iCarly Season 1 Volume 2 – DVD Review
I love television. As long as I can remember I’ve always loved watching my favorite shows on the boob tube, and now that I have kids of my own I enjoy watching their favorites with them. Also, since I have a boy and a girl it’s difficult to find content that they both enjoy, but iCarly is a show that they both agree on. So needless to say, as soon as the iCarly Season 1 Volume 2 disc appeared in the mail box my kids were ready to watch it, and because they usually can’t watch many of the films I review, I was pretty stoked about popping it into the DVD player. Â
From the very first episode on the disc to the very last there was once constant. My children don’t move, talk, or argue with one another while watching the DVD. It puts them into some sort of iCarly trance. They are captivated by the events that unfold in front of them. Speaking of events, let me provide a rundown of the show’s basic premise for those of you that my not have seen it. Carly Shay (Miranda Cosgrove) and her two best friends Freddie (Nathan Kress) and Sam (Jennette CcCurdy) host a web show called iCarly. They also spend a lot of time getting themselves into strange predicaments. Also, Carly’s brother Spencer (Jerry Trainor) is usually around to help guide the three tweens into the right direction. Â
The chemistry between Carly and Sam is undeniable, and Freddie’s nerdy persona only serves to enhance that chemistry. Carly is the show’s lead and obviously the role model for parents to feel comfortable with as well. While Sam is sort of an antihero who’s always getting into trouble and doesn’t do her homework. Balance all of this out with Freddie’s good boy charm and Spencer’s surprising moral sensibilities, and what you come up with is a strong children’s television show. My favorite episodes were. iPromote Tech-Foots, iFence, and iHave a Love Sick Teacher. Overall I was surprised by how watchable this show is. If your a parent looking for something that you can watch with your children, then look no further than iCarly because it is a killer series. Â
The Disc
Behind-the-Scenes Extras: A cool behind the scenes feature that shows off the talent these kids have. I enjoyed this feature and my kids loved it as well. Â
Behind the Slime with the Cast of iCarly: I didn’t love this feature, but my kids really dug it. Â
Special Bonus: Pilot Episode of True jackson VP: I didn’t particularly enjoy this pilot, but my son really enjoyed it. Maybe after a few episodes I might be able to get into it, but either way this is a pretty cool feature.

I don’t know. I’m able to enjoy movies and shows that are aimed at kids, but I’m not really a fan of iCarly. Too bad that it lacks the inspired lunacy of ‘Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide’ or the great chemistry between the leads that ‘Drake & Josh’ had. Although it is undeniable that it is MUCH better than any of Disney Channel’s or Cartoon Network’s live action shows! Sometimes I think that Nickelodeon is at least still trying to not give the kids any crap.
BTW, if you own a codefree player, you should get the ‘Kim Possible’ Boxsets that came out in Germany (and for any reason nowhere else so far). Season 1 & 2 are already out and Season 3 is rumored to be released this summer. It’s seriously a great show, enjoyable for all ages. (And the DVDs also contain the original english sound, so language won’t be a problem.)
My son loves Kim Possible. I’ll have to check that out.
Also in iCarly’s corner is the fact that TrueChild gave them an A for how they deal with stereotypes and portray interaction between people. http://tr.im/TrueChild
