Perkins goes from Weeds to Hop

Elizabeth Perkins will be quickly making her way off of the hit Showtime series Weeds and into features once more. She’s walking off the show in order to go on and be part of the cast in the live action and CGI animation comedy I Hop. This comes as a bit of a surprise, given the fact that she’s garnered a lot of attention for her role as Celia Hodes with three Emmy and two Golden Globe nominations.

Directed by Tim Hill, the picture centers on an out of work man (James Marsden) who accidentally ends up hitting the Easter Bunny (voiced by Russell Brand) with a car. Due to this, it’s up to him to go and save Easter.

Perkins will play Marsden’s exasperated mother in the Universal Pictures/Illumination Entertainment feature, says THR. The script was penned by Cinco Paul, Brian Lynch and Ken Daurio. No word yet on when filming will start, but the release date is already set to April 1rst, 2011.

Cuoco goes for I Hop

Kaley Cuoco, best known for her acting in the hit CBS show The Big Bang Theory is finally making her way onto the big screen as she lands her first big role in the upcoming comedy I Hop. The feature is being directed by Tim Hill from the story written by Brian Lynch, Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio.

The tale is about an out-of-work slacker (James Marsden) who accidentally injures the son of the Easter Bunny (voiced by Russell Brand) and must take him in as he recovers. Cuoco will play Marsden’s sister, who allows Marsden to live with her when he gets kicked out by his parents, and finds herself dealing with the injured heir to the Easter Bunny throne (THR).

The live action/CGI animation hybrid comedy is expected to come out in theaters on April 1rst, 2011 from Universal Pictures.

Marsden signs on to Hop

James Marsden is the latest to sign up on the CGI animation and live action hybrid comedy called I Hop. He technically co-stars alongside Russell Brand, though that could be debatable. The story is about an out-of-work slacker (Marsden) who accidentally injures the Easter Bunny (voiced by Brand) and must take him in as he recovers. As Fred struggles with the world’s worst houseguest, both will learn what it takes to finally grow up (THR).

The premise sounds very strange at first, but already sounds to be rather fuuny at the same time if that makes any sense. The film is being produced by John Cohen and Christopher Meledandri with Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures on top of the picture. The script is penned by Brian Lynch, Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio with Tim Hill (Alvin and the Chipmunks) directing. The hybrid feature is set to jump out into theaters on April 1rst, 2011.

Mitchell sets up a Monster Squad

Mike Mitchell, better known for his directing work in films like “Sky High” and “Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo”, is being tapped to direct “Monster Squad”. The Warner Bros Pictures feature was originally picked up as a spec by Brian Lynch in 2000 called “Nightcrawlers”. Ever since then, the project in question has gone through many screen writers but settled on “Wild Hogs” scribe Brad Copeland.

The project’s title was changed to “Monster Squad,” though it is not a remake of the 1987 Warners movie written by Shane Black (THR). Copeland is also attached to the remake of the 1986 film “Flight of the Navigator”. No word yet on when Warner Bros wants this film released, but there is speculation they want to start filming during summer of 2010.
