Well, Deadline is reporting that both Schwarzenegger and Willis have closed a deal to return, and will have “substantial” roles in the film. There’s no word on how big each actor’s role will be at this time. The Expendables 2 begins filming next month, and Arnold is filming The Last Stand with Jee-Won Kim, but Willis will be available to shoot before he begins work on Die Hard 5. But with a roster of even more great action stars, one can only wonder how awesome the sequel will be next year.

Filming is currently underway for a release on June 29th, 2012.

The Hollywood Reporter is saying that Willis has entered negotiations to play General Joe Colton, the person responsible for creating the G.I. Joe team. There’s no assurance that Willis will sign on, but it would definitely be an interesting choice for the film. Filming is scheduled to begin later this month, so we can expect a confirmation (or not) soon. He would join such new recruits as Dwayne Johnson, Adrianne Palicki, Ray Stevenson and RZA.

So, while Fox is figuring out who will direct this five-quel – and word is it’s Max Payne‘s director John Moore, Twitch has learned the plot outline of the film, which will see John McClane and son in Russia.

I for one, thought RED was a kick-ass action flick that needed a little more love. Thoughts?

Did anyone catch the “Dunk Contest” last night at the NBA All-Star festivities at the Staples Center in Los Angeles? From top to bottom the jams were amazing and out of this world. The weekend has become a surreal event, and now filmmaker Robert Rodriguez has teamed up with “The Black Mamba” himself, Kobe Bryant, for a mini-movie with some Grindhouse flair. Joining Kobe are some Rodriguez alumni like Bruce Willis and Danny Trejo.

During a gun/tumbling stun, the world’s most beautiful woman suffered a head injury – ultimately slicing her face. She is now permanently scarred from her work in this unexpected action masterpiece. Jolie shadowed a real spy, jumped off helicopters and kicked butt with absolutely no CGI assistance. Raw and aggressive, we believe Salt has elevated her to the next level of fast-paced action stardom.

Matt Damon in The Bourne Identity

Damon had never been in a physically demanding role up until he portrayed Jason Bourne. He ended up training for three months straight for this box office hit. He endured extensive weapons training, boxing, martial arts and crash simulations. On screen hand-to-hand combat and scaling walls ultimately changed his career forever, allowing him to be cast in more unrestrained scenarios.

Jackie Chan in everything!

Known for his amazing acrobatics and stunt work, Jackie Chan raised the bar by introducing a comedic approach in this well-loved movie. He holds the Guinness World Record for “Most Stunts By A Living Actor”, and his approach to physical humor helped create a modern-day sensation.

Bruce Willis in Die Hard

Who you argue with us if we called this film classic? No one would have thought that this was Willis’ first action flick at the time. The “hard” part was pretending that the movie was dangerous to film, when in all actuality – the possibility of liability issues kept everyone safe with harnesses and safety nets. Despite all the precautions, Mr. Willis wasn’t able to escape the nightmares about possible accidents happening on set.

Chris Pine in Unstoppable

Denzel Washington recommended Chris for the role of Will to director/producer Tony Scott. Fearless and resolute, Chris performed most of his own stunts in this high octane motion picture. That’s commendable considering that a train going 50 miles per hour would likely scare most people. If you don’t have any CGI, we guess you have to get down and dirty.

Not much else is known, outside of a script being rewritten by Skip Woods. Fox is keen on continuing the franchise, since it’s well-loved and the last installment in 2007 – Live Free Die Hard – made north of $350 million worldwide. Thoughts?

However, Espinosa is looking to begin work on Safe House this year with Ryan Reynolds and Denzel Washington, and it’s unknown if he would be available afterwards. The Playlist was able to contact Espinosa’s representatives about the news, and they can say that he isn’t even thinking about his next film just yet. But we can expect to hear more names soon.

The Film:

In a perfect world, we would honor the old-timers, show them respect, listen to their stories. But we’re a fast moving culture. A generation that demand our apps to be fast and our lives faster. We don’t got the time to age. In Hollywood, each actor and actress has an expiration date. Red, based on the DC Comics graphic novel by Warren Ellis, uses this as subtext, that’s shrink-wrapped over its action genre conventions. Red is an action movie that wasn’t allowed to be released in the summer, a great time to simply entertain the popcorn munchers. But like all good things, you can’t put a time table on it, and what Summit Entertainment has on its non-Twilight hands, is an action classic.

It isn’t a homage, but it plays off of the genre-defining high marks like one. It’s a simple “let’s clear our good name” story, mixed with a little political backdrop, but it also has its nose on the concept of age in our culture. The casting is pitch-perfect. Bruce Willis. Helen Mirren. Morgan Freeman. John Malkovich. Ernest Borgnine. Richard Dreyfuss. In a system, that believes younger is better, Red says “f*** you”. It’s tongue-in-cheek and it works. But the casting wasn’t a stunt like in The Expendables, because it was needed as Red stands for “retired: extremely dangerous”. But what ascends this into my bold statement in calling it an action classic – and kids now days throw that term around way too loosely – is the combination of the screenplay by the Hoeber Brothers (Whiteout) and director Richard Schwentke (Flightplan, Time Traveler’s Wife). Huh?

A perfect storm of clever writing, solid direction that has action that isn’t ruined by quick editing, and actors who understand the material and its subtext, makes Red worth every penny. Action can be so monotonous now days, because sometimes we need more than watching bullets fly. We like the characters, plain and simple, which goes a long way. But a film becomes a classic in time and with repeated viewings. Critics don’t make classics, normal people do. Red deserves the spot, I’m just saying. Funny, noisy, clever, Red proves that us 20-somethings still have a lot to learn. Retiring sucks. Old man, my ass.

The Blu-ray:

Audio/Video: Summit offers a superb HD presentation. Colors are vibrant, details are sharp, the blacks thick, nary a flaw in this transfer. The DTS track is even better. Loud, crisp, deep, everything you need from an action film in the audio department. I could rave all day on this fine BD disc, but I won’t: it’s just that stellar.

Commentary: Here’s a rather unique track. Foregoing the typical director or actor yaks, Summit allows retired CIA agent Robert Baer to discuss the film from his real-world perspective. He acted as an adviser for the film, offering plenty of real world info that makes watching the film fun. He is often engaging, yet struggles time to time, but you don’t mind.

Access: Red: Here’s your basic behind-the scenes info, with interviews, set footage, and CIA-related info in a picture-in-picture track. It’s a really good PiP track, with a timer, which is great. It lets the viewer know when a new pop-up will occur, aiding their enjoyment of both the film and the extra.

Some ho-hum Deleted Scenes and a VFX featurette (which is an Easter Egg: go to the special features tab on the main menu and press the down arrow key on the remote) round out the extras.
