A new Bonnie and Clyde film in the works

A new version of the classic rebels, Bonnie and Clyde, is in the works. Neil Burger (Limitless) is looking at directing Go Down Together, based on Jeff Guinn’s best-selling novel.

Bestselling author Jeff Guinn combines exhaustive research with surprising, newly discovered material to tell the real tale of two kids from a filthy Dallas slum who fell in love and then willingly traded their lives for a brief interlude of excitement and, more important, fame. Go Down Together has it all—true romance, rebellion against authority, bullets flying, cars crashing, and, in the end, a dramatic death at the hands of a celebrity lawman.

This is the real story of Bonnie and Clyde and their troubled times, delivered with cinematic sweep by a masterful storyteller.

Up in the Air‘s screenwriter Sheldon Turner is writing it. Go Down Together could be Burger’s follow-up to Uncharted, which he is in pre-production now on.

First off, there is a remake that’s already in the middle of pre-production of Bonnie and Clyde called The Story of Bonnie and Clyde. Sure, it’s absolutely harmless, since there’s a fine number of remakes out there in Hollywood nowadays. The thing that makes it instantly cringe-worthy is the casting process which already deems pretty boy Kevin Zegers and not-so-great Hilary Duff in the two main roles. The casting continues as JoBlo announces the newest arrivals acting wise with Thora Birch, Rance Howard, Richard Tyson, Taryn Manning, Cloris Leachman and Natalie Canerday.

The impending remake is being written and directed by Tonya S. Holly. The feature is set to come out sometime in 2010, but since there is no definite word on when they will start initial filming, we can only guess. It would be awful pessimistic to guess whether or not this film will succeed at all, but that’s the part of myself at the moment I cannot help.
