Now this feature is jumping into the pit of 3-D as MTV Movies Blog (via Arrow in the Head) squeezes a little bit of the plans swimming around producer Joel Silver’s noggin.:

“I’d like to make ‘Logan’s Run’ [in 3-D],” he said. “It’s a movie I’ve always been intrigued with, excited by. We’re writing a script now and that should be a big 3-D movie and it should be devised and shot in 3-D. I think if we can pull it together, then it would be.”

The remake, based off the 1976 science fiction film, recently wrangled up Carl Rinsch to direct. Rinsch has his hands full, because not only is he attached to Logan’s Run but is poised to take on Creature from the Black Lagoon and 47 Ronin. Still no word as to who will be writing up a script for this production.

Silver recently produced The Book of Eli and the comic book adapted film The Losers. He’s attached to several other films currently in production, including Unknown White Male, Project X and The Apparition.

Do you think that Logan’s Run could work in 3D? Or are you one of those who’s sick and tired of every other film getting the green light to go into the third dimension?

That’s right, it’s time to pull out the remake bin, and what do we find here? Why it’s the 1976 film Logan’s Run, based off the same-named novel by George Clayton Johnson and William F. Nolan. The whole take on a dystopian future, stopping overpopulation and the overall science fiction lure of it all definitely caught Hollywood’s eye, warranting a movie that gained mixed reviews. Though loved by quite a few, it was only a matter of time before it got thrown into the great remake stack that’s around today.

Warner Bros has been trying to get a remake of Logan’s Run off the ground for awhile. They may be in luck with the arrival of Carl Rinsch, director of upcoming features such as Creature from the Black Lagoon and 47 Ronin.

The original Logan’s Run film stars Michael York and Farrah Fawcett. The premise sees a future society that demands the death of everyone upon reaching a certain age. Anyone who veers from that destiny is dubbed a “runner” and is hunted by operatives known as Sandmen. Logan is a Sandman who is forced to go on the run (Heat Vision Blog).

Since this is nothing but talks at the moment, we’ll just have to wait and see if this finally gets off the ground. If not, then you can just add more months to the film seemingly stuck in development hell since the mid nineties.

Would you like to see a remake of Logan’s Run? Have you ever seen the film, and if so do you want them to not even bother?

If he end completely latches on, then he’ll be directing Keanu Reeves who stars in the Morgan Creek Productions picture. Passengers is set in the future on a spacecraft making a centuries-long interstellar voyage to a new planet. Due to a computer glitch, a single passenger (Reeves) awakens from cryogenic sleep 90 years before anyone else. Faced with the prospect of growing old and dying alone, he, in turn, awakens a beautiful woman (Variety). The script is penned by Jon Spaihts.

Producing the picture is James G. Robinson under Morgan Creek Productions. Filming is expected to start up in the summer with a more than likely 2011 release date that has yet to be confirmed. Muccino’s previous works that some might have seen include The Pursuit of Happyness and Seven Pounds. Reeves can next be seen in 47 Ronin and is in the middle of development of the popular Japanese comic book adaptation of Cowboy Bebop in which he stars as Spike.

Ross’ previous scripts include The Tale of Desperaux and Pleasantville. Rinsch will also be helming the new picture 47 Ronin. One of the unfortunate parts is that this particular project has been up and down so much that actor Breck Eisner has jumped off ship. Eisner was originally supposed to play the Creature but now has moved onto greener acting pastures.

The other unfortunate part is that even though Ross penned the script Universal Pictures is looking at possibly re-doing the entire thing. Is it that bad? Will this end up in development hell? Only time will tell for this one.

This feature, under Universal Pictures, tells the story of a band of samurai swordsmen who avenge the death of their master in 18th century Japan (Variety). The film will be produced by Pam Abdy and Scott Stuber under Stuber Pictures with Chris Morgan penning the script. Morgan’s previous written work includes Fast and Furious, the fourth film to the illegal race car driving franchise.

Rinsch, believe it or not, was previously in talks to direct the prequel to the Ridley Scott film Alien for awhile. No word yet on when exactly this particular picture is going to start up production.
