It’s that time of year again, the Oscars are creeping upon us! The nominations for the best in film for 2010 are in, place your bets for who will walk away with the statue! Did your picks get a nomination? Which films got snubbed?

The broadcast for the Academy Awards will air Sunday night on February 27th.

Nominations were announced on January 25th at 8:30am est.

Caplan clocks in for 127 Hours

Collider gets the latest from Hot Tub Time Machine actress Lizzy Caplan on any other feature films that she is latching onto as of recent, and boy did they get a nice new bit of information. It just so happens that the actress is attached to the new Danny Boyle directed feature 127 Hours, but the most interesting part is what exactly her role is.:

I play Franco’s sister and most of the movie is James Franco stuck in a cave, but he has hallucinations, so there are other characters besides himself. And a boulder.

Since the feature does take place on a mountain, it’s kind of no surprise that she’d be nothing more than a figment of the climber’s imagination. The story is based on true events of a mountain climber (played by James Franco) who becomes trapped under a boulder while canyoneering alone near Moab, Utah and resorts to desperate measures in order to survive.

Already included in the cast is Amber Tamblyn and Kate Mara with John Smithson and Chirstian Colson producing. Principal photography is already underway for the production that is expected to be released sometime presumably either at the end of 2010 or the start of 2011 under Fox Searchlight Pictures.

Mara could be plugging in 127 Hours

Kate Mara, one of the actors in Happythankyoumoreplease, is jumping from the independent circuit to possibly Danny Boyle’s latest feature 127 Hours. If casted, she will be joining up along with James Franco and Amber Tamblyn in the film based on a true story. The story is of a mountain climber trapped under a boulder in Utah and his desperate efforts to escape. Mara and Tamblyn play hikers he meets before his ordeal (THR).

The feature is being produced by Christian Colson with Pathe, Cloud Eight Films and Darlow Smithson Productions on it. You can see Mara in this summer’s Iron Man 2 and in the action/adventure feature Ironclad.

Featherston tries to go 127 Hours

Katie Featherston is best known for being one of two main characters in this past year’s biggest sleeper hit Paranormal Activity. Now she’s taking full advantage of the recent success by auditioning for the role in Danny Boyle’s latest directorial effort in 127 Hours. Thanks to the magical world of the online Twitter universe, here’s what she said (The Film Stage).:

If cast, she would join up along with James Franco who’s set to play the lead. 127 Hours revolves around a mountain climber becomes trapped under a boulder while canyoneering alone near Moab, Utah and resorts to desperate measures in order to survive. The script is penned by both Boyle and Simon Beaufoy and is being produced by Christian Colson. No word on when the Fox Searchlight Pictures feature is supposed to be set for release, but if Boyle is in the middle of the casting process there’s a high chance that filming can commence by the fall of this year.

Franco clocking into 127 Hours

James Franco has reported to have been signed up to star in the upcoming Danny Boyle directed feature entitled 127 Hours. Franco will be taking on the role of mountaineer Aron Ralston in the feature. The story is centered on the mountaineer’s struggle to do what he loves the most despite a disability in 2003 that forces him to loose a limb due to a freak accident. Here’s the official statement through Twitter from Production Weekly.:

James Franco will play mountaineer Aron Ralston in Danny Boyle’s “127 Hours,” filming begins early March in Utah.

Franco can next be seen in several films including the Steve Carrell and Tina Fey movie Date Night and the fantasy comedy Your Highness.

Danny Boyle has 127 Hours

Danny Boyle teams up with Fox Searchlight Pictures for his newest project entitled “127 Hours”. The feature is being penned by Simon Beaufoy from a treatment that Boyle himself has written. The story revolves around mountaineer Aron Ralson. Ralston’s right forearm got pinned for nearly five days under a boulder during a climb in Utah in May 2003. He used a dull knife to amputate the limb, then scaled a 65-foot sheer wall and hiked out before running into a family that gave him water and food. He was finally rescued by helicopter (Variety).

The film will also be under Pathe with Christian Colson producing. This will not have been the first time Fox teamed up with Boyle, having it happen in several instances including with the Academy Award winning film “Slumdog Millionaire”. No word yet on who will play Ralston, but filming will begin early next year.
