However, Deadline is hearing that development on Tron 3 is underway. Apparantly, Joseph Kosinski is reteaming with Screenwriters Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz to work on the film. However, it seems that Disney won’t be backing the film. Nothing else is known about the film, but we have been given a couple of hints about the direction of the sequel (here, here, and here).

Meanwhile, you can check out Tron: Legacy on DVD and Blu-ray now.

This certainly changes things, do they hope that having it be more Indiana Jones style appeal to a larger audience?

Nearly three decades after the original film, Tron: Legacy will finally be hitting theaters this Friday. Nobody really knows how the film will perform at the box-office, and the film has already been receiving mixed reviews from critics. Despite that uncertainty, screenwriters Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz have already mentioned that plans for Tron 3 are underway (here), and What’s Playing seems to have gotten hold of some plot details on the next installment.

They first mention that screenwriters Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz have not yet finished the script, and are just creating ideas for another sequel. One character that won’t be featured in Tron: Legacy will be Yori and Laura (Cindy Morgan) because Kitis and Horowitz see this film as Flynn’s story, and don’t want to just give them a small cameo as background characters. Instead, Morgan’s character will be “saved for a later film where they’d potentially have something to do“. There’s reportedly about several different stories created just for the character of Laura. Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges) isn’t likely to return, but that’s uncertain at this point. Cillain Murphy (Batman Begins, Inception) will cameo in Tron: Legacy, and is on-board for Tron 3.

Of course, these are just ideas at this point, and it’s uncertain if another film will get made. If the film is a success at the box-office, then Kitsis and Horowitz could possibly use some of this ideas for the next sequel. Although, the film is sitting on a $200 million budget, and the film will need to make a lot to be a success. A recent screen-test of the film is getting the studio worried as the film is tracking quite well, but not as well as hoped.

The film is already looking to be a success given the huge fan-base of the original film, and the visually amazing trailers that may capture new fans. Those attached to the project seem to be confident in the film’s success with a sequel already being developed.

Producer Steven Lisberger spoke with Screen Rant and mentioned that development on Tron 3 is already underway. “We’re working on the development of it, we’re playing with storylines. It’s officially in development, but we don’t have a script [yet],”he said. The film is only in the early stages, but Adam Horowitz and Eddie Kitsi (Tron: Legacy) are working on the script now.

Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis, writers of the hit ABC television show Lost, are already putting together the script so production could start up as soon as possible. Now the one thing that Walt Disney Pictures really needs is a sure fire hit with Joseph Kosinski’s Tron Legacy.

No deals have been made with “Legacy” director Joseph Kosinski or cast members to return, though options were placed in the original deals, and Disney surely would hope to reunite all the elements if “Legacy” proves to be a hit, says the Heat Vision Blog. Tron Legacy stars Garrett Hedlund Sam, the son of Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges), who looks into his father’s disappearance and finds himself pulled into the same world of fierce Programs and gladiatorial games where his father has been living for 25 years. Along with Kevin’s loyal confidante (Olivia Wilde), father and son embark on a life-and-death journey across a visually-stunning cyber universe that has become far more advanced and exceedingly dangerous.

Tron Legacy will be released in theaters and in IMAX 3D on December 17th.

Universal Pictures is finally chugging along with their new board game property with Michael Bay’s Plantinum Dunes attached. Bay will produce along with Andrew Form, Brian Goldner, Bennett Schnier and Brad Fuller (THR). Plantinum Dunes is currently under the remake of “A Nightmare on Elm Street” and the sequel to the remake of “Friday the 13th”.

The ouija board has always been under much scrutiny over how the game works. With the possibility of the game actually bringing spirits out to communicate with the living, the film could be along the lines of an adventure to a suspense thriller, depending on which way the studios want to go.
