film stars the voice talents of Jay Baruchel, Gerard Butler and America Ferrera just to name a few.

The story is about a boy named Hiccup, a Viking teenager who doesn’t exactly fit in with his tribe’s longstanding tradition of heroic dragon slayers. Hiccup’s world is turned upside down when he encounters a dragon that challenges he and his fellow Vikings to see the world from an entirely different point of view.

Yahoo! Movies yet again brings us the latest trailer, this time for the new DreamWorks Animation film “How to Train Your Dragon”. The film is directed by Lilo and Stitch director Dean DeBlois and Chris Sanders who did the voice of Stitch. Starring the voice talents of Jay Baruchel, Gerard Butler, Jonah Hill, Craig Ferguson, this film will be released in theaters on March 26, 2010. Check out the trailer below.:
