Sin City 2 may just end up being one of those sequels many want, but never get. But hopefully we hear something from Rodriguez soon.

Faster has just gotten itself 3 brand new clips, which give us a bit more in-sight into the film. Along side Johnson the film also stars Billy Bob Thornton, Maggie Grace, Tom Berenger and Carla Gugino. It is set for release on the 24th of this month.

An ex-con sets out to avenge his brother’s death after they were double-crossed during a heist years ago. During his campaign, however, he’s tracked by a veteran cop and an egocentric hit man.

The LA  Times reports that Gugino is in negotiations to star in the lead for a film titled MILF, but it’s not what you are thinking. For this film, the acronym stands for ‘Mother I’d Like To Fight’. The story centers on a woman, who is released from prison to take revenge.

Alix Taylor and Alexandre Aja (Piranha 3-D) will be producing the project. Franck Khalfoun (P2) will be directing the project. There’s no word on production is set to begin.

The Zack Snyder and Steve Shibuya written script centers on a little girl (Browning) who is trying to hide from the pain caused by her evil stepfather and lobotomy. She ends up in mental institution and while there she starts to imagine alternative reality. She plans to escape from that imaginary world but to do that she needs to steal five objects before she is caught by a vile man.

Emily Browning heads the cast that includes Carla Gugino, Vanessa Hudgens, Jena Malone, Jamie Chung, Abbie Cornish, Michael Jai White and Jon Hamm.

Carla Gugino and the rest of the cast light up the screen, adding more to a nicely put together storyline. Centering on ten women and what troublesome situations each one of them has to go through, for a majority of the film it flows evenly. There are a couple of hiccups with how long certain character’s story arcs take place and the one that stood out the most in my head is Marley Shelton’s funny but brief role. Minor set backs in the end do not completely kill this from being a fun romp through Los Angeles as you deal with porn stars, wives and sisters. Sebastian Gutierrez proves that he can write and direct more than action with his offbeat and insightful viewpoint into these women’s lives.

One of the things that stood out for me like a horribly sore thumb was the editing. You’ll have a soft and flowing string of cuts that help visually tell what is going on. Then, suddenly, several pictures collated together pop out of nowhere, so abrupt and loud it could throw you entirely out of the scene. It works on some aspects of the film, but not all the time and can be quite the distraction. Compared to the fine cast, interesting direction and style, it is a problem, but not so huge that it takes away from the overall experience of the movie.

This should not be labeled harshly as a romantic comedy or a chick flick, but more like a film just about women. This film contains, to me, a fine dash of heart over comedy not normally seen in a production with these kind of topics. By the time the film, and it’s special clip, is over you’ll be laughing and or interested enough to want more.

The Flick

I was a big fan of the Witch Mountain series as a kid, so I wasn’t really looking forward to checking out this reboot.  But my kid really wanted to see it, and I figured that microwave popcorn and a bad movie is better than no popcorn at all.  Only I was surprised to find myself enjoying the flick as well as the popcorn.

The story is pretty similar to the one used in the previous films.  Two mysterious children with superpowers (the secret is that the kids are actually aliens) enlist the help of a cab driver (Dwayne Johnson) and a smoking hot UFO expert (Carla Gugino) in order to complete their mission which of course could save the entire world.  The government is after them because it’s their job to chop up little green men, even if said green men look like 15 year old children, and this time around an evil alien hit man is after them as well.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was pretty good as the down on his luck cab driver that is having problems with the mob, and of course Carla Gugino was stupid hot.  The kids were pretty decent as well, and the ship looked retro-cool.  Sure the plot was simple, and family friendly, but it was still a fun flick.  Also, the original kids, Kim Richards and Ike Eisenmann made cameo appearances in the movie (I sorta geeked out when I saw them).

I’m not gonna spend loads of time trying to delve deep into the subtexts of the flick, but am going to say that if your a fan of the original movies, then this one will probably make you smile a little.  It’s not the best movie ever made, but it is a solid family flick, so I’d say that Race to Witch Mountain is a killer film.

Audio/Visual:

The video transfer is beautiful, filled with vibrant colors and solid detail.  The audio on on this disc is even better than the video.  It’s loud and clear, the visual effects and sound design are enhanced by the 5.1 mix.

Special Features:

Bloopers – The bloopers on this feature are pretty funny but there really could be more of them.

Deleted Scenes – The deleted scenes on here were deleted for a reason (they aren’t very good), but the do make for entertaining material.

DVD Copy – A standard definition DVD copy of the flick one of the extras in this package and I guess it’s cool if you suddenly decide that you don’t want to watch the beautiful blu-ray disc.

Digital Copy – Besides the DVD copy of the flick, this set comes complete with a digital copy as well.
