Superman Hompage (via Comic Book Movies) reports that word from an “inside source”, Warner is looking to have Chris Columbus helm the film. An offer has apparently been sent out to the director. The “inside source” indicates WB feels Columbus is “the right fit” for the job. David Goyer and Jon Nolan were originally wanted, but neither Legendary Pictures or WB thought he would be a good choice.

There’s no word if Columbus will accept the offer or if he’s even been offered the job. Columbus’  has recently directed Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief and the first two Harry Potter films. There may be some truth to this as the film is scheduled for a December 2012 release, and no director has been set. Jon Nolan was said to be taking the director’s chair, but I think fans would want someone with more directorial experience on this project.

The film is being produced by Christopher Nolan, who is writing the script with David Goyer and Jon Nolan. The film is also reportedly going to released in 3-D.

Update: Collider received word from “trusted sources” that Columbus has NOT been offered the job to direct.

“KILLER PIZZA, which is based on the young-adult novel by Greg Taylor, is an action-packed, coming-of-age comedy about a 14-year-old boy who lands a summer job at Killer Pizza — where such pies as the Monstrosity and the Frankensausage are on the menu — but quickly learns it’s a front for a monster-hunting organization.”

If cast, Lowell will take on the role of Skeeter’s (Emma Stone) boyfriend, Stuart Whitworth, a senator’s son who eventually breaks up with her because of the book (THR). This will be Tate Taylor’s feature film directorial debut with Michael Barnathan, Chris Columbus and Mark Radcliffe producing under 1492 Pictures. Principal photography is set to commence this summer in Mississippi.

Lowell currently takes on the role of William ‘Dell’ Parker in the popular television series Private Practice.

Howard is part of a cast that already includes Emma Stone and Viola Davis from the picture being directed by Tate Taylor. Taylor wrote up the screen play off of the novel by Kathryn Stockett. Producing is Mark Radcliffe, Chris Columbus and Michael Barnathan under 1492 Pictures. The actress will next appear on the big screen as the blood thirsty Victoria in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, set to be released on June 30th. The Help is currently being written for the big screen by Tate Taylor off the novel by Kathryn Stockett. The story, set in Jackson, Miss., in the early 1960s, explores how the unspoken code of behavior governing Southern households is shattered when an aspiring writer interviews a maid, who speaks candidly about her experiences. The interview sets off shock waves that reverberate across the entire community (Variety).

Viola is going to appear in a few films within the remainder of this year, a couple of them being Knight and Day, Eat Pray Love and It’s Kind of a Funny Story.
