Macon Blair’s Halloween Watch List
Macon Blair, from the awesome flick Murder Party was nice enough to share his Halloween watch list with us and it’s a pretty solid list. So check it out and comment below! Also, if you still haven’t seen Murder Party, do so as soon as you can.
The classic Universal monster movies: Frankenstein, Dracula, and The Wolf Man.
My earliest Halloween memories are of coming home from trick r’ treating and watching these on Channel 20 with my Dad and little brothers while we sorted through the candy. They played every year. They imprinted on our little brains. Why in the hell were there armadillos in Castle Dracula? I do not know but, boy, it freaked me out on a very primal level. Misty graveyards and swamps, weird old gypsy women, ruined castles and torch-bearing mobs and lightning…to this day I can’t get enough of that kind of thing. And these were the movies that first got me interested in filmmaking, too. I’d go to the library and check out these cheap kids’ books like ‘Monster Makeup!’: Did you know they used cheesecloth to make Frankenstein’s head flat?! Did you know they glued ox hairs onto Lon Chaney Jr.’s face one by one to make him the Wolf Man?! You can imagine how amazing this kind of thing was to a five year old.

Bonus Bride of Frankenstein Drinking Game: take a shot every time someone exclaims “Dr. Pretorious!” and proceed directly to the ER.

Ahhh, the classics. Nice list!
